at least they were smart enough to keep the price down (even if it means selling at a loss) as opposed to $500!

So, any counter-arguments?
Well, we can start here. Every console is sold at a loss (with the exception of the Wii, of course).

Second, you say Nintendo has a 'brain and heart'... well they have a heart. But they pretty much shot themselves in the foot with the Wii because after the motion control fad faded away they pretty much had no audience left. Not the touchscreen gimmick if pretty much failing in comparison to the motion control gimmick.

Also, Nintendo really needs a new IP. Just like motion controls, they are now riding on the success of Zelda/Mario/Metroid to sell systems but I don't see that working at all. I know MS and Sony don't have a lot of new IP but considering they make up for it with 3rd party support which Wii U lacks terribly Nintendo has the burden of giving us the IP that nobody else will, something that they have been very reluctant to do for the last decade or so.

Anyways, as anyone who has seen what I've posted on the subject of consoles before, I am a PC gamer. I don't run around and bash people who don't play on PCs but I just don't see anything Xbox and PS offer that I can't get cheaper and better on PC, but the Wii U is the exception. If Nintendo steps up with making new IP than I MIGHT buy a Wii U this gen, everything else I couldn't even give a shit about.

Nintendo has gone on record saying they don't always design games intending them to be the next Zelda or Mario or Metroid or... You get the point. They get an idea, they flesh it out a bit, then they see if it would work in one of their current IPs. If not, we get a new one! That's why Mario can go from stomping goombas to spraying water to flying around the galaxy in a mere 3 games. Also, unlike EA or Activision, they see the benefit of only releasing 1-2 core franchise games per console. Mario gets his name thrown on a lot, but the Wii was the first console in a while to get 2 stand alone Mario games, not counting throwbacks like NSMB.

So they can keep riding those franchises as long as they want so long as they make the game play fun and the world interesting. I was barely able to set the controller down my first time through Twilight Princess, I had to know if Midna would live, what the story arc for the kidnapped kids would be... I mean yeah, obviously it would all work out in the end, it's Zelda, but it was that gripping. At least for me. Wind Waker had the same thing with your sister being kidnapped, Majoras Mask had all the little people going about their lives, and you were actively a part of them. If you can't tell, I'm something of a Zelda fanatic. To the point that I have the Hylian Crest tattooed on my arm. There aren't many things that I care that much about, but Zelda games are one of them.

I used to be a huge Nintendo fan when I was young. I dropped out of the loop a bit when the Wii came out because it couldn't hold my interest. The Wii U is in a similar same boat. However, I have been in love with my 3DS XL since I got it (Mostly due to Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, and Monster Hunter). They've won back my love so I've got no beef with them.

OT: They are certainly the most tame company when compared with these recent rumors surrounding the new consoles and that's just fine by me.

I really don't think Nintendo alienated their core. The respect the HELL out of their core, they will do most anything to keep them happy (Mother franchise being the exception that proves the rule). Who they alienated was the 3rd party which they always had trouble tapping. The people who left Nintendo during the Wii days were devolopers who felt the wii had little to offer. This is changing with the Wii U. The fans will go were the games are and the U is trying it's damnedest to attract the 3rd party. With all the bad press surrounding the PS4 and neXtBox they might succeed.

Nintendo fans rare? God no, I think Zelda is only topped by My Little Pony in terms of fanart and I say that because there's Zelda & Link as MLP. The fandom is huge, and irritating.

I don't like Ocarina of time, you have any idea how many times I get to hear a lecture on why it was amazing? I didn't like it when it was out, and I don't think time has done it any favors. However Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are both far more interesting (to me). Point standing, I can't even say I personally didn't like a game without being lectured. If I said any other non Nintendo game wasn't for me, totally passed over.
I knew someone who didn't like Mario but would never say it because he knew he'd get mauled by half his friends or the net, he's probably right too.

Honestly the new Mario Bros games are so lazy it's insane, first game they couldn't put peach in because they didn't want to animate her dress. Okay, well, 3 games later she's still not in and it's the same two toads instead of any other character. Why? Because they know you'll buy it anyway.
Honestly I think any love of a game company makes no sense, love games? Sure but a company is just there to get your money for the most part.

You know this... how? Seriously, have you seen all the release schedules for all the unreleased next-gen console games?

Wii U is already sharing titles with the PS4 like Watchdogs and Asscreed IV. Sure, they're on 360 and PS3 as well. But we already know it has support for engines like Cryengine 3, I'll be damn surprised if someone doesn't get it running UE4, and the only reason EA don't seem to want to get Frostbite 3 on there is because Nintendo wouldn't let them put their Origin bullshit on the Nintendo network, and now they're throwing a strop as a result.

I'm also always intrigued by people who say that no Nintendo games intrigue them, as if Nintendo is merely a genre in itself. I mean, it's not as if Nintendo games cover platforming, action-adventure, strategy, racing, fighting, role-playing, sports sim and space sim genres. Whether or not you want to actually buy a system for those games is another matter, but people who say that not a single Nintendo game appeals to them just strikes me as weird. It'd be like me saying I enjoy Universal and Warner Bros films, but I don't enjoy Columbia films, even the acclaimed ones.
i know this because severe hardware inferiority of WiiU. 3 core CPU, 1GB of RAM for games? it's a double of this gen but still no 8GB of PS4
I doubt next gen multiplatform games will scale down to WiiU well just because huge difference in power.
Plus Nintendo never had been good on 3rd party so i don't trust them just look at wii IMO only games that were worth getting wii for got released at the end of wii life (Operation Rainfall J-RPGS).

Believe it or not but not single Nintendo games of any genre has appealed to me. Maybe because of that annoying mario everywhere or design itself, but i could never get in to any Nintendo game and probably never will.

My friend got a wii so i tried Mario Cart that was dumb i much rather race real cars. Tried Galaxy thing got bored very quick. Tried skyward sword was fighting with game all the way, didn't like lack of choice how to control the game and didn't like story and characters.

Only game i loved on wii was xenoblade but there is no way i buying wii only for 1 game so i ended up buying the game and playing it on Dolphin.

I love Nintendo and their old school approach. They produce interesting consoles and fun games. Not a lot of bullshit.
The Wii U will pick up in time, I'm sure of it. Without a focus on high-end graphics or hardware, costs can be kept down, which will attract smaller but unique developers. At any rate, the 3DS is the place to be right now. Fire Emblem Awakening, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate(also on the Wii U), Devil Survivor Overclocked, Ocarina of Time, and the entire DS library. Not to mention, Pokemon X/Y, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Soul Hackers to be released later this year.
Not to mention the just relesed Luigis Mansion 2 which is amazingly fun.

OT: Nah I like NIntendo, I have a Wii U, it's pretty fun for the most part. I need to pick up Lego City Undercover so that my library will grow to 4 whole games :p not including the stuff from the virtual console sale/promo thing. I hope it starts to get titles soon, Nintendo really needs to get it's first party content flowing and try get more indies on board.

SquareEnix, WB Interactive, Ubisoft, Namco, D3 Publisher, and Capcom have all published exclusive games for the Wii U. As for upcoming games, "Watch Dogs" and "Assassin's Creed IV" will be for the PS4 and Wii U (and the Xbox 360, so I guess the PS4 isn't next gen either). So it isn't just "next gen Nintendo games, which don't count LOL". It just happens to be currently overlapping with the previous generation. You'll have to forgive the reasonable business practice of releasing multi-platform games.

You don't want the best rated games? Well, you can go on and have second best. While you're stuck with Need For Speed and Darksiders, those of us that know what we're doing will be playing Zelda and Mario Kart. But what's this? The Wii U allows us to play Darksiders AND Zelda? You can play the "darker and edgier" copy-cats and the superior games they were inspired buy on one console! Is there really a down side to this?

"those of us that know what we're doing will be playing Zelda and Mario Kart" that's most aggro fanboyish statement i have ever read.
Now read this http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/all?view=condensed&sort=desc and tell me again how Nintendo have "best rated games".

oh and
Mario Kart Wii metacritic score of 82, Mario Kart 7 = 85

Forza Motorsport 4 metacritic score of 91

It seems that Nintendo fans in this day and age are an endangered species.
Not really, it only seems that way because we are a smaller group compared to larger demographics that have entered gaming. I don't think Nintendo's fans have dwindled in numbers. For every 80s/90s Nintendo kid who might grow up into a typical xbawks gamer, they gain 5 young kids new to gaming. There is a reason Nintendo is still one of the big 3.

I also think Nintendo made some recent blunders with the wiiU, like releasing it with only 1 system seller(Mario wiiU), and not even a stellar one at that given their better track record. I stand by my original post saying that all three of the big wigs are riding the short bus this console war. But I do agree that Nintendo is the most appealing so far. It will have price, backwards comparability and being able to work offline going for it. All of those things are INFINITELY more important then graphics in the grand scheme of things.

Those are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GENRES so why are you comparing a Kart Racer with a Racing Sim? I hate to use the old saying, "that is comparing Apples to Oranges" so I won't. Instead I will say that it is like comparing Oak and Plywood. Sure, techinically both are "wood", but they are two completely different kinds of wood. Just like Mario/Forza are both racers, but two completely and wildly different kinds of racers.
I think you're missing the point, apparently you can only play the "original" and "best" games on Nintendo's consoles as "those who know what they are doing" will attest to.

Is there even a sim racer on the Wii/WiiU?

Developers don't seem to have a problem scaling back games for the PS3. Yes, they have to scale back for the MORE POWERFUL CONSOLE. This is because the PS3 hardware is locked behind some sort of mystic gates or something. This isn't just me blowing smoke, an actual developer said this on "Extra Credits". The Wii U has a ton of multiplatform games because it is easy to develop for. This fact will not magically change once the PS4 comes out.

Yes, because metacritic is right about everything.

"[Skyward Sword] is the greatest Zelda game ever created. It's the best game for Wii and one of the finest video game accomplishments of the past 10 years."
~Richard George, IGN

"How apt that this ultimate tale of hero-making should see Nintendo?s hardware become the console it was always meant to be."
~Edge

"Nobody could argue that it's anything less than a masterclass in the art of crafting video games."
~The Guardian

Actual professionals at rating video games have rated this game higher in general than other games of the generation, even Arkham City and Skyrim. It has been awarded Game of the Year over 10 times. So yeah, I think anyone who passes on the Wii U is going to miss out.
and now you crying about scores and how metacritic is false because you beloved Nintendo not in number 1 and that there is plenty of games that have very high scores that are not on Nintendo platforms? YOU brought the "best rated" first not i. Metacritic is respectable source of professional reviewers reviews to be averaged and condensed in to a score. i'm not going to waste my time talking to you anymore, your obnoxious fanboy attitude is making my head hurt.

Sony and Microsoft seem to be in a competition of who can make the dumbest decision for their consoles
And you lost me right there. Let's see what awesome decision's Nintendo's made:

They stuck with cartridges when nobody wanted them.
They used mini discs when nobody wanted them.
They added a handle to their console.. because... Nintendo consoles are portable?
They refused to enable DVD playback on their DVD enabled Wii
They tied all digital purchases to a single console, not a user account.
They removed Backward Compatibility, Internet connectivity and Component Video from the Wii Mini.
FRIEND CODES!
That's all the time I've got right now, sorry.

"Maybe the Wii was a gimmicky fad, but at least it had the decency to cost less than half the PS3 did."

Well duh, it was run by a hamster in a wheel. Should have cost a tenth of what the PS3 did.

People like Nintendo because they liked them when they were kids, that's about the thrust of it.

After getting a Wii U during the holiday season and playing it for awhile, I feel the console is a solid platform regardless of its hardware. If Nintendo can push out some really polished exclusives and release more virtual console games, I'll feel happy with my purchase. As of now however, I feel unsatisfied with it. I'm okay with waiting due to the fact that I play on my PC primarily, but I'm really wanting to get my hands on another exclusive that's fun and interesting. Maybe I'll pick up Lego City Undercover.
