Well the majority of recreational drugs can do you a fair amount of harm. I only drink alcohol occasionally, and I haven't taken anything else for recreation. I'm not against people using them, as long as it's not in a public space. I just don't see the benefits of getting hooked on them.

Because of my brother. After he starting taking drugs he:
1)Dropped out of sixth form
2)Dropped out of college
3)Got put into a college for college rejects.
4)Has been kicked out of the house.

Fun!

Lack of access, otherwise I'd do it a lot more. I drink a fair amount, and drugs would add to the experience, or provide an alternate way of having a good time

Because I've got too much to lose. I'm not opposed to casual pot use, or even excessive drinking (I drink a lot), but the crazier stuff I will never touch.

I do. My drug of choice, alcohol. I currently study pharmacy and has a rather keen interest in psychoactive drugs.

EDIT: Just to add, most of the interesting stuff is rather easy to make :D

I don't see the point. I can understand people wanting to turn to drugs and alcohol because they want to escape from the world and it's problems but in the end you are just ignoring them for a while before they all come back to haunt you. Personally, I believe that to be a sign of weakness.
Almost this.
If anyone does drink or do drugs to escape reality, then that's just flat-out insecurity.
I don't need a crutch like that.

But I'm not so naive as to think that everyone who does drugs does it to 'escape'. I know that some people do drugs just because they like it. It's like playing a game or something. They see it as just 'fun'.

I don't do drugs because I never do not want to be in full control of myself.
I used to have an extremely bad, uncontrollable anger issue when I was younger. Having since worked my way through that, I decided that anything that impairs my judgement in anyway and is used strictly for recreational use is off limits. I'll obviously take prescription drugs if I'm sick or have an infection or something, but I don't drink (To excess, anyways. Maybe a glass of wine), and I don't touch recreational drugs. I always want to be in my right mind, and in control of myself.

The habit costs too much money on other things I'd rather spend money on like videogames, computer parts, bandwidth and most precious of all electricity.

Because i don't want to. I don't feel the need to. I cant see any reasons why I should, and with a history of mental illness in the family (and myself) its more likely to do more harm then good.
Same here, don't need it for anything and I'm not the slightest bit curious about it either. Same thoughts I have on it now even before my brother even tried it. He became addicted, aggresive and he also blew a lot of money on it so he had to stop by the way.

Ok short(*looks again at post after writing it*, man was I a hypocrit for calling this thing short!) personal version answer:

Let's take smoking. It's bad for your health(I really think no one denies that), and it is addictive. Considering there is no such thing as a casual smoker(I will never believe anyone who tells me there is such a thing), by poor(you guy's are gonna tell me I'm wrong, and I'm gonna go all "you can't change my mind", and in the end no one's opinion will change an we both will get banned so I'll just use the term "poor" to give a certain amount of truth to both parties) analogy there is no such thing as a casual drug user. A thing I know about addicts is that they will never ever confess to being ones, so there is no way to determine if the "casual" user is actually a "casual" one just by asking him. For people that don't use drugs(I don't even ever drink because it makes me depressed), a black and white approach is more easy, and less head hurting, when regarding the subject(we just go "drugs are bad";"don't go there"; moral dilemma solved; back to work).
Well that's my take on the matter, so I might be 100% wrong because it is a subjective and personal opinion(I'm in no mood to argue, or make enemies)

I don't hate people how use drugs(I'm more of a love person), I just think they are doing something bad(like my father that I love, but is a smoker so I feel sad for him) that I can't change and therefore I shouldn't interfere.
The only problems I have with people that use drugs, is that sometimes they seem a threat to me(I don;t care if they're a threat to themselves, I'm only interested in me, number 1).

Examples:
1) Some friends of mine usually feel bad, and disrespect me when I turn them down for a drink or a cigar, or a piece of pot(once of them actually became violent and tried to threaten me into drinking)
2) I know a marijuana user that once offered me a lift home(he was high, and drunk), and he was really angry that I turned him down. I mean I have no problem with people getting high or drunk, but when they go driving under such conditions, I'm sorry if I consider them a threat, and a menace.
Oh and this isn't something he does occasionally, this is his hobby. At least once a weekend he goes for a drive while drunk or high.

Ok case closed, and I'm awaiting(although not welcoming) all your negative reactions to my post.

Well, since you count alchohol as a drug, I suppose I don't stay away from drugs, so there.
Tried some hash once, didn't do much (granted, I was also very, very drunk at the time, so it is possible that may have overshadowed it).
Most of them I stay away from because either I don't desire their effect (assorted party drugs) or because it is too much of a hassle with the illegality (hash, psychodelics).

Also, there's not too much wiggle-room in my budget.

I don't because I have no reason to.

Also, everyone I meet under drug/alcohol influence is an unnerving twit, which is something I'd rather not be.

One very good and very simple reason, I respect my body and don't see a need to put something that I don't have a need for and that messes with my head and other functions of my body. I will admit I have a drink once a month but that's about it. I had an ex friend us weed every fucking dad and binge drink at parties, also he was 18, and he was annoying as hell. He'd always tell me tho shut up about pot because I've never tried it so what do I know, that's another thing that drives me away from drugs. I don't want to be like him.

I have never done drugs and do not plan to. First of all, they're bad for me, second of all, a good lot of them are illegal, and third is the stigma. They say that you should never judge a book by its cover, which is a ridiculous saying since unlike books, human beings have a certain degree of control over their covers. A human being who cannot live with themselves while sober is a sad wreck indeed. My life is already awesome without any chemical enhancement.

I've just been inspired by the poll of people saying they don't do drugs, and kudos to you people for standing up for... something....
Thing is, as a recreational drug user myself it is hard to understand why people are so against it.
As such, I wanted to open up this thread for logical reasons why one should not do drugs and I'll see if I can respond to them.
Just so we're clear, alcohol is a drug as well. If you tell me you don't do drugs but you occasionally drink, you are a recreational drug user just without the stigma of being one.
Well, I used to be a fairly enthusiastic weed smoker, but it started giving me panic attacks so I stopped. The anxiety it caused is now manageable but has pretty much stolen years of my life where I haven't been able to work or even enjoy simple things. Sure, it won't trigger mental health issues in everyone, but if someone has an underlying predisposition then it will inevitably trigger it, even if that person would otherwise have lived their whole life without it actually manifesting. That's why I don't use recreational drugs and never would.

The unfortunate fact of the matter it that drugs are illegal for a reason. Unfortunately, drug users often mistake government exaggeration about the risks of drugs for outright lies. Newsflash, a single E won't always kill you, but the likelihood of it doing so is high enough to justify the illegal status. I even once saw a leaflet that was circulating around the group I used to smoke with that claimed that the government was gaining money from restricting marijuana use and taking a cut from columbian drug dealers after they sell it at higher prices on the black market. Seriously, the justifications that drug users will come up with to convince themselves that their chosen vice is actually safe are often frankly ridiculous.

I'm by no means a 'if the government says so, it must be true' kind of person (in fact I research any prescription I'm given and make an educated decision based on that information), but when it comes to illegal drugs they're usually right.

Recreational use, like once or twice a week, isn't that bad to me. I see it true with everything, smoking, drinking, weed, whatever. I don't do it do to the fact that it is illegal, so its not worth it to me, whether the laws surrounding it are sound or not. If they made weed legal tomorrow, maybe I might have one or two a month, but I can buy beer anytime I want and I hardly ever drink that.
