Why do so many people hate Naruto?

The FANS are why I hate it. Naruto itself is mediocre, but the FANS treat it like some sort of God-send that everything else, even things that came before it, must be held up to. There are people who think that there are spells to make Naruto real, there are people who think Looney Toons are horrible because the characters do not have powers like the characters from Naruto, and they wear those EMBARRASSING head-bands everywhere. I would now, one of my friends is a Narutard. His first thought whenever a ninja is brought up is Naruto.

NARUTO IS A CANCER. It makes me ashamed to be in the same age bracket as the target audience.
Hating something because of its community is illogical. Also, your words hurt me. It almost feels as though you're insulting me.

Now, onto why I think most people hate Naruto. They don't give it a chance. They see the first episode and dismiss it as completely run of the mill shonen jump material, which I'll admit, it pretty much is (but that don't mean it isn't damn good).

I've been reading Naruto (and occasionally watching the anime, if it adapts a particularly good bit of story), and I think the reason I love it so much is its extremely interesting cast of characters.

You cannot go through the series without finding at least 3 characters you like. Kishimoto has a serious hard-on for going in depth into his characters, man, even if he's never going to use them again, (a bit of a habit that occurs a bit too much for my taste. At least he balances it out with the constant creation of newer characters).

Take Naruto himself. He seems like a rather obnoxious brat, but from the very first episode, they explain why. Having to constantly live in amongst those who ostracize him as a monster made him an obnoxious brat. Becoming a ninja, having those adventures and experiences, and most important companionship with his fellow ninja, matured him as a character. The current Naruto is an almost completely different character than the annoying little kid, rather a respected, charismatic young man revered as a hero amongst his village yet still morally conflicted over how to act on a former comrade turned maniacally evil.

Character development yo.

I can give a few reasons.

1. Over hyped.
2. Filler episodes.
3. Manga to anime transition.

Some of it's fans are very much like some of bleach's fans, in the regard that they try to convince you it's the greatest thing ever. While I did like the first few episodes that I did watch, it didn't last. :x
I think I'd have to agree with this.

Filler episodes and the translation are the biggest issues for me. I can understand a filler episode here and there but they practically had a hundred in a row. If the storyline doesn't progress at all the show can get boring. And that isn't just an issue with the filler. When they do have actual episodes they drag them on for so long, over an entire episode there might be only a slight change in circumstances. Seriously there was one episode where all that happened was Sakura crying a bit.

I still read the manga because I want to see how it finishes but there are much better shows out there.

Because it's standardized as the BESHT FAWKING AENIMEH EVURZ, when we all know it's Cowboy Bebop.

Well, at least for me.

I can almost guarantee you %60-75 of them have no idea what happened after the first series.

Once Shippuden started, things got ALOT more interesting.

Too bad barely any of them made it past that final Naruto Vs Sasuke fight in the original series.

As you can see through reading this thread, no one thinks Naruto is the "BESHT FAWKING AENIMEH EVURZ".

I'll admit it's relatively popular, but that's to be expected with this kind of show. It has a demographic, you know. Young boys 6 to 16, especially in Japan, love it to bits. It's a very, very big demographic.

I watched it and Bleach and liked both of them for a while, then I stopped for whatever reason. I don't hate them, it's just that I never went back to them. My preferences also changed somewhere along the line too. Shonen shows just don't appeal to me much anymore.

I probably could catch up on the massive number of episodes that I've missed if I wanted to and enjoy them. It's just that I'd rather watch something else now.

Ok, I've been noticing lately that people are bringing up Naruto alot. What exactly is the big deal? "Naruto has OVER 100 EPISODES OF FILLER!" Yes, I may be a fan of Naruto, but I HATE filler, but you could skip that. The Naruto website uploads a few episodes every week. Or better yet read the manga online on youtube. " Believe it, nuff said." Yes that was the most annoying thing ever, but I can't remember a time he last said it. Since he met Tsunade? That was four years ago. Voice your opinion here and I will try to answer your complaints. Thank you.
I dont hate it, I read the manga on the internet, its good but in comparision to the epic One Piece, its mind as well be a puddle in the road.

It's not that people hate Naruto itself. They hate the fanbase it's generated. When I'm in Borders and get a copy of Genshiken, One Piece or Soul Eater slapped out of my hands and I'm told to "read Naruto because it's better," then I rage.

Yes, this has happened. Three separate occasions. I'm always thanked for driving this same group from the store.
Try reading Mahou Sensei Negima, I'd love to see their reactions.

You forgot one thing. The premise.
Ninja in an orange jumpsuit who NEVER STOPS SHOUTING wants to be the best ninja ever.

Unlikeable, one dimensional characters
constant explanation of everything they do (it breaks up the action)
uninteresting villains
even the episodes that aren't filler still pad things (manga pads it out as well)
stupid story
retarded jokes
sasuke

EDIT: boring action sequences, too.

Somewhat off-topic, but I liked Yu Yu Hakusho a lot when I was at the height of my anime/manga interest (it's quite low now). My roommate and I have begun re-watching it for the sake of doing so. I love it still. A lot of the issues that people have with Naruto (characters just grow stronger for story, loud-mouth main character, etc.) seem present, but it doesn't bother me at all. Naruto does bother me for those very reasons, though there is also a hell of a lot less in the way of interesting main characters. Anyone else, especially those who dislike Naruto, like Hakusho? How come?

Unfortunately they were all still in school when I was at Borders skimming Negima.
