My take on the disliking is the repetition, there's only so many times you can "Catch 'em all!" and beat all the gyms, defeat the elite four, the battle tower or any other system which is basically "You beat me, another, stronger guy takes my place until we run out of guys."
It's a formula that's remained entirely unchanged, even with the addition of doubles battles, which is still just as repetative.
I thought the newer pokemons were really repetitious as well. Then I started breeding pokemon. Introducing pokemon with moves that contradict their type was awesome. I also started fighting online and realized how unbelievably small time I was. It also made me realize that there was some strategy involved in the fights as opposed to the "Overpower/exploit your enemies weakness". It opened up a new level of playing for me.
I mean hell, they're even releasing re-makes of better, older ones. Which is worth getting for the sake of graphic improvement upon a classier game.
As for searing hatred, that shit is just not understandable in the least.
or for all of the new mechanics they add in. You know, because they are building on a nostalgic background with some new and interesting ideas.
Aka, I love the pokemon games and can't wait for HG/SS.
Of course, I was 9 when it first came out, they kind of had me hooked for life. kind of like what Nintendo did to those kids that started gaming on the nes or snes with mario.
Side note: I don't watch the anime, that shit is terrible. If there is any hatred for pokemon, it is likely directed at the 4kids love and happiness anime.
Well, yeah, I like the new mechanics, as I mentioned with the "I favour gameplay progression" thing, so I thought it wasn't worth mentioning twice. xD
I've never been one to bother playing Pokémon games online, then again, with the newer ones I never really stayed interested, beyond repitition there was also the over-abundance of new and ridiculous pokémon they decided to shovel in. I mean Gold and Silver was about the necessary amount for me, which is why I might even consider buying the remakes, but once it went beyond that, it was too much for me to keep a handle on.
I mean how many times must the proffessors have looked like chumps?
"Oh there are only X amount of Pokémon in the world on current record... Oh but if you go directly east of your hometown there's about 100 more We must have just overlooked!"
That's more or less going by the anime standards, but for some of the later titles of games it stays true.
Really, I just prefer to stick to the ones I love until they decide to make them better, and until the new gold and silver come out, I'm just gonna stick with my Fire Red.
Oh, off topic, kinda... But anyone who wants a more indepth interpretation of the Pokémon anime series, should give this a read.

Trust me, it'll either change your perspective on the show, or just ruin your childhood completely.
