In my opinion, I frown on it because the gameplay is repetitive and boring, the plot is nonexistent, and the 20-something sequels are all basically exactly the same.

Because it has cute little creatures. Nevermind the fact that the games are basically cock-fighting simulators, but because its creatures are adorable it is childish. And as any 'hardcore' gamer will tell you "Kiddy games suck".

I guess the problem is that people think it's too "kiddy", or some other stupid statement.

And I personally liked the anime, but then it got all boring and repetitive, so then I dropped it and moved back to the games.

Me and my friends JUST started collecting pokemon cards again, from scratch in a bid to see who has the most money to burn and who can make the bets decks (yes we play TCG). We know it's childish and rather sad but hell it makes us happy. Then again I suppose I'm lucky to have friends like mine if the people you speak to are so close minded.

It is a rather childish franchise, but the games themselves are awesome and for all ages. So I hold onto that if someone calls me 12 =D

And I'm sure if it weren't for nostalgia, I would vomit watching the anime. It's just painful at times.
This.

I can only watch the first season. After then, nausea sets in.

Pokemon doesn't fix what isn't broken. It's probably timeless.

The show however, sucks.

I think i know the reason for this treachery.
Many who say it sucks are people who played it and loved it themselves. Eventually, they got older, and noticed that the younger generations also were enjoying this game. Im sure that some kid or another got annoyed with sharing his/her favourite game and started the rumour that its childish, so that everyone who was older just couldnt play it without looking like some childish buffoon. And so, the creators starting altering the game so that it fit the younger generations. Thats why some of the new ones are tedious at best. I still love the old ones, i always loved them, i also enjoy the recreations of the old ones, which makes me so ashamed, that there was a time where i said pokemon sucks. ive seen the error of my ways by replaying the game and loving it still, now i defend anyone who plays that cult classic.

I believe I live in one of the lucky places, then. People at my school love Pokemon. They won't hesitate to break out in song (the theme song). I see many people with Pokemon shirts. I think my school is both awesome and sucks at the same time...

This reminds me, me and a group of friends piled into the car and drove to town to see 9 (great movie) last weekend and we found ourselves being magically lured into the nearest Gamestops and look around. My 17 year old friend bought a Pokemon game for the gamecube, the rest of us kept a respectful distance as he bought it, least that it look like it was for one of us.
I'm not sure why it has that stigma really, I don't consider it just a kid's game. Espcially some of the older ones, the newer ones might be a little more kid-centric.
But how should I know anything about Pokemon games? I never had one as a kid.

Pokemon is great IMO, but my soical life is fragile enough as it is and the only privacy i get is when i am in the shower or taking a poop so I cannot really play it without my home-life going to shit as well (my brother enjoy tearing at my soul, although he doesn't succeed it is still really annoying).

I haven't played any of the recent ones though because I do not have a DS (I am getting one for my b'day (near christmas) so I can have scribblenauts so i will probably get it then as well) but Ruby and Sapphire kind of felt like they were messing with an already good game and not exactly succeeding. I mean they kept the time concept from gold/silver but they didn't actually have night-time which made it more fun as rare pokemon were not as rare but you just had to know WHEN to look for them as opposed too WHERE. If they did a game exactly like Gold/Silver (no pokemon contests) but with a whole new set of pokemon then I would totally get it but I never really got into the whole battle tower and pokemon contests thing, it just ruined the game for me.

There's a number of problems with your argument. First of all, you shouldn't ever complain because a long running series doesn't change core mechanics. Why SHOULD they change leveling or overhaul the battle system? Second of all YES the enemy and story have changed, not that either is the point outside of Colosseum and Gale of Darkness. Oh and moves have been altered, dropped, and adjusted, and added many times.
1) Core mechanics. They could have at least ried to experiment with different mechanics or altered them. There are several long-running games where changed core mechanics have brought several improvements. The counter is also true, but one would expect some change over the years. Just look at Doom-like FPSs: almost no change to core mechanics has resulted in pretty much all FPSs being interchangeable with one another when it comes down to it. Sometimes someone else tries something new and suddenly it invigorates the series or genre. Is it so bad to expect and in my mind even require some kind of development over the years?

2)The only major change to the moves system came in the 2007 games. Okay, so now thay are classified as either physical or special. Whoopdyfrecking do. Oh, and not only the pokemon's statistics affect the effectivness of the move, each move has it's own stats which affect the outcome. Okay, this is a major change how? You just add a bunch of numbers identical to the pokemon's stats, based on the move, to the actual stats before calculating the damage or result. This is like the dual-fighting system: take what is there and copy it.

Oh, Oh, and let's not forget the Pokemon Abilities! Species-dependand, they can have a variety of effects such as causing status ailments (wait, aren't status ailments present in the first games...?) or power up it's own stats (Wait a second, Why am I thinking of Metapod and Harden?). Annnd...? Oh yeah, give resistances! But wait, wasn't that the core of the entire elemental-system? One element has resistance against another element and it all goes round like a cartwheel.

Same goes with moves. Give them new animations and a different name and suddenly Tackle becomes Bitchslap-punch and Lighting becomes Firepillar Of Doom.

Heck, the battle-screen even looks the same.

And I'm not even going to go into the copy-paste stories of defeating the evil bad guy of an organization or defeating gym-trainers until you get to the master and get merit-badge for defeating him.
