No hate from me, but he's kind of boring. When you start Dragon Age it's like "Hm, might this person be interesting? Oh no, it's just Alistair. Sorry, Alistair, thought for a second you were someone interesting."

I disagree with your viewpoint, but I suppose it makes sense.GruntOwner said:Amnestic said:Snippity snip, Loghain wasn't that badA valid argument were Loghain actually a good commander. But he was not. His sole military achievements were siding with Maric and becoming one of the 2 teryn's through virtue of friendship. He then proceeded to flat out deny the staus of a blight, cripple the morale of the nation with Cailan's death, risk an all out civil war, place a bounty on the head of the Grey Wardens and let his arrogance and bitterness stop Orlaisian reinforces from entering Fereldan. He even went so far as to say that the Landsmeet had no right to voice their opinion because they weren't veterans like him. When you're dealing with a fuedal system, you do not belittle the barony in a time of crisis.
When a man that incompetant, arrogant and hidebound is considered for a place within your brotherhood, your family, the man who has already killed your, to all intents and purposes, father, you have every right to complain. I would have liked a chance to say "Your sword, your shield, see you on the frontline" but you can hardly blame anyone for expecting foul play from him.
What's more, his position would have been seriously compromised, as in he'd be burned at the stake, once word got out that he had hired a blood mage to assassinate Eamon. A nation ruled by church as much as crown, and he hired a bloodmage to perform assassinations.
Spoiler blocked because I ended up ranting, but in short: Loghain was useless, Alistair had every right to put his vengeance before keeping him alive.
OT: Alistair was one of my favourite characters. I kept him in the group for tanking, but out of the party I think he was one of the best characters. Wynne's likable, but she has too much history to really expand on it all, so she's shallow (On a subject to subject basis).
Were he less of an ass, I'd agree, but there's only so much that you can do before you stop deserving a martyrdom. The plan was already for the Orlaisian to deal the final blow (Not entirely sure why, you'd think that his expertise would be required to perform the joining) with you and Alistair as a backup. Alistair dying with his vengeance quenched and in a manner fit for his only real family seems a far happier ending than "The ignorant masses treat this nut as a hero, you and your party are remembered for a righteous bugger all and the Wardens are still mistrusted". I'd also like to add "Agreeing to grant Howe the terynhood of Highevar once he came to power, even though Howe was responsible for some atrocious military blunders during the rebellion" to my "Loghain was a waste of biomass" argument.Amnestic said:I disagree with your viewpoint, but I suppose it makes sense.GruntOwner said:Amnestic said:Snippity snip, Loghain wasn't that badA valid argument were Loghain actually a good commander. In which case, Alistair should have settled for having his vengeance by either having Loghain die via the Joining or by dealing the final blow to the Archdemon.
Seriously, they're given a Get Out of Death Free card in the form of Loghain and Alistair goes ahead and kills him. I was tempted to make Alistair bite the bullet for that monumental fuckup. He makes his bed and now he gets to die in it.
