I take prescription sleeping pills and I drink occasionally but I don't smoke because of the mouth and lung cancer risk and all the other health risks behind it

I don't take weed because my local dealer is shit, my family have a history of mental health problems so I don't want to join them and I have enough outcome with my money

Finally I don't take heroin because that is expensive and dangerous shit and cocaine because it is also dangerous shit, it's expensive and really relating to both heroin and cocaine you can get into some dangerous shit with owing people money and people owning your life for money

So yeah that's why

I have drank on a few occasions, but I don't try any actual drugs (real: if you can snort, smoke it, or inject it) because I'm afraid to get addicted. I've seen people ruin their lives because of drugs, and I don't want that to happen to me just because I want a couple hours or minutes of feeling good.

Though, I suppose if there wasn't the laws about I might be tempted to try a couple things. Maybe marijuana, maybe even shrooms or ecstacy. Nothing else.

I wouldn't have a word to say about anyone that does use them, it's a persons right what they do with their body.
I personally don't use them as I've seen what they can do to people.
I had a friend who was 17 when he started using drugs. It began with relatively common stuff but he spiralled downwards within a few short months, and due to a battle with alcohol as well he ended up overdosing and killing himself at just 18.

I'm not entirely advocating driving while under the influence of any substance, but driving while stoned has got to be one of the least dangerous ones. I don't do it myself because I don't have a car, but as a man who often has to rely on stoners to drive him places I can vouch for the fact that, really, it's not even comparable to driving while drunk. If anything, being stoned makes long road trips more tolerable-- I've been told that some people think they're better driving while stoned than normally because they're less stressed.

Idk, I'm not the type of guy who likes to get TOTALLY WASTED BRO-- I smoke before tests and before work and function just fine (if not finer).

There's simply too much misinformation about drugs floating around-- that's the real detrimental factor to responsible drug use being accepted. Separating the truth from the lies spread by propaganda groups, fueled by an irresponsible media, is extremely difficult.
Agreed. I've happily gotten in the car with a friend who'd indulged in a cheeky spliff or two earlier that day. But that's mainly because she was a smart enough person and I trusted her judgement that she was fit to drive. Just as you might if someone had enjoyed an alcoholic beverage.

Oh and FYI, this particular person would not drink at all if she was planning to drive.I'd certainly feel more comfortable getting in the car with someone who'd had a spliff rather than someone who's had a pint.

However, if an individual was very stoned I would probably not accept a ride - just as with someone who was over the alcohol limit.

It's mostly because of the fact that if you buy drugs you support criminals.
The "criminal" who sells me my drugs is a 20 year old Biology major in my apartment building who slings a little fire so he can afford to pay for WoW and GameFly every month. He gets it from a legal distributor in California.

I occasionally drink alcohol but that is every few months.

I had a friend who smoked weed a lot because she had a disease that would eventually lead to her death. Her personality changed after she started increasing the amount she smoked. She started making the same mistakes over and over again which lead to her leaving the area.

Besides the Alcohol I drink on occasion I don't do anything else. I drink just enough to get a buzz to forget about a stressful situation. I guess I'm not different from my former friend mentioned above.

Edit: Stupid post earlier, Hopefully improved.

There are a few reasons, namely health, accessibility, legality, and personal preference. The health issues should be obvious (several drugs have rather detrimental effects on the human body, and even if that isn't the case with all drugs, I rather enjoy being healthy and don't want to risk it), accessibility should also be obvious (they're controlled substances for which dealers whom one may or may not be able to find can charge exorbitant prices), legality (I just find life easier when I'm not in danger of being arrested), and, finally, personal preference (I just don't particularly want to use drugs). Besides, there are plenty of ways to improve your mood without resorting to drugs--music always puts me in a happier state of mind than I was when I started playing it/listening to it, for example. Therefore, I just don't feel the need to go through the hassle and expense of procuring and using drugs, when I can just go down to my basement, plug in an amp, and do something more productive with my life. It also doesn't help that most of the people I know who use drugs are mean-spirited idiots. I know, It's a stupid connection to make, but it's a connection in my mind nonetheless.

That said, I have no particular problem with people who use them--it's your life, I'm not going to tell you how to live it. Really, all of the reasons I've presented are just factors for an individual to weigh before choosing to use or not use drugs, and I just happen to have chosen the latter.

I applaud your reasonable approach, but one thing astounds me. This person you know, he goes driving, while high?!

He's a moron! Even the most ignorant arse I know who does drugs knows damn well that you don't drive while high. Sure, you're not quite as reckless as driving drunk drunk, but there's still the problem with the delayed responses to outside stimuli, the blurred vision, and the ever present danger of falling asleep.

Do me a favour, next time he tells you he's going out for a drive while high, smack him upside the head from me. It's behavior like that that's detrimental to responsible drug use being accepted.

Frankly it sounds like your friend doesn't need drugs to hurt himself and make bad decisions, I don't know if it's so much of a "drugs are bad" as it is a "my friend is an idiot" argument.
Well he's not the only "idiot" I know of. The never rolls solo, he doesn't have a gang, but there are always at least 2 more people with him in the car(sometimes they're sober, sometimes they're not).
And this creeps me out the most: as a sober person, how could you in good mind ride with this lunatic?

It's cool people like these that I dislike(no having met any other type of drug user, I just can't make up a different image for him, and albeit that's why I have difficulty accepting them; still I don't hate them)

Oh and for irony's sake: last week after prom, a girl had a car accident; she crashed in a tree or something like that(she was fine but the car was tottled). Who came to the rescue do give her a lift? That guy and his band of merry men
Poor girl is still in shock that she survived the night(still don;t know why she didn't call for a cab; although she was in the middle of nowhere, at 3 AM, and rape is not such a uncommon thing here...)

I drink beer, but I don't enjoy getting drunk, it's just for the taste. When I start feeling intoxicated, I also stop drink alcohol and switch to soda or water.
Smoked once, but it tasted vile. I've never felt the urge to take a second try.
If I get in the position of being able to try cannabis, I might do it for the experience, but it's not something I would seek out.

I drink, far too much generally. Aside from that all I've done is the occasional bit of weed at my mates house.

To be honest though, I'm just not interested in drugs. Weed just makes me tired, and I'm happy enough drinking to not bother with anything else. I have a clean criminal record, I see no reason to screw that up.

The reason I drink? It loosens me up. I'll happily walk around, talking to everyone, having a good time after a few drinks, whereas when sober I'm more likely to stick to the group of people I know. I have so many fantastic friends now that I wouldn't have met if I'd been teetotal, because I never would have just gone up and talked to them.

My Dad will disown me if I do and I don't really want to do them 'cause I know people who do and they are, how can I put this kindly, at the bottom of the food chain and are dropping out of school so I don't want to get involved

First off I'd like to clarify that by 'drugs' I refer to illegal drugs (Pot, Ice, etc).

The reason I don't do drugs is the same reason I don't drink: cause I enjoy things without needing enhancements :)
I don't mean that everyone who does drugs needs them to have fun or whatever, but even as a past time I really don't need or want them. If I wanna have fun I'll play a game, or go to the movies, or go shopping or something.

Even at parties I find things to do that are fun... actually, speaking of which, I was at my friend's family party and it was so crazy: random family members were dancing and singing, I think a 50-year old aunty tried to sexy-dance with me, there was billiards, TV, a hammock, a pool, everything, but still a couple of guys felt the need to get high in the corner and sit motionless for 3 hours, which I found kinda odd.

Plus because I didn't drink I was up early the next day ready to go again, unlike everyone else who slept in for a few more hours - Another reason I consider not drinking a bonus :)

Also, I'm quite health conscious. Even eating at Maccas will make me feel guilty, so random chemicals in my veins? No.

It's my brain goddamn it, and I'm going to control it on my own.

Also, I got high once from some stuff in shop class (not intentionally) and it was not fun. For me at least.

I do. I drink alcohol and smoke weed. I'm not saying others should follow in my path but everyone has to make there own choices.

Not driving would be a lot safer. Living at just above freezing temperatures your entire life would add an extra 10-12 years to your life span. We don't all eat perfect and exercise.

Everyone makes different choices and as long as you not hurting someone who doesn't have a choice(like having a kid around you while your impaired or just too messed-up in life, robbing people, beating up people who don't want fight or unfair fights, etc.) you can do as you please.
