I think its because vegetarians have the dicipline not to eat meat at all. I wish i had that dicipline because chicken is awesome.

Fortnuately I've never really encountered much flak from people about my vegetarianism except for when I first began, from one of my friends (though it didn't last long) a a couple of times with family members I didn't like to start off with; and when I do get cynical/snide comments about it, I don't hold back on my opinions of their meat-eating lifestyle.

Most people I have encountered are actually genuinely curious about it though which is nice, though I always get the question of 'Do you eat fish?'; no I do not eat fish! Fish = meat! People who say they're vegetarians but still eat fish are clearly morons who deserve to be eaten alive by fish!

Because when the world ends, you won't taste as good as a meat eater when we eat you (because you'll die first, either of starvation or being too weak to stop the meat eaters from killing you.)

My friend doesn't eat red meat, this is nothing to do with moral reasons or whatever he just doesn't like the taste. Of course I think he's crazy because bacon is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo tasty but I don't think he's stupid like I think a lot of vegetarians are.

Vegetarians who say "eating meat is cruel" are the type of vegetarian I hate. I call them "moral vegetarians". Although they wouldn't stop animals doing it they think because we're, sigh, "intelligent" we should know better.

I often say that because I'm intelligent I know that my dentition is ideally designed for me to be omniverous and that (what with my closed-rooted teeth, lack of diastema, canines and slightly serrated pre-mlars) I am in fact more adapted for carniverous eating than most animals. Further more a large amount of plant material consumed will be undigested due to my lack of a proper appendix. However, even with this appendix I would still have to treat my food like a rabbit. What's so bad about that? Well, they eat their shit.

But that doesn't always win them over so I will go on to say that the majority of animals eaten, whether we like it or not, are specifically for farming. They have been artificially selected to produce the best meat, eggs, milk or whatever and have lost their ability to survive on their own. They are therefore dependant on humans to allow them to live. This is not possible to maintain for free and so farming, where the animals get a chance at life to live a reasonably long life which is better (and in many cases longer) than the one they would face in the wild (well, proper farmers do). Furthermore the farmer can only provide this life to them by selling the meat or whatever. It is a win-win situation.

That's why "moral" vegetarians are stupid imo.

EDIT: It's been three pages and nobody has argued against me. Should I assume I win? I thought it'd be harder than that.

PeTA is biased, but they are a very extreme example of a minority.
don't pull the Pesticides card, because obviously i need to sustain life with some food.
AGAIN! let me repeat, it is NOT THE DEATH OF THE ANIMAL THAT I NECESSARILY FIND CRUEL, IT IS THE LIVING CONDITIONS!
So educate yourself on the concept of free range livestock and stop trying to present all livestock farmers as sadistic assholes.
When did I say they were sadistic assholes? your the prime example of someone who jumps to conclusions based on my personal beliefs. I do not agree with Murdering something for food when I dont have too, Free-range is much better, but there is a lot of proven deception where its not all sunshine and rainbows like they want us to believe, that being said there are a lot of legit Kosher meats that can be bought. I however do not want to eat it. The Living arrangements are the worst part to me, but I just don't enjoy eating Meat. there are many aspects to it. Don't try to paint me as this Human Hating animal Hugging scumbag. I care about humanity, I care about Animals, and I care about the enviroment. So don't act like I have the Agenda of Hatred.
That wasn't aimed at you exclusively, more at everyone who is saying they don't eat meat because of living conditions. To say that implies that all animals have bad conditions, this isn't so. Most farmers love their animals.

That's fine if you don't like eating meat, but the question this thread asks is why vegos in general get so much hate, this whole arguament is why. Someone reals of a false statistic, gets called on it becomes apparent eating meat doesn't mean more loss of life. Living conditions are brought up, and a less cruel alternative is shown. That's fine if you don't like meat, but stop trying to justify it with the moral highground.

It is no more moral to avoid meat than it is to eat it, and vegetarians get a lot of hate for trying to claim otherwise.

This is not a preach thread, its a discussion, read before you type. And trust me, im neither Emo or Goth. If your not under 16 and your still gathering people into convenient Pop Culture groups, your an idiot.

P.S I do not support PETA at all. they give vegetarians and Vegans a very bad and loud name.
You mentioned preaching before I did, go back and read your own posts before you type.

Likewise with the emo/goth comment, you must not have read it, I never said you were a goth or emo. If you were it would not be an issue. Its pop culture, not paedophilia. My point was that people go through phases as they grow up. You seem to have not read it properly at all, you missed what the post was saying and instead hung on to a few terms you seem to have issues with, none of which were offensive. If you think they were offensive then please, report and move on like an adult.

You mention the treatment of livestock in previous posts so I'll ask a question. Why are you not vegan?

It's sad, but you're only getting all that because of the vegetarians who are loud, obnoxious and preachy. Also because they're a little ignorant of your choice (like "How do you get protein then??" Idiots... Meat isn't the only protein food source in the world).
Well, its different types of protein than in meat, and the quantities are generally smaller based on regular portion sizes...
I mean, you can make a balanced vegetarian diet, its just that its a whole lot more difficult. Humans aren't herbivores by design.
I wouldn't know specifically since I'm not a vegetarian, but I just know that protein isn't restricted to meat.

Personally, I think that cutting out a whole category of natural food sources isn't really good; Variety is the key. There are foods from each group/category that contain nutrients not found in the others, so diversifying is best.
Best source of protein in the world is Falafel.

Also the argument that Humans aren't natural herbivores is under massive debate as were the only animals that have to cook our food to be able to eat it.
We don't HAVE to... it's just best. And, if we were natural herbivores, what the fuck did we invent fire and cooking for?

Well I personally don't understand vegetarianism but my sister is a vegetarian so I'm used to it. There's not anything wrong with people who are vegetarians I just don't agree with them and I like my meat. Bacon FTW.

I am Vegan, I just don't like to use the term vegan cause that inspires about 100x more flaming and hate.

EDIT******

I want to make this clear one more time.
I defend my beliefs on my vegetarianism (veganism)when challenged or Insulted.
But I personally do not think it is morally wrong to eat meat! I simply choose not to for a number of reasons, some involve empathy, some involve health.

I don't think I'd do well as a veggie person/vegan. Most vegetables make my gag reflex kick in good and hard. Corn, green beans, peas, broccoli. I can't chew them if I have to eat them; I have to swallow them whole to get them down. I've been working on that; it might be some childish thing I haven't gotten over. But the swallowing whole method is good for if I have to eat at someone's house and don't want to insult them. Can do lettuce, green onions, cabbage, radish shreds (salad stuffs). And carrots! Raw carrots are yummy, and alright cooked.

What's up with the milk thing though? That doesn't involve killing anything; how come vegans/vegetarians won't do dairy? I'm not terribly versed on this topic, mind you. I get why Peta people won't (How dare you use that cow's milk without it's permission to make that delicious mac n' cheese!). I mean, don't cows need to be milked? Their udders would get all swollen and painful if you didn't milk them. Is it just the modern milking methods are bad? That the milk should have been used to feed a baby cow instead of me?

I did cut a lot of milk out of my diet at one point when I was really cracking down on my cholesterol. But soy ice cream...really isn't much of a substitute.

Depends what kind of vegetarian a person is. Healthy eating/"I just don't like the taste" vegetarians, I can deal with.
Environmentalist preachers, on the other hand...

Well not to be preachy, but Milk cows are forced into being pregnant their whole lives, which can't be very comfortable. and by supporting dairy, you support the pregnancy which in turn supports the meat industry. But its all irrelevant, there is nothing wrong with enjoying a steak and a glass of milk, Its just not for me.

There is no hate here. There's nothing wrong with the ideology, its just not for me. It does tend to be a fad for a lot of people though. I know 2 people who are in their 30s and still vegi (ones actually vegan). I also know loads of people who were vegetarian and/or vegan for a while but gave it up for whatever reason. That was the only point I was trying to make. 3 years isn't that long.

Just make sure you take your supliments and you'll be fine. The diet lacks in vitamin B12, fatty acids, vitamin D and Iodine. Although its a bigger issue if you're breast feeding...

Thats why I believe we were are designed to be omniverous.

By the way: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=grill

Also, you have not saved 100 animals by not eating their meat. They were already dead when you ignored them in a store, someone else just ate them.

I could care less what a pessimist like Maddox has to say about anything, overblown rant pages aren't that funny, vegan or not.

Also a major decision to go vegetarian (at the time was just veggie) was health, i lost a solid 35lbs, gained muscle mass and feel great everyday now because of it. Becoming a vegetarian is an easy way to get healthy (assuming you balance your meals correctly) because it cuts out a lot of the possible fatty foods (red meats) and limits you to healthier alternatives. That being said ive seen some Huge vegetarians who live off pizza and fries.

I had a friend who got... Some stomach virus. I don't know what it was (I was 14, I didn't care :p), but it meant that he couldn't eat meat any more. This and "I don't like the taste" are the ONLY reasons I can understand for vegetarianism. "Moral" vegetarians have such a propensity for preaching and harassment that I feel the need to severely injure them when they start. I always let them fire first, though.

OOH! One of my mates is married to an ex-moral vegetarian who made our lives hell. It took 2 weeks of cooking bacon every morning to snap her out of it, but if eating bacon every few days is the price I pay for that, I pay it gladly :D She's a lovely human being now, getting into gaming and everything.

i was a vegetarian for two years but i missed salami.

and yes, that's what brought me back to the dark-side so to speak.

so therefore, i never give vegetarians beef. that's just silly.

oh lol, get it, beef. *shakes head* not funny.

That's why going veggie isn't good for your health persee. You could've lost that 35lbs and gained muscle mass with a diet that contained meat, I'm a living example (went from 96 to 83 kilograms). As you said, you can easily become a bluddering fatso on a veggie diet. It's all about balance and variation.
Also, what you say about animal cruelty (milk cows being forced to be pregnant, for example), is a bad case of generalisation. You're assuming that everyone who drinks milk and eats meat buys those products from animals raised in the the so called factory farms. Again, that's dead wrong. All your arguments become void when you talk with someone who buys organic animal products, or raises a couple of animals on his own and has it's own supply of eggs, milk and meat. The fact that someone eats animal products does not automatically correlate to that person supporting factory farming and thus pollution and animal cruelty. I am, again, a living example (I don't raise my own critters though).
