Why do so many people hate Naruto?

Wasted potential. In the beginning, it actually seemed to be about Ninja; their stories, their growth, their training, their clans, and other things that made it a little unique. It then slowly morphed into random magic people holding kunai. For instance, the dramatic climax of the first season? Two gigantic monsters battling and the spirit of death ripping someone's heart out. Not exactly what I wanted to watch.
Wow, I never had looked at it from that point of view. I mean I still like the show, but you have a good point.

Ok, I've been noticing lately that people are bringing up Naruto alot. What exactly is the big deal?
Number 1: the bastardised the idea of 'Ninjas' - I mean seriously, the main character wears a bright orange jump suit (in a forest) and commences sneak attacks by shouting really loudly. Yeah, that's a great school of ninja-ness he subscribes to. Which brings us neatly to

Number 2: the fight scenes. I know that anime have a reputation for long, protracted fight scenes, but Naruto goes too far. There was one battle between some random badguy ninja and the guy with one funky eye that went on for three episodes - and it wasn't even a major dude, just fucking filler fight. It was all 'oooh, long stares' and 'gasp! A movement' then 'hah, I got you!' followed inevitably by an endless cycle of 'hah - fooled you! Take this slow, telegraphed attack!'. GAH! I've seen enough of other, GOOD animes to know how slickly an anime fight scene can take place - Ghost in the Shell, Avatar, Elfen Lied, and I'm sure there's plenty others that DON'T need to spend all episode making what should be the most exciting part of the show boring.

Numer 3: Naruto. He's a douche. Maybe he gets better later, but I watched far more of that show that I'd care to admit and nothing changed. Just the stereotypical self-obsessed prat who never seemed to get finished off by the powerful (but mentally damaged) opponents he kept coming up against. Plus the girl couldn't even begin to hold her own - sure, the chick in Bleach is even worse, but again I'll point to Avatar to show how a major female character should be done in this sort of show.

My opinion of the show is that it's the lowest-brow, most juvenile anime in the public eye and with so much better material out there it doesn't deserve the popularity and endurance that it has garnered. Bleach I enjoyed more, but it lost its way around the late 170-80 episode mark (well, IIRC...), and that's in the same sort of popular genre, just with occasionally more depth and consistently better choreographed action.

I don't like it because of how many people telling me it was the best thing ever. It was okay, but there was much better stuff to be watching.

since the manga is still going on, the anime tends to drag on for long peroids of time, the fans are torture to be around, the whole series is over-rated and not even that great an anime, and the 4kids dub is extreamly annoying
BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!

I believe the better question is why does everyone hate one piece? Which in my opinion is one of the best ongoing series definetly better than naruto and bleach. I blame 4kids
I actual have a question about one piece. Where are they? Last time I checked they were on Zombie Island or something.

I can summarize this argument (and any similar argument pertaining to a common anime or anime character) in two words: MARY SUE.
If you don't know the definition, you need to look it up, because damn it, it applies to situations like these perfectly.

I'm not sure why it's so hated either. It doesnt even have as much filler as a lot of people think. At least half of what some people call "filler" in naruto is just episodes where they focused on the plot instead of having a great big ninja fight. Maybe they just don't like the character naruto? idk.
Filler is episodes that don't follow the original Manga storyline (ie. invented stories for the anime version only). Filler is 99% garbage, 1% is good. I won't sift through 99 episodes of trash for one gem.

For Bleach and Naruto, I only watch episodes that are cannon. And only subtitled.

Please note: I like other animes as well.
agreed on all points. i hate the dubs and the filler. ive been trying to get into bleach, but ive only made it like 6 episodes in. when does it get good?

btw, shippuden is a million times better than the original series. less filler, better fight scenes(imo) its just better.

(in case you were wondering, i love naruto, but have been trying to get really into something else.)

Pretty much this. Also, the filler isn't the main problem with the show. Filler can be skipped. However, you can't fix the exceedingly slow pacing of the show by fast forwarding. Not to mention the painful use of flashbacks. Even early on they already start having flashbacks about this that happened less than 10 minutes ago.

The Shounen Three all pale in comparison to a lot of the good anime out there anyway. Think of them as the summer blockbusters that attract the main crowds, while there's still things out of there like Dr. Strangelove or The Shawhank Redemption. Or if you prefer action, Die Hard. nothing beats good old Lain, Haibane Renmei, Escaflowne or even Hajime no Ippo.

Same reason anything that gets popular gets so much hate:
a) fanbase & people's reactions
b) trolls
c) overhyped

Personally, I don't really get all the hate for these series. I've read a fair amount of Naruto and watched all of Bleach that's currently out. Neither are stunning, they're both decent in their own right and I enjoy watching/reading each of them, they're good series. Not great, not terrible, but good. I haven't seen/read any One Piece as it doesn't particularly appeal to me, but I'd imagine it's the same sort of scenario. Now, obviously people will have favourites and there'll be preferences, but generally I think they're all (probably, for One Piece) good series in their own rights. There are better things out there, but there are far worse too.

But, if something gets popular people will hate it. It's not just Naruto, Bleach & One Piece, take Haruhi, Lucky Star, Death Note, Code Geass, DragonBall. I can guarantee if something's popular some people will hate it unnecessarily.. They may hate it because so many people like it when they don't think it deserves it, they may hate it because people keep going on about it and they're sick of it, or they may hate it just because they can.

The FANS are why I hate it. Naruto itself is mediocre, but the FANS treat it like some sort of God-send that everything else, even things that came before it, must be held up to. There are people who think that there are spells to make Naruto real, there are people who think Looney Toons are horrible because the characters do not have powers like the characters from Naruto, and they wear those EMBARRASSING head-bands everywhere. I would now, one of my friends is a Narutard. His first thought whenever a ninja is brought up is Naruto.

NARUTO IS A CANCER. It makes me ashamed to be in the same age bracket as the target audience.

characters are annoying. I found both dubbed version characters and original characters equally annoying.
and I really can't like any anime that are longer than 5200 episodes
though there might be some anime that are long and still be good, but I'll be keeping my cynicism at full alert

A waste of numerous characters with enormous developmental potential in favor of a select few overpowered morons, assholes, and villains-of-the-story-arc. In short, largely the same problem I have with Dragonball Z.

Note that I like both of these series. These are just the gripes I have with both, and the reason I vastly prefer Naruto fanfiction to the canon material.

Stick with Bleach until the end of the Soul Society Arc.
You won't be disappointed.

After that, it's touch and go.
will do. thanks.

as a response to some of the people who think the characters are annoying: naruto can be, sauske is kind of an emo douche, sakura is a crybaby, when you think about it, you guys are right. but i personally really enjoy the universe those characters are in.
