Why is Pokemon frowned apon?

Every time I see Pokemon brought up in a discussion, people always say that it sucks. I've been gaming for 10 years now and I have to disagree. Sure there's a lot of rabid 8 year old fanboys, but when you break it down it's actually a very fun game series.

Because people see it as childish because of how aimed at kids it is, i still play the original pokemon games and some of the newer ones and when people ask what im playing and i reply pokemon the response is always "pokemon!? are you 8 or something".

In short i completely agree with you that it is a good game and just ignore the people who put it down

I liked Pokemon about 11 years ago back when it was cool, everyone played it, talked about it and loved it. Yet like all fads its gotten stale, old and it smells bad.

Because if you're older and playing a game considered to be a kids game you might look like an idiot. I draw cartoons and comics so I really don't care what people see me playing.

Well the new pokemon suck and the anime isn't helping either. That might be the reason.

Pokemon isn't frowned upon, as it's one of those things that most people who consider themselves gamers either played it at some point or still are in secret. It's just got to the point with pokemon where the younger gamers don't want to admit to playing it because it's no longer 'cool', and the older ones don't want to because of embarassment as it is considered a child's game, which is a shame because it really can be a tactical game if you play against other, human, players.

Edit: - And I freely admit to running and playing in Pokemon Tournaments at conventions Wish I could get a hold of the manga though...

Becuase it's a childish, old game boy/cartoon fad that tends to draw in the most pathetic people that walk this planet?

Just because some of the people who like it are sad doesn't necessarily mean that it sucks.

And, yeah, it's partly because of the anime, partly because people don't think anything that was good when they were young can still be good, and partly because today's youth are too damn hip to think that anything popular can actually be good. Quit trying to be so indie and give something new a try.
