Anyway there's only five nominees, you can't exactly put every single good gaming site up for nomination.

It's not a bad idea, more like a redundant one. If you just want to see what an unmoderated thread on the Escapist would look like if everybody knew there wouldn't be moderation then I like to think you'd just end up with any other normal escapist thread.

Those that wish to be civil will be and those that wish to be uncivil will do so. The only difference with moderation is that the uncivilised users get either slowly weeded out or they are rehabilitated into civilised users. Any civilised user that resorts to fight fire with fire just end up making the problem worse.

Unmoderated threads would just encourage more uncivilised behaviour from the types that join up and never learn not to.

Why so many new users think being completely uncivilised is acceptable anywhere, either on the internet or not is beyond me. It also serves to give credit to the idea that stricter moderation on internet forums actually makes the internet a more pleasant place to visit. That is most certainly amongst the reasons for The Escapist's moderation policies which I for one am grateful for.

I love the Mods and moderation system of this site; they are great at keeping this place neat and tidy, and keep it from devolving into the chaos of what most internet forms tend to become.

Clearly you haven't run afoul of a mod in a bad mood then.

Its because of people like Extra Credits creating content for the site. You know, all that artsy stuff.

This is closer to the mark, the Escapist has quite markedly shifted it's output in terms of what kind of content goes up, (Out with Extra Credits, in with GinxTV, are you kidding me?)

The fact that Dragon Age 2 got a perfect review here, how the review of ME3 ignored anything regarding the ending (Sorry Susan, but you completely skipped it), probably gets into the mix as well.


And hey, they've won a few times before, let's see what the rest of the internet that laughs at this website has to offer. TE might be back next year.

Good lord, you have a lot of posts without warn level.

Well, I did get one warning a few months before the forum life bar was instituted, though it wasn't for anything extreme.

There was a political thread where somebody mentioned something that was a little off topic, so while I also commented on the topic, I also quoted that somebody and started to put my two cents into explaining how what he said wasn't true.

When I really get into explaining things, I take my time and write out a thorough response. The problem was that while I was doing that, unknown to me, a Mod had come into the thread and stated that from then on nobody was to quote and discuss what that somebody had brought up because it was too far off topic, and if people did people would get warnings. So, without knowing that, I finished my response and posted it. Then saw the Mod note, then got a warning for my comment.

No biggie. Then when the life bar came into existence, I had one green notch until the next month, then it got taken away because it had been so long since that infraction.

It really isn't that hard to keep on the good side of the forum Mods. Show all people respect, even if you don't like their view points, and don't cause a ruckus and you will be fine.

Clearly you haven't run afoul of a mod in a bad mood then.

I can't say I've ever seen such a thing. I'm the type of person that looks to see what each person gets, warned, suspended, or banned for, and I've never seen one that wasn't warranted.

All in some way can be lead back to violations of the codes of conduct of this site.

Seriously, in the last year it's come out that The Escapist didn't pay many of it's employees, they went through a horrible redesign so bad it caused headaches at first and they've had some awful business ideas. Why anyone thought they'd get nominated this year is beyond me.

Wow, thanks for the laugh. The vast majority of what I read there is blown universes out of proportion or blatantly wrong.

I read through and checked all the links to the things they said were crazy because people got Mod wrath because of their comments.

Everyone of them was perfectly legitimate, because the poster wasn't following the codes of conduct of the Escapist.

They said that people get mod wrath for criticizing the Escapist or people get wrath because they are on the "wrong-side of the argument".....well, of course they do if they go about such things by name calling and throwing insults. Once people resort to such blows, their criticism isn't valid.

I've seen plenty of people criticize the Escapist and how the staff review things, and there posts were left alone, because their arguments were presented in a civil manner. And it doesn't matter if people are defending themselves from a "Troll", in such a situation, people should either report the troll or if they want to make an argument against the troll, they can do it without said name calling and insults.

But in this case, they're right. These forums have gone from mediocre to terrible in the last year or so. I can tell you for a fact that I've received a warning and had a thread deleted for going against the Escapist's hivemind and talking about HL2's negative impact on gaming. The forums have always been strict, but now it's just stupid since you can't say anything new without fear of a warning. The only reason I still go to this site, and I mean the ONLY reason, is for the video content from LRR, Sterling, Yahtzee, and Moviebob as well as the occasional Shamus article. The community are nothing more than fanboy entitled whiners who are incapable of having an intelligent discussion wherein one opinion differs even slightly from their own. I hope they change the forum rules and get some new mods soon, but I don't see the user end of this site being saved any time soon. And yes, I fully expect to get a warning for this.

But in this case, they're right. These forums have gone from mediocre to terrible in the last year or so. If he/she's getting a warning for this I want a warning for backing him/her. Everything they've said there is 100% true. The whole site has changed since I signed up and dear god not all of it has been for the good. Hell to me the only thing they got right change wise while i was here was picking up LRR for more then Unskippable. Everything else can go to hell in a handbasket as far as I'm concerned.
