One word: withdrawal.

And in case you're thinking about pot, I just don't really like how it makes you feel

Personally, it's because I've seen people high and they just acted like morons, made bad decisions, and made complete fools of themselves. That just isn't a way that I ever want to act, intoxicated or no.

That and I just find it hard to respect anyone who uses any drug beyond weed. Mostly if they're just addicted to the stuff. (Bastard destroyed my bloody bike)

Well, because I don't really have the urge to ruin my life. I don't smoke, I drink but in strict moderation (maybe once every two months I'll go to town on it) and I feel that going down the drugs route would destroy everything I've worked hard to build. If I took drugs, I'd be terrified of turning around 10 years down the line and wondering what I was doing with myself for all that time.

I feel that I am odd enough without any added chemicals flowing through my brain. Both I and the world do not need me to get any stranger, or possibly have the desire to follow through on some of my thoughts.
One other thing is that I just don't see the fun in getting wasted.
It's not getting wasted that's the fun it's the night out. If you're surrounded by a bunch of depressing mongrels then getting wasted is shit and boring.

If you're on a great night out and you drink throughout the night then when you're drunk it's hilarious and excellent.
Mind you its even funnier not drink or take drugs and laugh at the dumb ridiculous things others people do. I do drink when I go out, just a little bit, usually vodka and beer. no more then 3-4 glasses/pints, not enough to make me drunk, sometimes a bit tipsy if I didnt have a proper meal before. And I love my expresso when going to work.

I've tried grass a few times, but not for years. It was alright, I suppose. I drink a lot of tea, and I like the occasional beer.

I choose not to do (illegal) drugs because I strongly suspect that I've inherited my father's addictive personality (he was a heavy smoker, a raging alcoholic and pretty much ate coffee granules out of the jar) and I don't want to risk getting stuck on something nasty (I can picture it happening all too easily). Heck, it's the reason I've always done my damndest to steer clear of cigarettes and also the reason I don't drink much, not to mention that I really dislike the person I become when I get properly drunk. Plus, I like being able to think in a straight line most of the time and I don't much like losing control of myself.

I don't do drugs because I have seen the effects they can have... A friend of mine dropped completely out of school during the last year because he would rather be high.

Also, drugs can damage brain cells and is/can be lethal. I'm not taking the chances

No. All drugs have powerful addictive properties, not just the hard ones.
Uh, no. LSD and pot have no addictive qualities. The only "addiction" possible is psychological, and that's questionable at best.
Psychological, habitual, and emotional dependencies i feel are valid addictive properties. This applies to anything that gives a positive stimulus for little to no effort such as food, booze, drugs, alcohol, sex and yes even video games.

While i fully understand that not everyone is at risk and that people with emotional problems are the likely ones to become addictive in this way i feel it is bad to completely ignore the potential. Pretending its not a danger when the common user of things like weed are teenagers who generally go through a lot of emotional shit i feel is irresponsible.

Call it what you want but it is an inherent danger. Ignoring it is no better then exaggerating.

I wouldn't say it's funnier. Infact not being in the same mindset can actually be very boring I think. It's the same deal if you're the only one drinking.
BUt I would, unless you are going out against your will to meet with a bunch of douchebags, in that case go ahead and get yourself as close to alcoholic coma as possible, otherwise you might ending up trying suicide with a broken glass. But if I go out I am in a good mood and I know what I should expect to find. I find hilarious. I also pick people to go out I know they get funnier when drunk and I enjoy. :)

I drink regularly, say once or twice a week, once lightly and the other fairly heavily. I probably go through 3/4 cups a tea a day or more depending. Not for the caffeine i do switch to roobois, more for the taste.
That said, when i'm drinking i know i am rarely an annoying tit. I know this because when i haven't a clue what happened the night before, everybody i've ever asked laughs and tells me something amusing that i've done, should remember or video'd (the last being the best)or gasps and asks me if i remember some incident or other. The friends i have are all at a stay where we don;t really need to watch what we say around each other, of course you phrase things a bit differently out of friendship but if you're being a tit you will get told the following day.
With this in mind i have my vices and i need no more, i had a lot of friends into drugs all of which annoy the fuck out of me when they're on them. Not because i've never taken themit is simply because it takes a normal person and turns them into a very strange idiot or a small petulant child. Some people have said to me its the same as being drunk, maybe it is, but from the outside i can tell you it isn't. That is a had, not a have i might add. We've definitey grown apart.
I don't take them not because i so much care about how people see me, more how i see myself through them. I'm not saying they're wrong but i certainly want nothing to do with it. This and coupled by the amount of devastation i've seen it cause, both within my friends and with the local population in general i can definitely say, it just aint worth it. Alchol isn't innocent, no doubt but from what i've seen as soon as you stop drinking and bite the hangover in the ass you're back to normal, not so for many things.

Honestly, I just don't want to end up like Ozzy.

Hard drugs seriously mess people up, and I want to stay sharp.

That's fair, I have a different opinion on non-physical addictions, but I can see it from your point of view. My only problem is that, as you said, those types of addictions can be applied to almost anything that the brain finds pleasurable, not just drugs, so why does it even really apply? A person who is "addicted" to LSD is the same as a person who is "addicted" to cheese. Hell, I would venture the person addicted to cheese would be causing more health problems.

edit: I would also venture that most people who recreationally smoke are early 20's, but that's just my experience.

I don't do the major illegal drugs because it's just too damn expensive and unless i"m at my university, it's imp;ossible to get them in Small Town Shit. Oh you can get dyed moss that is claimed to be opium, but damn, you'll never get the real stuff so i don't bother looking. Too many horror stories.

and I don't want to fund criminals. That seems like the best reason. Keeping a few hundred bucks away from a guy who wants to own an AK and rape villages is a good idea.
