If I had the money I would own all platforms and have an fantastic game room of greatness with a collection of all forms of gaming that can fit in it.
But, right now, I game mainly on my Xbox360. A couple years ago, when I would go over the house of the one friend that would always host the game nights, I would end up having to split screen with whoever drew the short straw. All three of my friends that were there owned 360's, so when I got the money, I purchased an 360 bundle that came with Halo 3 and Fable 2.
I actually had to coax GameStop into letting me get that bundle. The week before I had been in and saw the display for it and saw they had some, then when I came back the next week, it had been all taken down and I didn't see any. All I saw were bundles that had Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones. I asked one of the workers if they still had some of the other bundle. He was hesitant, and asked if I really wanted that bundle. I was of course very adamant when I said yes. He then went into the back and came out with one; he said that they had three left in the back, that they had left them back there because they wanted get the Kung Fu Panda bundles to sell. I was thinking, "Well yeah, only the kiddies with parents would buy that bundle, and at the time the 360 really wasn't a kid friendly system".
Now, why do I prefer it:
I consider it to have the best controller. Some people harp on it because it is too big or to heavy. The weight is perfect, it lets me know it is there and it will stay put if I make sudden movements or slips. I have really small hands, and I find that the controller fits perfectly in my hands, which seems like what would be the opposite of what one might think. Besides, I heard that the PS3 controllers are very similar to the PS2 controllers, and I found the PS2 controller very clunky; the button layout was messed up, especially with the analog sticks so close together, I found myself messing up in some games when using both analogs, because my thumbs would end up hitting each other. That is why I cringe when people say that the analogs on the 360 controller are all wrong and should be next to each other. The 360 layout makes the use of the D-pad easier, because reaching down with my left thumb feels more natural than reaching up like what would be on the PS3.
Also, I like the 360's achievement system the best, the achievements look more individualized for each game than the PS3's trophies. On a smaller note, I like the gamer card display for the the 360 best on forums, because it shows the last five games I played. And seeing 15000 something score to me, looks better than showing that I have close to 800 achievements.
When comparing it to PC gaming, it was just cheaper. Two years ago, I paid $440 for that 360 bundle with a 3 month live card. Before I decided on getting it, I looked at what I would have to pay to get a gaming PC that was powerful enough to keep up with the latest games coming out for at least four to five years(wanting to avoid the costly 3 separate upgrades I had to do with in a span of 4 years with my old PC. I found that I would have had to spend well over 1200 dollars to get the gaming PC I was looking for, and from what I have seen, it still looks like that is the case today, so until I can get a job and save up something like 1500 dollars, I won't be getting a gaming PC anytime soon.
I know 440 dollars won't buy me proper gaming computer today. My dad spent around that much 2 years ago to get me the PC I have now, and it can't even play games that came out in 2007, and it barely can play WoW. My dad told me he wasn't going to spend the extra 250 bucks to upgrade the graphics capability. Granted that 400 some price tag didn't include a monitor, since I already had one.
PC gaming and PC sales would do a whole lot better if it was made mandatory that the bottom of the barrel priced PCs came with the capability to run at least games that came out before it was made that year. PCs are not as cheap as people claim they are. Some of the specs and prices people throw up, are just plain unreal for the prices they say they paid, they have to be buying on some Voodoo PC black market.
