The third-party support was abysmal so aside from Nintendo titles and a small handful of third-party ones the library is just a load of shitty shovelware and mingames. Plus I'm not a fan of motion controls and they rarely added to the game.

That being said I'm thinking of picking up a Wii and basically just buying all of the good games to come out on it (really wanna play Sonic Colours).

Why no love for the Wii? Because I grew up. And Nintendo stopped growing up with me.

So I guess my reason is less with the Wii and more with Nintendo. I would consider the N64 the last great Nintendo console. It was going strong through my high school years as my taste in games was shifting to more mature titles and the N64 had plenty of games tailored to that. The Gamecube had some solid titles in that area, but less than the N64.

When the Wii came out, everyone was interested in it because of the motion controls, so Nintendo tried to appeal to everyone. You had games like Cookin' Mama and Wii Music coming out constantly which, in turn, made the system seem gimmicky to more mature gamers. Nintendo was capturing a new market, so that's what they focused on.

Now I'm not going to say it's all Nintendo's fault and they abandoned their core fan base because, honestly, the child/family friendly games were always there. They shifted their focus to that area, and I can't blame them for it. They made a boat-load of money. I just wasn't interested in that market, so I moved on.

And I don't see them appealing to me in the future.

It was shit. The controls were useless, it seemed to be powered by a hamster on a wheel and it was defined by shovelware.

Motion controls are useless for gaming, and it couldn't even do them properly anyway.

It's a crappy console. It doesn't have anywhere near the capabilities of the other current generation consoles. The motion control was kinda interesting, but it's buggy as crap and just doesn't work well.

Worse still, all of the wii exclusives are just crappy milkings of old nintendo series.

Really, it has no redeeming qualities.

I enjoy the nintendo wii and it has a relatively strong catalogue of exclusive titles. The problem for me is, you cant have just a wii if your a serious gamer. The Wii just isnt in the same league hardware wise as other 7th gen consoles which means most of the AAA titles have no choice but to bypass the Wii in favour of Xbox and PS.
In addition while i dont dislike motion controls as a concept, forcing it down our throats with every title, especially when many of the games would play significantly better with a controler was a serious dick-move.

-Narrow profile of quality games, compounded greatly by Nintendo's "Disney Image Complex", (which ironically allowed for the proliferation of kiddy-krap shovelware)
-Gimmick controls that add little or nothing to the experience, save possibly frustration.
-Said gimmick controls are often the only thing to distinguish it, so they're the focus

Those are the reasons I don't appreciate mine much, though its one saving grace is that it can play Gamecube titles

I don't think I would like my Wii nearly as much if I hadn't soft-modded it. To me, it's basically a portable console considering I can just grab the console and my HDD and plug it in at pretty much anyone's house seeing as nearly everyone owns a Wii. After modding it I realized how many great games there really were. If my Wii collection wasn't almost entirely virtual, it would be larger than my PS3 collection, which is saying a lot.

Nintendo has always been more kiddie than it's competition. That didn't start with the Wii. You can think back to the Mortal Kombat controversy on the SNES and the Genesis but even before that Nintendo has always tried to keep anything they consider "adult" out of games released in the US.
I just want to point out, that at the time, two things made Nintendo edit Mortal Kombat:

1) Midway was actively advertising the game towards children. The game was clearly not meant to be aimed at children, but they were marketing it to children [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCg7Jt8jNNA].

2) ESRB did not exist at the time.

Sega actively allowing all the bad things in their version of Mortal Kombat, when it was aimed towards children, was pretty irresponsible, and while Nintendo could have done something else instead of censoring the game, it was still pretty responsible compared to Sega's decision.

OT: What everyone has said about the Wii Already: An Idea that was sub-par and only a handful of good games.

However, I am very excited about the WiiU!

Giving us a reason for Nintendo censoring shit doesn't change anything I said. In 1992, every game was marketed to children.

True. Clearly that wasn't a good thing because ESRB had to be created so that Adult game makers couldn't market to children, but your words are true regardless. Still, a little insight is nice ever now and then.

Gamers want bang for their buck, as with something like the 360 or PS3 they're mostly a choice of exclusives; they end up sharing a majority of games between them. But with something like the Wii some people just feel that it's basically a buy in cost for Nintendo's first party games and not everyone is really excited to play another Zelda or another Mario.

[sub][sub]Why does the OP dislike periods and, other forms of punctuation...?[/sub][/sub]

I'm not a full-on Moviebob when it comes to The Wii, actively ignoring it for the first few years of its life cycle but then I've come to realize that it's really the only console that has distinctly exclusive titles. I haven't tried some of the really big Wii exclusives like No More Heroes (yes, I'm aware of the PS3 version Japan has) or Red Steel but out of the other exclusives I've played, I can't really name one I outright hated. Kirby's Epic Yarn and, Donkey Kong Country Returns are my favorite games in their respective series for example and, Zack and Wiki was the most fun I've had in a point-n-click (at least until I played Beneath a Steel Sky).

The lack of HD graphics isn't a deal breaker for me, nor is the lack luster online support. I mostly play single-player games anyway. I've come to really love the Wii even though its on its way out. As for the motion controls, a lot of the later games I've played for it don't require waggling or even motion controls at all (such as Last Story and, Epic Yarn). A lot do but the only game that I thought really suffered from their inclusion was probably Skyward Sword.

Yes, Skyward Sword was unplayable for me because I couldn't get the controls to work right for me and I am sure I am not the only one. It is the first Zelda game to have inaccurate controls but then that is the Wii's biggest problem, the controls are like a downgrade.

Funnily enough, many games required you to use the Wiimote sideways, like an NES controller. We went from the fantastic Gamecube controller back to a NES controller.

It just didn't have enough great games and seemed to have even fewer as the year went on. Saying that I still play the Wii regularly because it seems to be the only system that cares about 4 player local play games.

That's part of why I like the gamecube actually: the NES style controls on many of the games. I feel it worked really well for DKCR and if Metroid Other M was 2.5D it would have made the game...less...universally hated. I won't deny though, that I preferred using the gamecube controller for games like Mario Kart Wii and, Smash Bros Brawl (although in the case of Smash Bros, I preferred Melee to Brawl anyway).

Let me ask you something, what makes using NES controls (Wiimote sideways) superior to using SNES controls (Classic Controller Pro)?

I mean, the SNES controller is superior to the NES controller in every way and in turn so is the CCP superior to turning the Wiimote sideways and Nintendo has us using the inferior controller. It's modern Nintendo, all about gimmicks. Yes, turning a controller sideways is a gimmick, try to imagine if they pulled that shit with the Gamecube controller (turn it upside down to play Mario Kart Double Dash).

I think it all depends on the situation personally. A game like New Super Wii Brothers Mario or, DK Country Returns really doesn't need to use 6 buttons so it was probably easier to not bother integrating the classic controller into the over all game (probably cut production time considerably as well). Metroid Other M on the other hand probably could have done well with a SNES style controller and, something like No More Heroes or Red Steel would likely have done well with the classic controller. It isn't so much about superiority really, more about application. If you don't need to use all of those buttons than why bother with it at all?

Personally I wouldn't choose it as a primary console, but I'm a gamer fortunate enough to afford multiple platforms, so it made a good addition.

I enjoy it for the fact it's an untapped resource, with games like Deadly Creatures.

Admittedly the motion controls are damn annoying on some games, but they make some games great, like Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 3.

Well, NSMB Wii may have played better on the SNES controller (CCP) if it were designed for it. Remember when 2D Mario games had a turbo button?

Looks like the slowpoke patrol just got news back from 2008...

The Wii has plenty of fans, the thing sold more copies then any other game system (aside from maybe the PS2). Certain hardcore fans don't like it because it doesn't have many games for them though and some people have issues with motion control (who the devil would want to hear a movie talk?!).
