OT: Play Bad Company 2 and then you'll see why so many people hate MW2. Here's a list for you Horrible Matchmaking, Crap DLC, Lots of players using exploits, players who act like it's team deathmatch mode in domination mode, the kill streak rewards that give you bonuses that kill more people and thus gets rid of the whole skill and balance aspect, laggy online compared to COD4, crappy community, no dedicated servers on the PC version. I could go on but you get the point, not to say it's a bad game, but it's selling for all the wring reason's. Oh well, with so many people leaving Infinity Ward for EA I even willing to give the Modern Medal of Honour a chance.

Hahaha yeah, if you like being spawn camped by people with akimbo G18s or sniped with a M4, or my absolute favorite fucking part! Endure all the wonderful hackers and cheaters :D Yaaay! 9/10 is filled with cheaters. That just creates a haven for people who seek a challenge now isn't it
I love being spawn-camped or sniped with an M4.
Because spawn-camping happens all the time in that game (no, it doesn't) and sniping is unfair and makes the game unbalanced.
And I have encountered so many cheaters that I've lost count.
[/sarcasm]
Haha sarcasm? Getting a little defensive are we? Or just a prick? I had the unfortunate luck to play the game on PC for about 4 months. And holy shit. I've never seen so many glitches used, spawn camping, broken perk setups, the bullshit maps, killing people with overpowered weapons (Hello dual 1887, why yes kill me, I'm the mood for giving you a free cheap kill) and the wonderful community of cheaters. This was MY experiance. If you are lucky enough to avoid all this shit that occupies the multiplayer aspect, Then lucky you, I hope you never have to encounter it for as long as you are playing.

That said, I really hope someone skull fucks that game and send it flying out of this solar system. What a horrible horrible game.... Which makes me saaaadface. IW did create the masterpiece that is CoD 4 and the rest. So I don't understand how they could fuck it all up.

I feel I need to stress this for you, exclusively. THIS IS MY EXPERIANCE WITH THE GAME! NOT A UNIVERSAL TRUTH. There we go. Let's see if it clicks this time:) Happy hunting
I could refute the points you've made but it seems to me that you have no desire to keep this civil so I'd rather not go in-depth because the one, glaring weakness of your post is really easy to spot.

If you hated it so much, why play it for four months?
Because that kinda is a lot of time.
Also, it's funny that you should tell me that I don't understand the concept of opinions. You know, you, the guy who said: "Surely you can see CoD 6 for what it is?". The guy who said that if I enjoy MW2 online, then I must like "being spawn camped by people with akimbo G18s or sniped with a M4, or my absolute favorite fucking part! Endure all the wonderful hackers and cheaters".
Also, wasn't that sarcasm?

It's alright, I'm on my 4th prestige, but I must say, this game is made for camper noobs. Normally, I have a 3:1 K/D ratio, and I'm lucky when I get a 5-kill streak. This is using a standard assault class: M4, SPAS-12, Semetex, Scavenger, Hardliner, and Steady Aim.

One day I decided to try being a camper noob (Barrett Model 82, PP2000, Claymores, Scavenger, Hardliner, Steady Aim) in Favela. I got an AC-130, first try. I tried it again in Wasteland, got another AC-130, took out 14 people in 20 seconds, getting the game-winning kill. I haven't got an AC-130 the last 2 prestiges using an assault rifle and no-noob tactics.

Also, the amount of unbalanced shit, and the people who use them is crazy. So many unskilled idiots resort to using cheap weapons or tactics to get easy kills.

Add on top of that the shitty spawn system (you can actually spawn right in front of an enemy), and you have a VERY frustrating game. I have a love/hate relationship with this game, it's addicting and fun, but it needs serious patching.

While I am half joking it does seem that the above seems scarily accurate for a rather large amount of people on this site.
You seem quite right, I like modern warfare 2 although I haven't really played it much recently because I'm starting to get bored of it.

Honestly, at first I hated the multiplayer and then after prestiging I don't know I guess I sort of made piece with the game and I can't stop playing it now. (3rd Prestige)It is amazingly fun when you are doing well but frustrating with the amount of cheap, noobish ways of killing people. I'm looking at you noobtube.

I have a theory...

Positive feedback loops are a dangerous design tool. Most modern games (Mario Kart being an excellent example) even things out over a large skill set with Negative feedback loops. People who are wining and doing well start to find it very, very hard to continue pressing the advantage. In the very back, you get the best items, and have to dodge an occasional bannana, assuming no one else has hit it first. Towards the middle, the people farther back are getting better powerups to shoot at you. Near the front, there is a ton of more shells and such going after you. And in the ultimate example, if you're in the lead, you must fear the blue shell. This makes the game more casual, and more accessible, because everyone is always, "in the game", though questions of strategy suddenly fly out the window. MW2 is the opposite: get a few kills, get a nice kill streak. Kill streak brings more kill streaks. Your teammates do better, which means you do better, and get kill streaks. It all spirals in the opposite direction of Mario Kart. This can easily seem unbalanced and frustrating, particularly if you are married to the idea of traditional shooters. However, it undermines the spirit of the game: MW2 is about continuing with your momentum as far as possible, and trying to not have it end. And a single kill after your killstreak by a clever opposing player will reset all of your momentum. A nuke might seem cheap, but really, it is the result of a player doing an excellent job of preserving there momentum, and maximizing feedback loops. Its not bad, its a different that many more regular players will interpret as bad.

Of course also, its because MW2 got shafted on the PC port, Escapist has a lot of PC gamers, and its so popular it can't help but always be talked about.

Is it the horrible balance?
The "get instant killed by every cough" gameplay?
The amount of easily exploitable cheap tactics and the amount of camping?
The amount of 12 year olds in every, single, game?
A "win any game by getting enough kills" mechanic that the Nuke presents?
Why does MW2 get so much universal rage from this site?
you listed the reasons there yourself. if it only had one or two of those problems it could be forgiven, but since it has all of them then that just kills all the fun like Bobby Kotik in a studio.
oh and BTW you forgot the amount of Glitches/Hackers that suck fun out of anything.

It's cool to hate Gears of War? I really liked both the GoW games and the first Halo was amazing. JRPG's suck balls though.

I hate any game that they spend two years developing and all but about a month and a half was spent on multi-player (which is completely broken [unbalanced, broken, not doesn't work broken.])

Eh, I'm just tired of hearing about it. I'm really sick of realistic warfare games being the latest hot thing. I don't hate the game per se, I'll just be glad when they hype is over.

I used to like MW2. I can still play it now, and not have too much of a problem. I try to like it. But damn, it pushes me away, almost deliberately.

For the record, I have the 360 version (my condolences to the PC players. I know that version got screwed over)

I actually kinda liked the campaign. Not as good as CoD4 in some aspects, but I still think it did some things right. Not as realistic, but realism isn't what I'm all about, and it's not what games should be about (at least, not all the time)

The multiplayer has some pretty bad faults though. Its core is fine: it has good controls, most of the weapons are pretty good, the new perks were pretty nice, and I liked weapon customization. Up until that point, I find it to be a perfectly good, responsive twitch shooter.

It's the additions that are bad. Some of the equipment is really unpleasant (claymores can be downright gamebreaking, I've witnessed firsthand), they absolutely messed up the killstreak system, which I was only so fond of in the first game anyway. The whole chopper/gunship/nuke thing sounds great in paper, and is awesome if you get it, but if you take it objectively, ITS A TERRIBLE IDEA! If someone is able to get that many kills, why give them more killing ability? And the killstreaks are very much overpowered, especially that chopper gunner. Akimbo wasn't a terrible idea for some weapons, except for shotguns. That was a terrible idea.

A lot of these gameplay features could be tweaked and made to work, though I haven't heard of IW doing this before, and it looks like they won't get a chance now.

But I can live with bad gameplay decisions. Most games make some, at least.

What really pisses me off is the community. They are rude, racist, exploitive bastards. The last time I remember playing MW2, which was a while ago, was when this kid got angry at me for messing up his supply drop glitch. I literally exploded on him, and usually I don't talk much at all on games. Since then, I haven't been able to get over my disgust with the community, though this is hardly exclusive to MW2.

So, in review. I don't hate this game. I actually used to be very fond of it. I just can't stand it any more.

The single player was very good, and I can't fault it for it's entertainment value (although it was perhaps a little short). It's the multiplayer that IW screwed over to an unimaginable extent, especially for the PC community, for several key reasons:

1: Lack of dedicated servers for PC. I can't see why IW did it, and it restricted player limits by too much. The player limits most likely heavily influenced IWs decision to create problem 2.

2: Small, confined maps. This made snipers utterly, utterly useless (apart from sometimes camping doorways, but that shouldn't be a role) because the maximum map-dictated range you could kill someone at with a sniper rifle was short enough that an assault rifle could all too often do the job far quicker.

3: Horrible game imbalance. This is largely confined to shotguns (and the terrible kill streak system, but I wont go into that now), they broke the game because IW decided that being a shotgun wasn't enough and that they had to incinerate everyone within a 45 degree cone of fire like some kind of focused atomic bomb.

IW need to learn from DICE, badly (but please not the part about releasing games with lots of bugs).
