Okay, I know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this, but I think the Uncharted series is overrated. Nathan Drake is a copy/pasted generic and flawed character which makes it so I don't care about him at all.

The same goes for his girlfriend. I don't see why they don't expand on the really cool characters like......everyone else. Sully is cool and Chloe is a very strong female character. How can Drake turn HER down??!! That English guy from the third game is really interesting too, but they drop him off the face of the earth halfway in. Next the story is meh.

It always involves some ancient treaure that inevitably has some kind of ancient evil behind it that the villains try to take. It also usually goes batshit bonokers like when you have to fight evil mutants and some shit. Next is the gameplay. I don't understand why people say it's perfect hollywood action. It's NOT! They make the horrible mistake of spoiling everything in the trailers so it's no suprise when the next major explosion happens.

Also, the third game has this really fucking irrelevant ship part that had NO connection to the story at all! Also, the game makes the same mistake that almost every action game makes. Set pieces really come to life when you have bad-ass music blazing in the background. A perfect example of this is that boat part from Half Life 2.

Also, quick-time events are just overrated pieces of shit. They aren't really engaging. Now one of my BIGGEST problems with the Uncharted series is how frustrating it is. There was 2 parts I can think of in Uncharted 1 that was so stupid and frustrating like that whole drive a boat up A FUCKING RIVER and wait every two seconds to see if there's an enemy that has an RPG that kills you in one hit.

Or the part where they send out FUCKING god-like Navy-Seal like guys with top of the line weaponry. Or parts of that ship section in Uncharted 3, the list goes on and on. Also, like a lot of people have said, the aiming can fell off at times. On that note, why the hell does it take SO MANY BULLETS to kill one enemy? Especially when that enemy has a sniper rifle that can one-shot you if you stand still for longer than it takes to get out of cover( Which Nathan seems to be stuck to).

So can someone please explain to me why the Uncharted series is apparantly the Jesus Christ of videogames? I would greatly appreciate that.

EDIT: Okay, I don't care about the whole Indiana Jones thing. If that mattered, then we'd still call FPSs Doom clones. Also, I'm not trolling. These are just my reasons for thinking the game is overhyped.

One more thing: Not once... not a single fucking time did I say that the Uncharted series is bad. I found it fun and I enjoyed my time with it. So Shut.The.Fuck.Up. I like the game. I just think it's overrated.

Dang son. Use paragraphs. That is hard to read as hell. O_O

OP: People really love it for the story. Yes, the mcguffen is cursed, whatever. The journey to that point is exciting enough to stat engauged. Uncharted has some of the best writers to ever work on games.

That laundrey list of nitpicks you have are things reviewers have brought up, but it doesnt detract from the game that much, and a skilled player can get through it.

why do people like Modern Warfare games?
why do people like Pokemon games?
why do people like JRP games?

Why? because we all like different things. The list above are three genres of games that I don't like/can't get into, does that force me to write a huge block of text moaning about things I don't like in those games? No.

People have different opinions?! Madness sir!

OT - What this guy said. Pretty much word for word, which conisdering the point we're trying to get across is rather a shame.

I've always liked it for the combat. I really liked how you could almost always attack with melee, especially from locations that where most games would leave you flailing like an idiot e.g. standing on top of a chest high wall, and booting the enemy behind it in the face.

I like it because this is what Indiana Jones would be like in the modern day
maybe you don't like Indy films, or maybe all you saw was the fourth one but for those of us that grew up with these films can really appreciate Uncharted for what it is

Yes the Shooting is sub-par.
Yes the melee combat is repetitive.
Yes the stealth is shite.
Yes the platforming is too easy.
Yes the plotlines are incredibly formulaic and ludicrous.
Yes the series constantly focuses on the two least interesting or likeable characters the more rounded, enjoyable ones.
Anyone who isn't blinded by fanboyism will openly admit that all of these are true.
But Uncharted is a very rare occurance:a game which is genuinely much better than the sum of its parts.

To me, Uncharted is one of the most fascinating experiences i've encountered. At various points through each game I have absolutely hated every single facet of the game.
And yet I still find myself having a great time.

For what it is? So it really is a Indiana Jones rip off but the main protagonist is more of a jackass. And if the game is JUST like and Indiana Jones.......the why are you playing it? If it is the same then why dont you see the movies instead?? they are almost free of charge and once you play 1 Uncharted game you have seen them all but may as well see the films because it cheaper.

OP, the reason EVERYONE likes these games is the same of why everyone likes Gears of War and Halo......because they fear that if they dont pay for these products the developers will go backrupt and never make good games like in the old days (Epic Games used to make games like Tyrian)

In the case of Uncharted, its because Amy Henning is the writer, who also wrote the Legacy of Kain series; A more ambitious and original IP that now will never be finished because people prefer mindless spectacle over something original and epic and since Uncharted is making money anyway i see no reason for the writer to give a fuck about the reason of why she got famous in the first place. Its like if Tim Schafer dismisses to make more Adventure Games over FPS as a safe bet to make money and waste his talent; Sure, the extra money is helpfull but forgetting his roots its a price that NO ONE should pay

Now it will be very interesting if the Uncharted series was made to cash on the FAIL that was Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Since everyone felt dirty by having their escapism ruined by having an old indy it makes sense that they make a Expy in a more younger form. Could someone tell me when Uncharted 1 started develop?? It was after or before the first trailer of KOTCS?? Maybe they knew that if indy is a old man then the escapism would be broken and the movie would fail, so they made this series for the people who had their dreams of masculine adventure shattered :D

EDIT: If you want people to listen you may as well put games that do the same as Uncharted but better. If they really like it for the story may as well play Legacy of Kain (See? is not that difficult, so edit your post a bit)
Also, if you liked a char that isnt the main one then its because awesome if better handled in small doses and also because they want you to buy more crap by holding the interesting chars hostages or else they get put on a bus.....FOREVER

Or because it doesn't sacrifice story over content. The graphics are amazing. The set pieces are breath taking. You don't see many game developers putting in tons of midnight hours to make these amazing level designs anymore. The train scene in U2 was simple gorgeous. The final locations of U3 are stunning. A lot of work went into those games, and it shows.

Now on the other hand, if you just want to parrot Yahtsee and talk about how Drake is "racist" or a sociopath murderer, then go ahead, there are loads of people who will join you. Doesn't make it true. Showing race in a game is not racist. Killing predominately one race in a game is not racist.

Killing tons of bad guys does not make you a sociopath. Hell, Etzio kills more people in one day than Drake does in an entire game, simple because he follows a different world view. Drake is at least being shot at by the people he kills.

All your character rants are borderline trolling. OMG, like, the sub character is British, but he doesn't have a bigger part!

And for the record, Chloe is a *****. She's awesome, but she's a *****. It's all about Elena....

never played the game but I can tell you it's a matter of taste, no amount of rant is going to change peoples minds, some people like it, some dont.
Just like with Zelda, Mario, GTA, Halo, CoD etc

The same could be said about Revenge of The Sith battle of Obi-Wan and Anakin, they put tons of special effects in that fight only be boring after the first 5 minutes but still drags on and on. Should be applaud the effort? YES. Does the set pieces make sense in context?? like for example (and i quote here) "really fucking irrelevant ship part"??? NO.

what makes you think I don't watch the first 3 films as well as play the Uncharted games. Sure I love the movies but there's a difference between watching and playing, and both are fairly cheap you pay for it once and watch or play as many times as you want. Its not like I buy the game every single time I want to play it -___- and I never said it was the same, I said it was Indiana Jones in MODERN DAY
and your dislike of Drake doesn't mean everybody hates him, sure he's no Sheppard but he's likable enough :/ it has nothing to do with Legacy of Kain its just a fun game that YOU fail to enjoy it doesn't make it a bad game, hell I hate Madden, racing, and every sports game in general but they sell like hot cakes, but just because I don't like them doesn't make them bad they're just not my type of game, so I guess the same applies to you Uncharted just isn't your type of game so why does it bother you that other people like them for their different reasons?

I like ambition and innovation and Uncharted plays it safe, therefore it has nothing new or shinning about it. People are better off playing something else. Would be nice if this game WAS something revolutionary that everyone copies off or rework into something even better but since people dont know any better i am not surprised that people like this.

Also, how do you make Indiana Jones MODERN if the Indy series was ALREADY MODERN?? Indy was inspired by the old movies series in the 30-40 that Lucas and Spielberg saw as kids, so when they made Star Wars and Indiana Jones they become modernized even if the concept its just the same. In one place we have epic good vs evil and another we have escapism adventure. So tell me, how do you modernize something already modernized?? And dont tell me its something like doing a parody of a parody because that doesn't work fine in the end.

OT: Please dont use the "Its not for you" excuse, it reminds me of the Twilight fangirls. It will be better for everyone sanity that you dont use it

Man, that is not the way that people should be thinking because in the end you are favoring something less mediocre over the other mediocre crap but guess what? it is still mediocre

Did I say it was amazing? No. Medicore games aren't going to stop being made until people stop buying them. Tell the billions of people who buy it or the new Call of Duty to stop buying them. That's not going to happen. Why? Because apparently people have bad taste.

I'm a PC gamer, I don't buy games I don't intend to play let alone mediocre games I see little value.

Anyway. To answer your question.

Because they do? I love the Uncharted series. I enjoy the flow the games have to them, the characters are fun, and the storylines (while repetitive) are enjoyable to be seen over and over again without getting boring. Despite this, I can easily see why some people don't like them. I for one HATE modern warfare games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, instead opting for the sillier shooters like Serious Sam 3, Bulletstorm and Team Fortress 2 but I don't begrudge people for liking them (unless they act like complete elitist dicks about it). It's all a matter of taste and some people have different taste-buds than others.

So? just replace the weaponry of the bad guys and make the buildings and cities to be acurrate on their current state and that is it, nothing else. Why in this day and age (2011 for the game) would anyone seek those treasures if at this point the WHOLE FUCKING PLANET already stole all the doomsday weapons/fountain of youth/etc and therefore there is nothing else to discover??
Better yet, how does setting the Uncharted series in this day change ANYTHING at all?? What socio policical implications affect the world that is so important to set it today?? It seems that multimillionaires villains are still going around free to finance whatever expedition they want.

Lets analize, shall we? If someone likes something specific about the game/movie when the rest is mediocre or awful then why doesnt the person donates money to the people behind the making of that set piece/special effect/dialog/whatever ??? If he pays for the full product then you are sending the message to make MORE mediocre crap so why people doesnt do that already?? Say that someone likes Trasformers 2 ROTF special effects but the rest of the movie is......yeah, so why doesnt he go to Youtube and watches the scene for free or better yet, why doesnt he see the best part of the movie, AKA the credits and sees the name of the person that he needs to pay for ACTUALLY doing his job well?

By the way, do you try free PC games?
