I like anime because it is like cartoons but more violent, funny, and perverted. It's cartoons for adults.

Most anime tropes. And Sturgeon's Law.

And most of the anime that gets translated is shonen, so...

A simple answer would be that too much shit happends at the same time, way too rapidly. Every fightscene is a mishmash of colours and gargantuan swords.

Oh, and they're weird.

The only explanations I have ever heard are:
1)They are all stupid(wait...what?)
2)They are cartoons so they must be childish(no, no they're not)
I myself love anime, as my avatar may hint.

A vast majority of the ones I saw were awful. The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya ranks at number 1 of the worst animes I've seen.
LOL thats like the number 1 best anime for most people XD

As with any medium you gotta separate the crap from the gems

It can be hard to keep someone's interest if they don't care about the characters or don't read quickly enought to follow subtitles, but it's just oppinion really, doesn't matter how big a robot you pull out

Not sure why I've turned off it, I did watch quite a bit when I was in my late teens.

I guess I've given up on a lot of TV shows really, so Anime in all it's forms isn't really an exception. A lot of the content matter these days doesn't appeal to me anymore either, so for me it's just a change of taste.

Well I like anime, well certain varieties of anime anyway. However for those that don't I imagine it's either that old and very very very incorrect perception that animation is just for kids, and personal preference. Although really I don't really understand how someone can dislike all anime because there's such a wide variety of styles and genres. It's pretty much like saying you don't like movies. Anyone who says they don't like anime obviously hasn't sampled enough of it to find something they like and is too close-minded to give it a chance.

Personal preference. Who would have guessed?

Why don't people like pepper on their dinner? Or, hell, why do they like pepper on their dinner?

Reasons I don't like Anime:

1. Large number of androgynous characters.

2. Large number of anime feature poor production values, which is marketed as "trademark anime". i.e. same backdrop in mutiple scenes, same corny strobe effect in preparation for action.

3. Same characters making constant appearances. i.e. Pedo-schoolgirl/innocent, long-haired villian, spike haired hero, all three characters are in a large amount of anime, and all three characters are always identical with exception of costume.

4. The "good" anime series almost always have the same storylines. "magic demon/vampire/monster" or "robots".

5. Fans of anime.

6. Alternatives to anime are always better. American cartoons- personally, Venture Bros. and Harvey Birdman. Other foreign animations are better too, i.e. Triplets of Bellville.

Virtually everything about anime is shoddy and similar. Claims of it being its own "style" are faulty. If a restuarant had a menu with only three or four items, and the food was always half-rotten, nobody would say it was a "style" of restuarant, with a "unique" selection. It would be considered a shithole.

Anime isn't considered a shithole, and it has a fan base, largely because of two primary reasons.

1. People who love Japanese cultural items, regardless of how stupid it may be.

2. People who love "magic demon/vampire/monster" and "robot" stories, regardless of characters, style or lack thereof, and quality. As long as the storyline is in those two catagories, they are almost guaranteed to love it.

I am open to the possibility that a good anime does exist. But as it stands, I have yet to hear about it, or see it.

Similarity in art styles can make it dificult for outsiders to differentiate between animes and they end up blending together, and make stereotypes easier as one bad anime becomes easier associated with better ones simple by their being an anime.

Perhaps it's also the stigmatism attached to it due to its percieved nerdy fan base, in the west I mean.

I always found the art styles to be too detailed or angular for my personal tastes.

Also, I prefer smoother animations and more frames than the typical anime seems to use.

I didn't like anime but then I tried it and now I'm addicted...so I guess some of them just don't watch it but still bash it.
