Two Words:

"Anime Adaptation"
It was a game first numb nuts!

It is an awesome game. If you owned the concept to it you would be mad not to franchise the hell out of it!
If you're gonna dismiss Pokemon just because Pikachu is cute and you resent the fact that a child might want to watch a cartoon about his adventures and buy a cuddly toy of it, that makes you an arsehole!

Most teenagers are too overly concerned about how liking Pokemon might affect their image. It's fair enough, kids are bastards. If they can get over it and accept stuff like that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things (when you get older) they will discover a really immersive and engaging RPG.

People have talked about the the repetition issues. That's kind of true I guess, but look at it like this: when you buy a football game, it is just the same game. Football doesn't change! You can tweak the presentation, and make sure the details are more refined, but you can't change the concept of football. It's the same with Pokemon fighting. There are rules on how you can engage them. It is deceptively simple, but the reality is the the micromanagement and level of detail involved can lead to infinite possibilities, to the point where it's almost frightening! Take a look at http://serebii.net to see what i mean. It can't really ever change, and that's not necessarily a band thing. If you get bored of it, it's time to find something else.
Not sure what you meant by "numb nuts."

I know that it was a game first and agree that the games are awesome, I meant that the anime ruined the game's ability to be respected in the eyes of the mainstream public (Not because it was for kids/young teens and thus had less mature material than other shows/cute characters/less gritty storylines (I'm fine with all of those things), but because it was so badly written. The dialogue was horrible (As was the voice acting, especially in later seasons), the scenarios were usually ridiculous, even within the context of the show (again, especially in later seasons, they must have jumped the shark over thirty times), and there are far too many repeated phrases (a.k.a. Dora the "Explorer" syndrome), instantly sealing off all hope of it being taken seriously, even by kids ("To protect the world from devastation..." anyone?). I have no problems with the game or Pokemon in general, all I mean is that the anime is the reason that it is generally looked down upon).

(I apologize for not being clearer on what I was saying, I was trying to keep my reply simple. I'll extend it a little bit "The anime adaptation is what ruined the series in the eyes of most of the population, I personally don't give two ****s about the anime, know that the games are solid, and think it's unfair for the source material to be judged for a poorly executed adaptation, but, unfortunately, that's how the world works.")

Because they have been using the exact same core mechanics, camera, and battle system as the first game in 96', whereas now the mechanics are tedious, the camera and animations is ugly, and the battles are slow, boring and unfair.
I see your repetitive argument and raise you the halo series, the call of duty series, and warcraft.

Also, pokemon is pretty awesome.
Yes, but first off, those were brilliant mechanics to start with, and only got better as each series' went on, and secondly, the first of each series in your list was 2002-2004, (unless by warcraft you meant the RTS, which owns the MMO by the way.) and were only improved upon, and each one is nearing the end of its life except warcraft. (CoD cant go on forever after MW2, and halo reach was announced as the final halo game,)
Yet, pokemon has been doing the same thing since '96.
Admittedly, while I did have some fun with emerald and pearl even though they are just milkers of the franchise, I hate the battle system with all my heart and soul. Please, please, please give us some real time battle? If they just bring out a proper pokemon game on the wii, I will be happy. Battle revolution and pokemon melee dont count.

We all have moments when we get sucked into a pretty "meh" game and instead of siding with everyone else and not admitting that you just wasted 20 or so hours of your life, you try to defend it. We all have our guilty pleasures (for me its dynasty warrior games. I dont know why. Its more repetative than any pokemon game... EVER) but its not about defending it, it's more about playing it. It gives you more of a satisfaction than a thrill. Life's a garden, DIG IT!!! JUST KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!!! And what not. If its a game you like then it doesnt need defending to a mass that doesn't want to get it/understand it.
Ah, the dynasty warrior games. For some reason I got absolutely hooked on the PSP one, even with all its poor level design, horrible textures and models, crappy AI and everything else amateur game reviewers like me bang on about. Theres just something so fun about them.

In its day, Pokemon was more popular than God. It only started to go downhill when the fad wore off and the developers decided that adding another couple hundred extraneous Mons was the way to reclaim their audience. Those two factors don't help its popularity now: it used to be popular, now they're trying too hard.

Also, Pikachu is far too cutesy and happy for any alpha-males to admit to liking.

The games are good, and I liked the original series when it came out but the anime turned rather boring after that in my opinion.

The games are fine, but on the whole, it's a soulless franchise hell-bent on milking parents for every penny they have.
