I've never personally liked the series. To be honest, I can never finish one to save my life. Maybe it's because there's not enough RPG for my tastes, but it's always been a personal preference of mine. It really takes all kinds.

Quick question though, where the hell is the new one?
Spirit Tracks lands on Dec. 31.

Because it is horrible. It is another great example of Nintendo's suckishness. They release them frequently, the stories suck, most run solely on stupid gimmicks, the gameplay is terrible, and overall: it isn't fun.
A console title released every 4-6 years is frequent?

I imagine that "Aliens/nazis/faceless soldier faction X are invading the earth/US/Fictional country and you are the only one/squad of superheroes/soldiers/mercenaries/ninja pirates that can save it!" is infinitely better.

Really now. Story in games is shitty all around.

Please elaborate on statement "Stupid Gimmicks"

If you don't like the gameplay, fair enough.

I still love it, I just want some variety! And to NOT have Gannon has the big-bad. Majora's Mask was a great example and an excellent direction for the series, but they went right back to the old ways. Darker stories, different items, and different baddies. The repetitiveness is getting annoying.

I still love the series though.
Wait... you don't like repetitiveness, but you like Majora's Mask?

That game was basically a LoZ version of Groundhog's Day.

Personally, that's the only one that I've owned/played that I never beat... And I think the only ones I don't have are the cd-i ones.

Sorry if that was a bit of a personal attack...

People dislike Legend of Zelda? Where did you hear these lies?

Anyway, all kidding aside, if people don't like it, they have their reasons as to why.

People are disliking Zelda? This is news to me. Granted the series must not appeal to everybody, but if there's been some mass Zelda hate going on I've not been aware of it.

It is actually really easy, but I still love the game and plot even though occasionally it's repetitive.

I didn't much like Twilight Princess. But I put a great deal of the blame on the Wii controls. Who is telling you that a lot of people dislike LoZ these days? I don't see any more than usual.

It takes somethung repetitive and turns it into something traditional.

1.If you are looking for a Ninja Gaiden difficulty curve, you will be disappointed. I can't explain why they decided this but it works for me because I prefer my games on the easy side.

2.If you are looking for a different arsenal of weaponry, you will be disappointed. Nintendo will put in a new weapon every now and then but they try to come up with new ideas on how to use the current arsenal. I love the Double Hookshot.

3.If you are looking for blood, scantily clad women, or a hero who talks, you will not like this series. Nintendo will not stray too far from the LoZ formula because it isn't broken. The only people who complain about LoZ are the ones who desire more than Nintedo ever wanted to offer. It is not their fault or Nintendo's. They just changed and now play other games.

P.S. I love how Nintendo appeals to the inner child instead of the outer adult. Most people get so caught in playing mature games they forget how to play just for fun.

i played Oot and haven't played one sense. So the series has stayed amazing in my mind, and not tainted by any other games, good or not.

At least your: ""Aliens/nazis/faceless soldier faction X are invading the earth/US/Fictional country and you are the only one/squad of superheroes/soldiers/mercenaries/ninja pirates that can save it!"" are being developed by a bunch of different developers and publishers.
So what is Nintendo's excuse?

It's raked in billions of dollars and continues to do so even though apparently it's "On the decline"?

Same for the space marines in power armor defending the American Homeland.
But since there are not huge amounts of Zelda clones, and the general amount of poor reviews/outlooks for Twilight Princess should say something.

It's interesting that people say that, since I've yet to see a truly negative review of TP.

Indeed. Of the 73 reviews on Metacritic, the most negative one (some small website nobody has ever heard of) gave it a 7.8. The game also has 23 perfect scores.

People saying they don't like The Legend of Zelda at all either don't want to admit they secretly like it because they don't want to belong to the 'mainstream' or they simply have no soul.

I wouldn't say that. I think it's just the thing to hate on, now that Halo's just getting bigger and bigger.

I love the legend of zelda but there needs to be some serious new ideas.
And the enemies need to be more fun to kill.
Seriously the most depressing thing in Twilight princess was the fire dungeon - before the final boss when the drawbridge falls down adn like ten guys rush farward with swords and stuff. One spin attack, they all die.

I expected a kinda epic small battle there damnit!

I really loved Twilight Princess. It, honestly, was the zelda game I've been waiting for since ocarina of time. Child Link really doesn't light my fire. Adult Link however puts me more in the mindset of more mature concepts. And while Twilight Princess is by no means a Mature game, it was probably one of the darker Legend of Zelda games on the market.

I still own LoZ (NES) on the cartridge, 'cept the battery in the thing died eons ago, so I cannot save. :( I loved and played LoZ, Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Majorias Mask. The 3D Zelda games didn't really do it for me (though OoT was fairly innovative for the time, and was fun for it). But all the kiddy elements that started showing up really started to irk me. Thus, Twilight Princess was right up my ally. ;) (don't even get me started on Cell Shaded Link....)

I wouldn't mind an evolution to the Legend of Zelda franchise. Drop the midi sound tracks, for starters. When I was playing Ico on PS2, I got a very real sense of Legend of Zelda. They could MAKE a language for Link, Zelda, etc to speak, and subtitle it. That'd keep with the current style, and give room for voice acting. Rather than some clown going "BUH?!" and then a series of dialogue follow.

And I can understand why Nintendo is so reluctant to alter or break away from their formula. If it isn't broken, why fix it? LoZ racks in tons of cash. :) Link is an icon. Unlike other icons that have not aged well (Sonic), his popularity just grows.
