I don't really have any strong opinions on consoles. I am a proud 360 owner but I think PS3's are just as good, they just have different pros and cons, and at the end of the day it's down to preference. I do, however, not like Sony for reasons that I think have been mentioned in great detail already. IMO, Sony shouldn't be trying to steal all the ideas Microsoft and Nintendo come up with. I won't care if the PS4 has all the features of Xbox360, Wii and PS3 combined but stealing from they should not be shamelessly taking features that make the current generation of consoles great in their own right. It just seems like cheating to me.

If you imagine a typical Disney-style high school movie where there's some contest involved: Sony is the twat who fancies himself and pisses about all the time but listens in on the other's conversations then takes credit for all their ideas and so everyone thinks he's great. Nintendo is the one that just wants to have fun and enjoy himself, bringing joy to his friends and family in a sickeningly nice way. Microsoft is the smart one who is led astray and starts to stay up all night getting drunk, having to piece together his entry on the morning of the show. As you can see, Microsoft and Nintendo are both quite likeable but Sony is just an arrogant knob.

Though, I do admit that Sony is copying off other companies a bit too much making it a bit too noticable, I have to put up another example of Sony getting all the shit.

For example, M$ is having rumors of making a Wii-like controller for it's system and even a Mii-like avatar for the system. Is anyone calling M$ on that? No, because either A)Nobody Cares B)Everyone will be happy (when HOME comes out) or C)It's Microsoft and not Sony or even D)They arn't copying as much from other companies as much as Sony (as i admit before).

I'd say it's a cross between A C and D, but so far i have not heard anyone say that "Oh, Microsoft is copying off other people's ideas! They're playing catchup!" or anything of that matter.

The point of this questions isn't why some people hate Sony, i know why some people do, it's just that why does Sony get all the shit? Other companies do the exact same thing as Sony but they don't get called out on it but the second Sony does something similar to another company they get critizied for it (though, it's probably because they are doing it a bit more than others as i probably contradicted myself there)

And i'm not sure how to respond to your second paragraph, as that is a bit more of an opinion on how you see the companies and not a general overview. Ah well.

E) There rumors not confirmed and out sorta (2.40)
F) Same rumors are around Sony

more than likely, the hate for Sony (or Microsoft even) comes from consumers who have to rationalize a $300 - $400 purchase for a machine. when you invest that much money into an either/or decision, for most people objectivity goes out the window.

i mean, how much humility does anybody have to actually spend $400 and then say, "wait, maybe i wasted my money?"

i'm pretty sure people that purchased HD-DVDs aren't too vocal about that poor decision.

that being said, these are major corporations and anybody who gets heated over the hypocrisy found within the PR comments of a corporation is nieve at best, and juvenile at worse.

ok that right there this is a wrong statement, m$'s corp policy has been to copy ideas from other ppl and "improve" on them. i could pick a handful of things that ppl say are inovative from m$ but have existed in the ps1/2 or the nintendo systems well before that

so please don't say they copied, cause frankly everyone copies off of everyone else, especially m$

That's exactly my point, everyone else gets away with this but Sony is always pointed at when they do something "innovative"

@shatnershaman: Not sure exacty what the hell kind of game would use half a dualshock controller, but that's the only rumor i've heard from Sony for a while. Plus, how is that copying? Seems a bit innovative to me, 2 controllers in one, don't see how that's copying the Wiimote other than the nunchuck and controller together. And the complaints of $55 rumble controller is really stupid considering you're paying $5 extra for something that you've wanted for something and on top of that you still get motion sensitivity.

Overall though, this thread turned out better than i thought. Nobody's really dueling to the death or being 10 year olds. congradulations, you all get +15 feel good points.

just by people who don't own it. considering the sales figures, that would be a lot.
"Where" not who.
I can feel it in the air. Well, it happens on all the blog posts at places like Engadget and Kotaku when Sony shows us something that seems related to another company. It happens here on the Escapist in the News Room where it recently showed the Life feature soon for the PS3 and a new PS2 for Russia and India as people are critizizing Sony for that. It happens everywhere, even in real life i've had a couple of conversations with my friends and they always complained about Sony being unoriginal and stuff.

ON a side note, in response to the PS3 online lag crap, lag only seems to happen on Multiplatform games on the PS3 and almost never on 1st party games like Warhawk and MGO. INfact, in Warhawk so many things can happen at once i'm surprised i've never lagged before in Warhawk. Just wanted to put that out there.

One of the reasons I think everyone dis-likes sony is Simple...

For 2 generations running, Sony produced 2 of the greatest systems of all time... infact, the top 2 most selling consoles of all time...

Then comes the cumberson PS3 not anywhere near as good as it's predecessors... people were extremely disappointed in it

Yup its a parody of that ring of fire song (don't know the real name of it) done by same guy although to support your "everyone is beating on Sony" there is a PS3 song part 2 (Play.

Instead I'm playing motorstorm 5000 times a day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNh-NPkeAA

EDIT: Aw damn you other things to do you have failed me again by letting Jumplion get the links first at least you can enjoy the Part 2 of the Song :p

I'm shocked and I'm being totally super cereal.

EDIT 3.0 (yes 3.0): I got "How to Kill a Brand" and "Has no freakin games" on my PSP. Irony! (360 song won't convert right)

???

the PS2 had bizarre architecture as well. only it had a lead in the race so developers had no choice but to deal with it.

GameCube also has a bizarre system architecture. it was a basic business move, you make your system so weird that ports or almost impossible or they at least look worse on other consoles. this tactic failed for the PS3 though since Microsft had the lead in this generation.

Microsoft gambled on accessibility, which is why the Xbox's PC-type architecure benefitted from so many quick PC game ports. this gamble also paid off for the 360 since it allowed for shorter development times for PC based games on the console. there was still the hurdle over multithreading 3 core processers (i remember hearing programmers complain about that when the 360 first came out, saying that the linear nature of AI programming is almost possible to execute well on a multi-processor system. and every hardware update would force a re-optimization of the multi-threading)

ironically though, some developers are now developing for the PS3 as the primary sku because it is more difficult to optimize for, and the optimization tricks you use for the PS3 version can be leveraged into the optimization of the 360 version since the 360 is so accessable to program for.

The Almighty Valve do not.
which is fine since their game engine is underdeveloped to work on bottom end PCs in order to appeal to the mass PC market. their games don't even need the extra CPUs.

I just said it because Valve is Jebus in these forums.

actually the 360 uses the powerpc chips that apple macs used before their switch to intel chips.

the ports take a bit because they do have to switch architecture but m$ did make some nice tools for that
