The sad thing is, it's credible. If that news broke tomorrow, I can't honestly say I would be completely surprised.NameIsRobertPaulson said:TNA is owned by the WWE. TNA is basically the WWE's farm system. They won't admit it until they have the giant TNA vs. WWE storyline at the end of this year, but it is true.Antitonic said:This topic assumes I hate pro-wrestling. This topic is wrong.
The only real concerns I have are:
1) There's not enough interesting new talent coming through. Every guy likes more or less identical to the next. Unless the next guy is a girl, in which case they all look generically "modelly", and it's time to visit the concession stand.
2) There's no real competition. WWE have the monopoly and are suitably complacent. TNA is WCW: the 2011 Edition and will take a LOT of effort to get to the same level. Every other company doesn't have enough exposure to be a viable alternative.
Other than that, I enjoy "Rasslin'". I have for years, and will probably continue to do so.
Magic Shows have a habit of doing the same thing, even though it's an open secret that it's not real either. So why do they do the show still portraying it as real? Because without suspension of disbelief and the audience at least pretending that it is real it just doesn't work.Ghostkai said:It's because it has a habit of portraying itself as a competitive sport.
A big part of sport is the competition. Working hard to win etc.
If people found out a football(soccer to you yanks) match was "scripted", there'd be outrage. Yet, Wrestling does it constantly. That just doesn't sit right with some people. Myself included.
With the competitive nature removed from any sport, it loses it's essence, it's thrill. It becomes boring.
Because of my first line. If they didn't put across that image, and if the more zealous fans didn't try to reinforce that notion so often, I think Wrestling would recieve less hate.SaneAmongInsane said:Magic Shows have a habit of doing the same thing, even though it's an open secret that it's not real either. Hell going a step further, the Harlem Globetrotters play a rigged game doing stupid things that wouldn't be allowed in an NBA court, why are they respected for their talents but wrestling isn't?
