I dont because i choose not too.
And for the same reason i dont drink Alchohol (Unless its offered free of charge, in which case ill do 1-3 shots), And that is because i dont deem it to be worth spending my money on.
With the variable that Alchohol isnt as potentially damaging as Narcotics.

Assuming alcohol and caffeine don't count, I don't use drugs because they seem like a waste of money and my parents wouldn't approve.

I play videogames and watch Ellen - I don't need drugs!

I have never done drugs, but I'm not really against it either. Maybe I should try it just once, to find out what it's like.

Thing is, as a recreational drug user myself it is hard to understand why people are so against it.
Ok short(*looks again at post after writing it*, man was I a hypocrit for calling this thing short!) personal version answer:

Let's take smoking. It's bad for your health(I really think no one denies that), and it is addictive. Considering there is no such thing as a casual smoker(I will never believe anyone who tells me there is such a thing), by poor(you guy's are gonna tell me I'm wrong, and I'm gonna go all "you can't change my mind", and in the end no one's opinion will change an we both will get banned so I'll just use the term "poor" to give a certain amount of truth to both parties) analogy there is no such thing as a casual drug user. A thing I know about addicts is that they will never ever confess to being ones, so there is no way to determine if the "casual" user is actually a "casual" one just by asking him. For people that don't use drugs(I don't even ever drink because it makes me depressed), a black and white approach is more easy, and less head hurting, when regarding the subject(we just go "drugs are bad";"don't go there"; moral dilemma solved; back to work).
Well that's my take on the matter, so I might be 100% wrong because it is a subjective and personal opinion(I'm in no mood to argue, or make enemies)

I don't hate people how use drugs(I'm more of a love person), I just think they are doing something bad(like my father that I love, but is a smoker so I feel sad for him) that I can't change and therefore I shouldn't interfere.
The only problems I have with people that use drugs, is that sometimes they seem a threat to me(I don;t care if they're a threat to themselves, I'm only interested in me, number 1).

Examples:
1) Some friends of mine usually feel bad, and disrespect me when I turn them down for a drink or a cigar, or a piece of pot(once of them actually became violent and tried to threaten me into drinking)
2) I know a marijuana user that once offered me a lift home(he was high, and drunk), and he was really angry that I turned him down. I mean I have no problem with people getting high or drunk, but when they go driving under such conditions, I'm sorry if I consider them a threat, and a menace.
Oh and this isn't something he does occasionally, this is his hobby. At least once a weekend he goes for a drive while drunk or high.

Ok case closed, and I'm awaiting(although not welcoming) all your negative reactions to my post.
I applaud you good sir. This is exactly how I feel about drugs and I couldn't put it better even if I tried and very good points as well.

I drink and get langers when I do but it's rarely more than twice a month.
Don't do any other drugs though I want to maximise my life expectancy and be an old man and see how far the world goes in my lifetime.

If you must know, I rarely mess around with any drugs because I look stoned all the time anyway. I can count the days 'til someone at work says "hey, you're doing a GREAT job! Now pee in this cup" on my hands. I have enjoyed (just the teensiest bit of) marijuana, I do enjoy drinking, and I would someday like to find a pretty lady that'll try out mescaline with me. For the time being though, I enjoy gainful employment more than all that.

Perhaps someday I'll be involved in a car accident that'll end up making me prettier than I am right now and I won't constantly be harassed about whether or not I'm performing my work inebriated.

I think we both might get that soon. The topic isn't over yet.

Well, I do a lot of drugs, so I probably shouldn't be on here, but I will say one thing. Speaking as a drug user myself, I do not lose respect for people if they don't do drugs. Some guys I know do, they think that if you don't do drugs, you're "square" and that you're somehow lesser. I do not think that, and think that it's stupid to think that. HOWEVER, I do think that if you make the assumption that everyone that uses drugs is an easily led moron who's just doing it because it's cool, then you're an easily led moron yourself.
Life is for the person who is living it. Choose your own path, and find happiness.

I'm interested in this thread though.

EDIT: Also, one other thing. Don't assume that everyone who does drugs uses it as a coping mechanism.
The only reason I have that opinion right now of drug users is because they're all in their teens, and when I ask them why they take drugs, they all reply "Because". They aren't even smart enough to come up with something like "Because I enjoy it". If people take drugs at an older age I understand that and don't dislike them because they probably do it out of nothing more than choice, but these kids really piss me off.

On topic though, I don't do drugs because I have far too much to lose if I did take them, and I'm not prepared to risk that. I have a loving family, lots of great friends, and my intelligence. Not saying that drugs make you stupid, but people certainly become a lot less tolerant of you when they know you use drugs. I like my life how it is, and don't see any need to do drugs or get wasted in a field with some friends. It just isn't worth it.

I'll list my priorities:

(1) because they are illegal, I don't want to get in trouble with the law
(2) they are not readily available, I don't know where to find them nor guarantee on quality
(3) I am worried about the health effects, every substance has a safe consumption level that that is simply too hard or impossible to gauge with most illegal drugs... IMHO
(4) I am worried about addiction to certain drugs: PS I have an obsessive personality, I easily fall into patterns of dependence.

1 and 2 seem like self fulfilling prophesies, "I don't take drugs cos they're banned, so they should stay banned cos I don't take them"

No, they just become BIGGER reasons than worried about health effects and addiction. Legislating against drugs works, for me at least, I think if Crack Cocaine was legal I'd be addicted to the stuff by now, I tried every other "legal drug" (alcohol, tobacco, etc) and became quite dependant on them (different from actual addiction as in the clinical definition). I don't drink or smoke any more but I still overindulge in food... but you can hardly abstain from food.

I don't disrespect Drug Users or Drug Addicts nor Drug Dependants (all three separate), I just think they are making mistakes and it is their loss. I hope they can get the best out of life.

If anyone does drink or do drugs to escape reality, then that's just flat-out insecurity.
I don't need a crutch like that.
*Orders up BabyTea a water and vinegar*

But, then again, you can't expect much compassion or depth of insight from someone who has obstinately avoided the experiences they're taking about.

i drink, and when i do i get trashed. i find its a way to open up and speak to people i usually wouldn't. i smoked weed for 2 years throughout the end years of highschool getting 92 in TEE. And had numerous infrequent encounters with lsd. i havent done the latter two in the last 8 months and never felt addicted or craved them. It was just a way to release and feel different. i never tried to suggest or force friends to try anything and they were fine with me because i wasnt out of it when i was with them.
If you dont do drugs, thats fine. But dont get all antsy at other people that do, when you've never tried it before.

I think there is nothing morally wrong with enjoying Marijuana recreationally (by recreationally I mean no more than twice a month) but the fact that it's illegal is why I haven't taken it up, not to say I haven't tried it before.

I applaud your reasonable approach, but one thing astounds me. This person you know, he goes driving, while high?!

He's a moron! Even the most ignorant arse I know who does drugs knows damn well that you don't drive while high. Sure, you're not quite as reckless as driving drunk drunk, but there's still the problem with the delayed responses to outside stimuli, the blurred vision, and the ever present danger of falling asleep.

Do me a favour, next time he tells you he's going out for a drive while high, smack him upside the head from me. It's behavior like that that's detrimental to responsible drug use being accepted.

Me too!

Although thankfully, it's not like there's a shortage or anything.
Yeah, go ahead and support the Taliban by buying weed so they can continue their righteous fight![/sarcasm]

I'm not entirely serious, but I think you get what I mean.
