Because they've never actually been to a civilized part of the United States and base all their "knowledge" on stereotypes?

Pretty much this.
I can't believe Mr Montmorency got put on probation for that post. He was simply posting his opinion (admittedly with some unnesessary language) and a lot of points, which in my opinion were correct.

I had no reason to hate the Americans until today! Americans put a huge spoiler for the new series of Dexter in a live news feed on Facebook. When us Brits complained the Americans on the site laughed at us, stated we weren't true fans and posted more spoilers!

I know that it's a very very minor thing but it has got my goat, that and the fact that American culture has infected every section of British life and language. It's like a bloody virus!

Simple: stereotyping, pigeon-holing, gross overexaggeration, gross overgeneralization, ignorance, and overall douchebaggery.
In other words: Fanboyism.

Welcome to the joy of being human.

If a three year old douch bag from america hears some one with an accent on xbox live, due to aninimity of the internet, they will usually decide to make fun of them and say that America is better, thus part of the problem.

I don't actually hate America (it is where i live after all), i just get tired of all the rednecks we have who claim to be patriots yet try to deny a constitutional right to something like freedom of religion. If these guys went away i would be so happy.

I like america,
I dislike all you idiots who instantly say they hate america because we are all fat sacks of shit. Now for people from other nations, then I disagree with their opinion. But for american citizens who spam their hate. Then I hate those opinions, they believe that they are clever for saying that and talking about the country there in.

It's just horrible taking part in the liberty's then bashing the place they come from
There are problems in america but instead of flashing your "Scandalous" view points, stop what you are so angry about.

First of all i will add a disclaimer. No one hates america. They say they do but they dont. What they do hate is a small but verbal minority of annoying americans who they think comprise the whole country. You cant hate a whole nation, every country has good and bad parts. However i personally dont really like america. Its ok, its a nice country but some facts stop me from wanting to live there or loving it as a place.

Ok il start from the very begginning. Your country of freedom is founded on the massive hypocracy that is the native americans. Ask then about immigration. Second is slavery, here in england we abolished it very quickly, but in "the land of the free"?. Not so fast.

These are no longer valid reasons but build a picture of american hypocracy. A country built on blood and oppression and called freedom and liberty, its not so bad today, what happened happened, sins of the father and all but still. It just "sets the tone". A good government formed in a bloody military coup is hardly going to have a good image regardless of how good it is no?

Second of all is the arrogance. Honestly patriotism seems to be high in america and i personally dislike it. Its a single level below religious fanatic. America is like all the average parts of the modern world combined. Hell you dont even have healthcare and guns are available for everyone. The fact some people get religiously defencive when someone nay says america gives a generally poor image. America is an ok country. Its powerfull but not amazing. Education is below average for the modern world and crime is above.

You also tend to take what you want, america seems pretty hot headed in the media "we get what we want because i is america". Oil. I'll leave it at that. I dont support the war in afghanistan. Not the way it is now. Capitolism isnt the best way. Its just the least shit way. It doesnt make it perfect and it inspires greed. Greed sometimes payed in blood. I dont know shit about the war or its deep down causes in the mind of its instigators so i'll leave it out. I just dont like the way this war is going, and it seems led by america.

The fourth is your wrongness about two simple concepts. Freedom. And your idea that "the harder you work the more you earn" which while wonderfull in theory is unfortunately not always true in practice. Its sad, if it was always right it would be brilliant but it isnt. Now freedom. I'll just point out the general hatred for people who are different or different government forms (communism cough). I know its a minority but they are vocal.

The tyranny of the majority. 51% of americans are not well educated. But by your system they control the rest. In a country where the stupid control the smart peole will be cynical (im looking at you george bush)

Bottom line. America is a nice place, with nice values, but has a lot of subtle negative factors the largest of which is the very very very vocal group of idiots and hate mongers.

I don't hate the United States, I dislike its people. I'm xenophobic towards most Americans for personal reasons, one of which being whom I thought was a very good friend of mine played me for an idiot for half a decade.

In the grand scheme of things, America is still very young. Hell, we only acknowledged that African-Americans have rights sixty years ago. Culturally, economically and in nearly every other sense, we still have a long way to go... And our people reflect it. America leads the charge in some ways, but in others, it's so horrendously backwards that other countries can't help but hate us.

Also, it doesn't help that we just came out of 8 years of being run by criminals (well... worse criminals than usual, anyway). Say what you will about the man's legacy, there's one thing that can't be denied; George Bush did not help disprove the belief that all Americans are crazy, gun-happy, Bible thumping idiots.

I think it's because ignorant people from around the world like to generalize and form an opinion about Americans based solely on the worst possible examples they can find. Which sounds a lot like what the stereotypical American might do.

Plus, Canada's got you covered. I mean, come on, we're bigger, and we're on top!

Saying all Americans are fat/stupid/ignorant is like saying all Chinese people are shitty drivers, the English all have shitty food and terrible teeth, Canadians spend all their time eating beavers and playing hockey in an igloo, Russians are all alcoholics and communists hunting bears for a living. Any group is going to have honest, smart, hard-working people, and every group is going to have a few really, really gratuitously stupid assholes to fuck things up for everyone else.

because
1.they are fat
2.they are hippies
3.they are smug
4.they are dumb
5.they are insecure
6.they are easily offended
7.they have no sense of honor
8.they are lazy

well, thats what all the other people say. not too sure myself seeing how it is IMPOSSIBLE to say that 3 million people are exactly the same.
Lets see how I as an American match up to that list.
1. I'm not fat
2. Not a hippy
3. I'm pretty sure I'm not smug
4. I may not be the smartest but I do believe I beat the average person of my age
5. hmmm idk maybe?
6. I suppose in some ways i can be easily offended but Most of the time I don't think so
7. I would never break my word pertaining to anything serious as long as i have been showed equal respect. I follow my own code of honor that seems to work well enough
8. yes I am lazy
3/8 of your assumptions are correct

I can, but then I'm American.

Crime rates, prison overcrowding, education: all valid points.

"faggots": Interesting to use a derogatory term for gays to insult a country known for being less tolerant of gays

Government: I don't necessarily like our government structure, but then I dislike things about every country's. So I'd put ours as not much worse than others.

"they're": Sorry, I don't recall having anything to do with the economic implosion. Of course he immediately says "some stupid bankers," which is him admitting it makes no sense to generalize all Americans, even though he does.

Yeah, I'm mildly offended. Could've said the same thing without sweeping generalizations and offensive language.

Most everything the CIA has ever done, B.E.T., New Jersey, the dirty south, George W. Bush, Fox News, Iraq and Richard Nixon. Well, that about sums it up!

I'm joking about Jersey, BET and the South. Well, in most cases.

The USA doesn't have the best quality of life or the richest people per capita to envy, really. We aren't necessarily the most arrogant or the most of anything, but we get a lot of attention. Our country is just a massive influence on the rest of the world. When we make waves, the world sees it and there are always people who will disapprove. Thus the flak. Sometimes justified, sometimes not.

edit - It probably doesn't help to compare our crime and education and then consider the implications of our democracy. Many people outside the United States believe that crazy is majority rules. Especially without a well-informed, well-educated populace. And with our media and schools, well... could use some reform just in my opinion.
