Meh, I think the only truly amazing things that came out of the 360 was the stuff on XBLA, and most of that is stuff you can get on other consoles now and Steam.

Yes, I liked the original Gears of War, even 2 a little... couldn't stand more then an hour of 3 and won't touch the new one even if someone payed me. Halo is also getting tired as well. It's been how many years now, and it still hasn't become the epic sci-fi war shooter it was promised to one day become? Were are the games with more then 16 players? (64 player Halo games would be ORGASMIC) Where are the drivable pelicans dropping dozens of allies onto an enemy base? The giant maps we saw in the PC edition with several full warthogs mowing down anyone foolish enough to walk? All of this stuff is more then possible, but they keep playing it safe and have decided to move toward a small, contained game that ultimately ends up dull ala CoD. I have Halo 4 and 343 does jack shit for big team battle and most of the maps I have been getting from the season pass are tiny ones. If this is the way Halo is going to continue, let it sink. It had so much promise, but now it's just the same thing over and over again with prettier graphics each time. That would be more or less fine, if only it got BIGGER each time as well.

They could also end up pulling a Sega, and just focus on publishing the games rather than making consoles to put them on.

When Sony is the only console maker in the next gen that doesn't seem to be actively trying to kill itself, its time to wave good bye to the industry for a few years.

After Dark Souls 2 anyways >.>

Halo is the only IP I care about, so jumping ship is not a massive loss for me. Despite that, if the Xbone were to fail and Microsoft fell out of the console market, it would probably end up selling the IPs to try and off-set the losses. Halo I can actually see being purchased by Sony or Activision for instance, as Bungie has some weight and Activision would be happy to get another big name franchise under its belt.

Hopefully, if they end up exiting the console wars, they'll have the decency to just go to what sega went to after they lost, namedly, continuing to make the games people loved their consoles for on most of the remaining consoles. After all, they'll want to reclaim some revenue and good will in the eyes of gamers.

Mass Effect is owned by Microsoft? That's news to me- do I have to delete my PS3 copy now or something?
I'm more worried about the new exclusives. Ryse looks interesting, and I'm sure there will be more games coming out solely for the XO that grab my attention.

So it looks like the current way Microsoft's going, the PS4 will seize a whole lotta of business from the Xbox. Now, normally I wouldn't have any problems jumping ship from the Xbox to the PS. But there's a problem. Whatever could that be, you ask? Well, I'll tell you.

No doubt there are some of you who will say, "I don't care about those games." And you know what? I wish I didn't either. That's the problem. While I don't want Microsoft to get away with their horrible console decisions, I also don't want some of these IP's to die. That's what I fear. Does anyone else feel the same?
Its probably been said a dozen times and then some, but if the XBone tanks, I doubt Microsoft will close up its gaming studio. Sure, there will be some suffering, but it will most likely teach a important lesson to Microsoft about how to and who to market their games to (that said, it seems the XBone is aimed more at casual gaming and such, so if it doesnt fail , they will continue on that path...) But if Microsoft decided to shut down the gaming division, all the franchise they "own" will most likely go multi-platform or whatnot. Mircosoft could go the dick move and sit on them, but thats not the best choice from a financial view, IMO. If they really do shut down, they would sell the IPs off to make back money and continue in their merry way.

When you put it like that, I hope the Xbone fails! I will likely get those IPs on my PC then, as its windows based!
Yep, Microsoft might actually remember that the PC is a viable gaming platform, and properly support it again.

I fail to see the downside of this :)

You know what? almsot every IP that dies after its spawned a few sequels is a good thing! Push old IP's out of the way to make way for new games instead of constant sequels. Halo was supposed to be finished after Halo 3 and it should have been, Gears of War has outlived its time too, the story has been told time to end it. I'm not going to say its 100% good that every IP they own might die but clearing the way for new games cant hurt.

Their really isn't a downside to losing the Xbox Brand. The only reason it even exists is to act as domestic competition and it has added nothing to the variety of games available to purchase. If anything, the only thing the xbox has done is further promote business money milking practices, while hammering on other industries that helped force developers to think outside of the box. There is a reason that the PS2 had a great library compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360, and it has to do with used games and the rental industry.

Fall of the Xbone will be great with all those IP's just sitting there with limited install base to make money off M$ will have to go back to their roots and develop for PC i can see it now a glorious new age for the PC master race rising from the ashes of the dirty uncivilized often brutal console civil war and there will be an end to poverty and suffering and stuff
Yes, slowly, the master PC gaming race will rise again! The world will be ours for the taking!

Those IP's already died.

Halo 3, Gears 3, and Mass Effect 3 were all the logical ends to their respective series. While I didn't mind Reach, I really lost interest in all of these franchises once they ended. I don't mind sequels. In fact, I love sequels. But when their not even being made by their original developers, it's hard to say that they're still alive and kicking.

You wouldn't be getting this upset about losing these franchises if Microsoft did what they should be doing in the first place; Greenlighting new IPs. If they were smart, they'd stop hoping that these franchises would hold them up. Hell, Halo and Gears aren't even being created by the same studios anymore. Halo 4 was a mess, and I literally haven't seen a thing about that last Gears game.

Sure Mass Effect's getting another game, but it was pretty clear that they series ended with the last game. It's literally them trying to write a story after the apocalypse. You can't really bring in much more tension.

Halo bit the dust (for me) right around Halo 2. You know, when they stopped letting me play it by not releasing 3 onwards on PC. My xbox owning friends tell me that 2 was the peak of the series anyway, with Reach being a notable improvement after 3 and ODST.
Mass Effect is multi-platform.
Rare will probably survive, I'm sure someone will be interested in them and more importantly their IPs. Maybe Nintendo will pick them up again.
Gears of War is okay. I tried playing it, it was kinda fun but didn't really grab me and the story was just laughable. Could not take it seriously. Perhaps Epic Games could actually make an epic game when Gears is put to rest.

I know just like when the Sonic franchise died after the dreamcast. I think it will be fine. A lot of dreamcast game just became part of the xbox when it came out.

I think Mass Effect is actually owned by EA at this point since it went from Microsoft to Bioware to EA or something similar. When it comes to other IPs, I see Microsoft selling off assets before just letting them die. Well I would hope so anyway...Microsoft would have to be really bitter to kill off everything by Rare. Gears, Halo and, Fable however can burn for all I care. Gears wasn't bad, Halo had a good trilogy and Fable...it was full of good intentions.

I'm pretty sure BioWare owns it's own IPs, including Mass Effect.

I don't really understand all the hype about fall of this and untimely demise of that when it comes to the new generation, which is looking even more homogenous than the last one. Most of us are going to end up owning or at least using all of the consoles over the next ten years, and the "console war" isn't even going to last through the first two years. Not to mention, the launch lineup is setting itself up to be the worst of any generation on all fronts, so I foresee sales at an all time low during the early period.

'Coarse, porting to PC is gonna be synch in this generation, so none of it really matters.
