Why does everyone hate Alistair?

He was too obviously the 'funny' character.

It was too forced, and his sarcastic comments didn't contain much wit. 'I love how the blight brings people together...' lame.

His funniest moment for me was actually with Wynne, when she was giving out about his dirty socks.

Funny, I thought she just kept backpedaling and hinting she was a backstabber! How could she!!!

Sorry, still angry about that one. I love Alister, I restarted about half way through my first playthrough because I realized I could marry him. He is totally my favorite love interest of any Bioware game I have played (Atton is not Bioware, but I'm not sure who I like better there).

I was reading a gameinformer and they were hating on Alistair too. That was annoying.

Alistair's my favorite character by far (except for maybe Dog). I just wish I could have married him and become queen with my little elf mage. Unfortunately, he didn't get my vote for king because of that.

If you play as a girl he becomes unlikeable pretty fast. Don't even think about talking to another party member if you be nice to the putz.

I *adore* Alistair...but I'm a sucker for defensive sarcasm...
And this...dear GOD, this....

Atton I liked better though, because he was a hell of a lot more clever, competent, and tough than he appeared
Oh, Atton...

I thought he was a great three dimensional character. Was he a little annoying at times? Sure but it was all sort of endearing. He felt very human to me which I take as a sign of great writing and voice acting. I actually cared about the guy, and others of my DA party. That's a feature most games don't come close to.

Alistair is my favorite DA:O character. I really like his conversations with Morrigan

I liked Alistair. I thought most of the characters: Alistair, Lailani, Morrigan, Zevran and the Dwarf guy. They were some of the best acted and designed characters I've seen in any game with interesting backgrounds and plots. Shame I didn't like the actual game and gave up about 1/4 of the way through. I really liked them, just hated the gameplay.

Alistair and Wynne, the resulting 'where do babies come from' conversation. And Alistair with Dog. I loved those conversations.

I liked him, and thought he added a lot to the game. There was also this weird disconnect with having Alistair on my computer being all sweet and kissy and then 4 feet over having the same voice being all evil in Uncharted 2 at the same time.

I thought the choices were valid for the character - he was what I expected him to be. Plus, I thought it was amazingly cool that if you hardened him during his personal quest that the voice changed for even his standard responses.

Kensage is pretty much the broken-power-gamer build though. It's not quite a CoDzilla, but as close as you could get in BG2.

Sorcerer-Insanity-Poverty run disagrees with your assessment. They're more broken than a Darkspawn who got Cone of Cold->Stone Fist combo'd. Yes, even moreso than Kensage.
