Why does everyone hate the PS3?

I dunno. I know the PS3 is unpopular in my town simply because more people have Xbox 360's and most people(myself included) simply go with what their friends have. There doesn't seem to be a lot of genuine hate by anyone other than rabid fanboys. I personally don't "hate" the PS3, I just don't have any interest in it, since there aren't a lot of games on it that I'm highly interested in, and I wouldn't get any multi-platform games on it since I'd just be playing with a bunch of strangers (hence why all of the exclusives that I'm interested in are singleplayer-only, with the exception of Wipeout HD, but I don't play racing games online anyways).

The internet is another story entirely, but then again, it's the internet: the one place where the minority is given a powerful voice.

(I can't speak for the PS3 fans, since I don't know any personally)

The xbox360 because it seems to be the target of every blockbuster release, therefore it's the winner of the current round. We'll see how the next one goes.

let me start off by calling you a total fanboy.
Pot called the kettle black.

1) You provide no counter-argument.
2) You have both consoles, and favour the machine that has failed you twice.

That is Fanboyism.
I didnt need to counter argue, and I said even though it got red rings I still enjoy it more that the console that dosent get a chance to because all the games suck!, not the system, the games, you know the part that really matters?

p.s.- learn how to italisize

Because it's too expensive and hard to program for. And 360 fanboys are bitter about their consoles melting on an annual basis.
Hopefully it will pick up. It's got great hardware..I mean..built in wifi as standard?I have a 360, by the way. And am sick of consoles in general.

So I own a PS3 and it seems like it is getting shunned by the world of gaming. Everywhere I go there is always a Microsoft fan boy telling me how much the PS3 sucks. Don't get me wrong, I've met some PS3 fan boys and the are not any better, but why is the PS3 the scum of the universe? Maybe it is just demographics, or maybe I just don't know enough people. AND, why the f-sauce didn't they release an expansion for Fallout 3 on the PS3??????? Not cool. >.<
Because it is far too expensive, huge and lumberous and why have one when you can settle for a cheaper, more versatile console?

XBOX 360 FTW.
Thank you Hannahdonno for basically proving his point.

People don't like the PS3 because of it's cost (both of the console and to develop for it). Plus the lack of backwards compatibility killed it for a lot of people. I mean c'mon most of us own/ed a PS2 and remember it had amazing games. Fanboys are just blind followers, they feel they have to defend their console of choice.
Also Fallout 3 will not get any expansions on the PS3 because Microsoft paid for exclusive rights on the 360.
As I have just said to another poster, I was attatched to my PS2, but the PS3 made me want to hurl every Sony based product I own out of the window. If you actually take everything into consideration, the 360 is technically better.
I do not have an opinion as to the technical specifications of either unit. I own a Xbox 360 because it was cheaper at the time. My question is what makes the 360 technically better. I am not trying to pick a fight only ask that you expound a little about the reasons for its superiority.
I think the PS3 acctually has a better graphics chip, but graphics matter very little to most people

Edit: tripple post FTW!

Why base buying a next gen console on its ability to play last-gen games?? I've never understood it, but frankly it doesn't make any sense. Apart from a few games on the PS2, there are all next gen sequels to them (out or due to be released) on the PS3 with better graphics, gameplay etc.
...
...
I'm speechless. I just don't know what to say here man. And i don't think your second sentence makes much sense either.

Oh oh wait i know!
The PS1 and PS2 have a vast game lineup, and the PS3 still barely has anything. PS2 games cost less than PS3 games. For me, the early PS3s were PS2s that i can use to play some next gen games when some come out. And now SONY took that potential away and all that's left is an expensive blu-ray player with a handful of exclusives and a bunch of JRPGs. I don't give two shits about graphics either, and what's a sequel worth without playing the previous games? Obviously with the exception of GT and such. But why should i pick up MGS 4 if i don't even know WTF happened in the other 3 MGS games? That's what doesn't make sense.
Playing PS1 games nowadays would only be for nostalgia; the gameplay, graphics etc suck. For storyline, save the cash and hit wikipedia or a fansite. Why trudge through dated gameplay and crappy AI just to find something out which a 10 minute read would have enlightend you on?
After replaying Devil May Cry, I realised that good games then are not good games now, and should be left in the past. Playing them now is either a test of patience of laughably bad.
A handful of exclusives? Same amount as 360, maybe a bit less, but better quality. Not to mention every single multiplatform game which is the vast majority of games nowadays. People say it is lacking in games but thats nonsense; it has the majority of 360 games and vice-versa.
Okay this is where i'm leaving this conversation, as it's not going to get anywhere. You apparently don't understand that some people DO like older games. I play games from all the way back in the late '90s, and i enjoy them to death. In fact i enjoy them a lot more than the majority of shallow dumbed down cash-ins that are modern games. I clearly stated that i don't care about shiny graphics, so you shouldn't have brought that up as an argument afterwards. I honestly pity you, for you can not appriciate these old masterpieces like Fallout or Soldiers of Anarchy. You're missing out on a lot of fun mate.
I mentioned graphics once, but mentioned gameplay more. What is there to like about older games? Apart from the storyline, absolutely nothing! If you want just storyline, read a book. What is there to appreciate in games which have terrible graphics and handle even worse? Games are not books and rarely are art. As they are made using technology, they are going to become worse with age. I have a stash of PS1 and PS2 games, and I don't ever play them because I will just realise how times have changed and how they are now crap. There is no fun to be missed out in games which have no challenge due to buggy gameplay and AI. GT2 was great, but now it is crap in comparison to it's sequels. Driver was great, now it handles like a cart full of rocks with awful AI. Morrowind was amazing, but now it's combat system is painfully repetative.
Games get worse teh older they become because technology gets better. Simple.
Come off it , man! Give me the choice of replaying Contra or playing the newest Halo clone and I'll take Contra every time.

If you say video games aren't an art form, then I'm sorry but you have just offended this whole forum. I dare you to say that to anyone who has been involved in the creation of a game. They would slam you through twelve different dimensions. Video games incorporate every "art" form. They have writing, music, drawings, landscaping, and acting. Just because at the very core of the game it's only 0's and 1's doesn't exlude it from being an art form.

Fan boy wars start this stuff, I personally haven't played a PS3 just yet, but I don't have a reason not too, except that it's so darned expensive.

This reminds me of Jumplion's "Why the hate for Sony?" thread that was all about the PS3, though that thread managed to avoid mom jokes and some of the "ABC is 1337 while XYZ is EPIC PHAIL". Everyone does not hate the PS3, simple as that. It has PROs and CONs like the rest of them.

No, good games then are not good games now.
Says you? You can of course tell me what, say, the new Sam & Max games do so much better than Monkey Islands did. Or why A Link to the Past is suddenly unplayable. Or why Radiant Silvergun is unplayable.

For example, Starcraft is painfully slow and Diablo 2 is very repetative.
I've seen faster RTS games (C&C, Red Alert, Z for instance) made before Starcraft and slower ones made after Starcraft (Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire) so what you're saying can be chalked up to your own opinion and nothing else. Speed really has nothing to do with age in this case. Besides, not every RTS has to have 5-15 minute matches.

And Diablo 2? It still has yet to be surpassed as a loot-based action RPG. I can assure you that there's a very good reason why these games are still played and sold.

Some games aren't challenging, but older games present even less of a challenge, such as old RTS' and FPS' where tactics are utterly pointless.
Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Operation Flashpoint, Starcraft and Total Annihilation would disagree.

because their games are terrible apart from a few, its hugely expensive and when it was being tested in china or japan I dont know which but it burnt down a lot of houses. Persoaly a ps3 isnt that bad even with what I said if I do go round one of my freinds houses and they have a ps3 we always start playing. So I dont hate it but im not a huge fan but I like it.

99% of hate comes from people who don't own the console
99% of love comes form the people who own the console

see a pattern ?

Its Fanboys buddy i have both consoles and am proud of both of them but after 3 years of owning them i have come to this conclusion

the PS3 is worth every penny and it will last longer just like the PS2 and PS1 even thought it had a bad start you but can garuntee it will last more years to come

The 360 is just as worthy a console as a PS3 but i can see it will not last as lonmg as the PS3

So does the PS3 deserve hate ?

No because hating is a opinion and opinions can't be used as facts therefore even if you back it up with statistic's its never gonna turn your insight into fact

Message to all Fanboys:

Leave the consoles alone just be a True Gamer who only wants to Game

I don't think people hate the PS3 as much as they hate the people who defend the PS3 as the ultimate gaming platform with no problems.

I have a PS3 and play it regularly. I also have an XBox360. My wife bought a Wii.

I can say this for certain though -

I have a full friends list on the XBox. I have 5 people on my friends list my PS3.

The XBox 360 is just the more popular system. Still out-selling the PS3. The Wii is still out-selling them both.

So whether one is better than the other is clearly not what people care about when buying a console. It largely depends on what system everyone else has and is playing with friends.

From a technological stand point, no.
I will admit it has a majority of better games though. I actually don't see anything wrong with the PS3 other than it's being under supported (opposite of the Wii which is being over supported just not by very many good developers). Well I guess there is some bias in my reasoning since I have a backwards compatible PS3.
I didn't mean techincally actually meaning technically... I'm confusing mysellf now. Yes, the backwards compatibility was an added bonus, but now they are very hard to come by. And yes it may be technically quite good, but it could be argued its TOO good. No one can be bothered making games that use the PS3's true potential and is there any point having a really good console thats just going to gather dust, due to the lack of good, exclusive games?

And they could have made more of an effort to change the pad |:
Yeah it is very difficult to develop for. And I actually like the control pad, it's good for everything just not shooters. I'll admit that the 360 control is one of the best for FPS's.
Yerr, there is hardly any difference in the pad though, it kinda sucks. The PS3 has amazing potential, but there stubborness in reducing prices along with downgrading the console makes it unpopular.
They can't really lower the price without losing even more money. The Wii is probably the only console that can right now and still be making a profit. Everytime Microsoft makes a price cut, I worry and wonder what corner they've cut to cut the price and what error I will see in the news pop up. The PS3 original Sixaxis was more of a step sideways. Sure it lacked rumble, but the motion sensing worked (although no where near as well as the Wii's). With the dualshock 3 it was finally a full upgrade.
Which shows that Sony made a few ill advised decisions when making the PS3, creating a fairly expensive console in a competitive market alongside a recession. They believed because of the success of the PS2, they would get a free ride on the console market. They were sadly mistaken.
