Why is everyone so up-in-your-face about their beliefs?

The theory of the big bang is just as unbelievable as there being a celestial omnipotent superbeing constantly governing over us, because according to the theory of the big bang, there was nothing, and then from that nothing exploded everything. Let's not forget that nothing is the absence of something, and everything cannot explode from nothing.

Eventually, it all comes down to having to explain how something came from nothing, and everyone screws up there.

I live in a small town with a few surrounding small villages, most of which are heavily religious. The problem at school was that a majority were Christian students and religion featured heavily. In assembly, in lessons, presentations and even just break times I was surrounded by Christians. I was even friends with some, but others fell out of my favour for being so damn preachy. I can't remember one example where I started an argument with one of them, but I can remember my Religious Education teacher telling me to "denounce my ways less I be marked a heretic and burn in the fires of hell" (seriously, I paraphrased right there).

I've just had bad experiences with religious types, Christians specifically.

Honestly? I blame the Internet. Now that we all have Facebooks and web forums to talk about our opinions on in public instead of being limited to discussions with our friends, we all think that our opinion matters, and that other people should hear them. Before, nobody gave a shit what some schlub thought about anything; these days, however, that schlub feels entitled to be listened to and taken seriously, whether he deserves it or (much more likely) not.

Ummm... insecurity? Yeah, that's it. :)
Insecurity in ones beliefs. So.... if a "believer" make me believe what he believes, he gets to sleep peacefully at night, cause he is not alone in this world in his ways. It's a way to look for affirmation, to confirm that what one believe or do is right.
A self-confident persona NEVER looks for outside confirmation of it's own points of view. Because when you have the experience for something you have achieved it by yourself, from your own reality you have drawn the conclusion, hence your point of view, then you don't need the world to constantly tap your shoulder that you are right. But if you fear you may be wrong, you constantly need to reaffirm that you are right. And this is where annoying other people comes in handy.
I personally call those people "screamers". Cause the lack of security of what they do in life screams. But... so is life.

Y'know what I've noticed?
When a Christian meets an Atheist, it instantly turns to who's belief it the right one.
The Atheist begins talking about the science and the "false hope" and such, you know the drill.
Another thing. Why must a Homosexual pull out the rainbow flag? It's like their just asking for the attention. It can't just be: "I'm gay." It has to be "I'm GAAA-HAY-HAAAAY! And all you folks can eat it. Sodomy time!" And then, the protesters have to come out on streets and start shouting at passer-bys.

WHY? This could all be avoided if we could just shut the hell up about it, or at least respect it. Why jump out on the street and yell, "I'm [BELIEF} every body! SUCK IT!"
Never met a single homosexual who acted like that, but okay.

Its somewhat good to be in each others face, means people know what they're dealing with or arguing against, atleast hopefully so. If people stick to themselves you just end up with a whole lot of tention/unwarrented hate/blame stuck to each group.

I think you are confusing "acting gay" with "in-your-face gay".

Acting gay, e.g. hanging out with girls more than guys, having a feminine face, liking feminine things.

in-your-face gay, e.g. when you meet them they say, "Hi, I'm Pablo. I'm gay. And you are?"
That's still not really in-your-face, I really don't see anything wrong with that.

because inevitably, one belief is correct and the other, incorrect. Always. Period. People who go about shouting theirs simply want it to be their own.

This is the internet. Everyone else is wrong.

And if you agree with me? Well you're still wrong. Which also makes me wrong.

Which means you're a troll who's worse than Hitler.

Tis the way of things.
I like the cut of your jib, sir. Well said, however incorrect.

I guess I'm lucky everyone I know is either non-believing or actually nice and respectful (like that person :D) and since I rarely spend much time with people (with the exception of a few) in real life, and everyone here is pretty respectful I can honestly say I don't think I've ever met someone who's "in-your-face" with their belief. EVER. Lucky me! :D

Not much more needs to be said indeed. (Well, that sentence had horrible syntax. Oh well!)

The reason you think everyone is up in your face is because those are the ones you'll notice. Most gay people are pretty quiet about it, and don't draw attention to their sexuality, like everyone else. You just notice the loud ones.

Same goes for atheists/christians/whatever.

People are afraid that their beliefs may be complete trash...

So when confronted with an opposing view point, they have to prove that they are right so they can feel safe...

To me it sounds like you haven't put any effort into understanding the prevailing big bang theories. I can't blame you, it deals with quantum mechanics and quantum mechanics are a huge ***** (even for those who 'understand' it), but you really should read up on it.

And if our options are having a beginning or having an infinite past behind us, we still have zero need for a god to explain either situation we find ourselves in, do we?

That's not true. That's just the people you notice, because they are in your face about it. I know Christians who don't preach to others and gays who are just guys who like guys, not overly feminine dragqueens. I myself am an atheist who accepts both of these things and doesn't try to force them onto anyone. I do have very interesting talks with the Christians though, I like the whole Christian mythology thing, we can have whole talks about the bible. Specifically Genesis and Revelations, those are the best parts.

I don't bug people about their beliefs, and if they try to start something about differing beliefs I promptly ignore them/change the subject. My philosophy on the matter is I don't care who or what you believe, as long as you don't push it on me. You can be anything you want, it's the joy of being an individual.

I DO dislike when they try to say mine is wrong, at which point I usually point out the flaws of theirs, rather then defend mine.

In my opinion it's the people who see themselves as the most victimized that scream the loudest.

Gays feel victimized by the non-gay community and Atheists feel victimized by non-Atheists. I've never met them in real life, but online and especially on The Escapist they're alive and kicking.

I'm pretty similar, except for when they make comments that blatantly don't make any sense. If a Christian said to me they'd been to Church at the weekend, I'd ask them how it went. If one started telling me about bits of the Bible as though they were fact, I would be compelled to ask them to explain it.
I don't try to dissuade faith, I try to understand it. Like, why is homosexuality so immoral? So far the only excuse I've heard is 'It says so in the Bible'. That is not justification, nor evidence.

My big problem though is I demand to hear an explanation a little aggressively, so people immediately put me down to being one of those atheists.

I have never seen homosexuals do that. In fact, nobody in my school would admit if they were gay, and I know a few. Where the hell do you live? Or do you find these people on the internet, which is the only place where I ever find militant Atheists? I also never find homosexuals "pulling the flag" online.
