And it didn't even have an ending where "The villain is over Yonder now kill him good" it had you running away in a jeep.
Riiigghht...I'm sorry but isn't that right after you run around the place blowing everything up? Or did you miss everything before that?

Ah, another of these Halo threads, well if you ask to me, the problem with this franchise was specially the empity indoor levels design, and the library level on the first one, man that was annoying.

The main problem with Halo is that It's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid] been [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_(video_game)] done [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_(film)] before [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predator_(film)].

That's only to name a few, but the thing is, Halo is unoriginal, and doesn't really provide anything to the games industry, or the FPS. Nonetheless, the games are pretty good, but no where near the best.

I thought Halo was a repetitive game. It gets boring very quick. There are also parts of the game where it tries to be cinematic and amazing, but ends up being bland and mediocre. It does look pretty, though. It's a Pop game, all the "cool kids" play it, as well as the annoying smart-mouthed little kids who are no older than eight years old.

well most of those people are MS fan boys and its only for the 360 so... yeah

imo the orange box far surpassed halo
They said the original Halo CE "revoloutionised FPSes", they aren't talking about the later helpings. Your comparison is very odd indeed in this light.

Halo (2001)
Orange Box (2007)

Not to mention, The Orange Box is 3 different games, all with very different design intents to Halo. They may all be FPSes, but it's a very strange comparison to make. Anyhoo, although the "cool kids" will try to say how lame and cookie cutter the Halo series was, the first one was actually pretty good for it's time. It's just the in thing to Halo bash after the lackluster sequels. Remember guys, the original Halo came out 7 years ago. Comparing it to contemporary games and making judgements due to it's much stereotyped player base is pretty foolish. Halos 2 and 3 are bland, dull and done before. The original Halo, like it or not, helped push the genre forward (SHOCK SHOCK HORROR HORROR), with some of it's combat mechanics and more importantly multiplayer.

Your right not all FPS's on PC are difficult, but most of the people who play Halo are console gamers. Up to Halo there weren't that many console FPS's and the ones there were had a lot of quirks. The simplicity brought in a whole new crowd of gamers and helped push the FPS genre on console's as we know it.

Half-Life came out 10 years ago and it's still much better then most shooters I've played since it's release.

I don't have Halo 3; I do, however, hate the 12,000 or so Halo 3 threads asking why everyone hates Halo 3 every damn month, or when a new Halo 3 announcement is realease, or when someone else asks why people ahte Halo 3, or when someone makes a Halo 3 thread, or when someone reviews Halo 3.

" mean you can't honestly say it's a BAD game if over millions of people have bought it."

well I can say while it isn't par say bad it really does not do anthing good.
I mean yes the story line is cool, but a good story line can be chopped into a good 2-3 parts and still make since. ( sort of like when I watched Bourne Supremacy before Bourne Identity and it made complete since, unlike halo 3 that left me asking "wtf?"

In terms of gameplay it is very bland for it's ganra and the series of halo games, although they added some more wepons and vehicals they did nothing to change the way the game is played or thought about, unlike half-life that used puzzels and physics to make the game somthing more than just blowing the head off the guy next to you, that can be good but make sure to not go crazy about stuff like that like in "haze".

Multiplayer however did improve apon halo universe, but since it is a fps you have to look at all the other games that came out like cod4 that added a leveling system to make players play more, although microsoft did put map packs in, there really is nothing that is there to unlock in multiplayer exsept achevements and rank whitch would have been good on the pc 5 years ago, but by today's standards that does not cut it anymore. ( mabyee they should have wepons that could be unlocked and new maps that you have to earn only by doing challanges like in perfect dark 64) that would make people want to play more after the game was lame.

also you need to get better download able content (yes )downloadable content on XBL is lame.
they need to put more stuff than just new maps to download, like vehicals, new wepons, new character models, new game modes that are not on the disk, and mabey a mod kit so the users can make their own content and do you job for you.

it is not that Halo 3 is bad it just doesn't push the envolope at all ( like microsoft's marketing plan )

don't feel bad, it is hard to see what is good.

thats because microsoft payed off a lot of game critic to say what they wanted to hear about it so they could make a lot of kipe about an ok game. ( sort of like the crappy movies in theaters)

Weeding through all that though, you've pretty much nailed it, but it's pretty obvious to most people.

It doesn't suck. It's just bland and unintuitive.
So is Gears of War and so is Resistance.

My point being that there is nothing inherently "bad" about Halo. I think the real problem is some people started touting it as the greatest sci-fi saga ever (which it isn't, it's just merely good), thus leading to this backlash.

Well that and the smacktards on multiplayer but that's everywhere.

And didn't Halo 3 have a leveling system in place before CoD 4?

Because the Halo series are sub-par shooters that brought in an element that, much like the 'casual' gamers now, dropped the level of work that people put into games by drawing in people with lower standards. Halo 1-3 have rather bland weapons, poor story, annoying gameplay curves and the only real feature is the multiplayer which again only served to hurt the industry as a whole.

I guess what I'm saying is that its a sub par game and if you enjoy it you are entitled to, but youd best not bash 'casual gamers' as you most likely belong to a subset that came into gaming later and ruined alot of it for those of us who have been doing it for ages.

Personally, I've really enjoyed the Halo series. For me though, it's always been about the story. I've always enjoyed playing games that have a very expansive story, and the story in the Halo series is the main reason I kept playing it. Granted, 3 seemed to have the weakest section of the story, but I still enjoyed it, and had fun while playing through it.

As far as the story goes, I was really disappointed that the Arbiter was basically thrown into the position of voiceless sidekick. I was really interested with his character and where his story was going in 2, only to have him show up and just tag along with the rest of the good guys, only bringing in more elites when humans felt like taking their 15 minute break. It felt like Bungie took that whole section of the story, and just dumped it in the garbage.

Alright, I've ranted enough. In a nutshell, Halo 3 is fun, but I've played much better.

Allow me to make an analogy-rant on how Halo fanboys sound:

ALUMINUM IS THE BEST ELEMENT EVAR! BUY SOME ALUMINUM WITH ME NOW AND WE CAN PLASTER THE WORLD WITH OUR ALUMINUM! IF YOU DONT LIEK ALUMINUM THEN YOU ARE A FAG. ONLY NON-FAGS LIEK ALUMINUM. GET YOUR ALUMINUM AND PUT IT ON YOUR HEAD, MAKE A CAR, OR WRAP YOUR FOOD! IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOO AWEEEEEEESOOOOOOOOOOME!!!!
==========================================================================================

See, don't you feel like buying some aluminum now? No? Why not?

The truth of the matter is that as cool as aluminum might be, its a pretty common element. The stuff we do with it can also be done with other materials, so in the end, aluminum is just good when compared to itself, but still just so-so. Yet we get to hear constantly how great it is over and over and over because some one who has never used plastic wrap on their food will say aluminum foil is the best.

(Now before anyone starts responding to me about how bad of an analogy aluminum is because no one over-sings its praises, please come up with a better one first. It was the best I could come up with on the fly)
