Why the RAGE? It's pointless.

I think it comes down to a difference between how people choose to express or repress their feelings. You shouldn't be at all surprised that a challenging video game can cause a person to feel genuinely frustrated; people will deal with that frustration in different ways. Saying "it's just a game" is an oversimplification-- it suggests that games should not evoke real emotional responses because they aren't "real", which any gamer will tell you isn't true.

I feel you.
Getting hyped and adrenalin pushing through your veins is nice and maybe feeling a bit down after losing a game due to the excitement it gave during the play is a good thing, but then again raging and breaking stuff like keyboards and controllers is just silly.

Because people haven't yet managed to control the primal desire to kill anything that could possible beat (or score more females) than the person in question..

And because American (and anyone else living in a country that sells fast food and doesn't have too much regulation) children are fed food that increases hormonal imbalance therefore making them more unstable..

It is basic human nature to get angry and frustrated when attempting to perform any task and failing repeatedly.

Why do you rage now?
It's quite as pointless.

Anyway...gaming is something we love, when we are betrayed by a glitch or because we were effortlessly beaten by a computer, we can get mad.

That makes us humans.
Anger is a natural reaction to something not working as we want it.
whether it be out fault or the computers.

To say you are a ''mature gamer'' is more a reflection of never being in the situation of losing something you've worked hard for.

Like a safe-file you've worked for 3 straight months on >_<

Can I just point to multiplayer in general and say "yea, because of that"? Well it doesn't matter, because that's what I'm doing anyway.

I get really bad punch the wall style rage if I play a game for too long and I'm stuck! But this is only if I'm tired! Otherwise I'll just give it up and come back later! Certain levels of Black ops were almost impossible on veteran and I know I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much on an easier setting but when you're stuck for an hour on one level just because the designers saw fit to make all of the enemies either uber snipers or "rush up behind you and beat you to death while your friendly AI watches"bastards you wonder how sadistic people can be!!

alright in short-

Why do people rage about games or get mad and break things?
I mean seriously they're JUST GAMES, they have no value or impact on the real world (you know what I mean)and they're supposed to be fun... so why do some people get so mad over them that they act so poorly that 2 year olds say "grow up" I mean like, why do people get so mad about a GAAAAAAAAAAAAME that they'll break things for example.
because some people have a deep passion for games, some people love them... although I doubt these are the people you describe.

oh, and bottling up your emotions can seriously fuck you up... so I guess that's a good reason

Let's get some science in this thread:

Does Venting Anger Feed or Extinguish the Flame? - Brad J. Bushma [https://illinois.edu/lb/files/2009/03/26/9293.pdf]

Conclusion of that paper said:
Catharsis theory predicts that venting anger should get rid of it and should therefore reduce subsequent aggression. The present findings, as well as previous findings, directly contradict catharsis theory (e.g., Bushman et al., 1999; Geen & Quanty, 1977). For reducing anger and aggression, the worst possible advice to give people is to tell them to imagine their provocateur?s face on a pillow or punching bag as they wallop it, yet this is precisely what many pop psychologists advise people to do. If followed, such advice will only make people angrier and more aggressive.
So don't rage out, it wont help you get rid of your anger and you'll just end up with broken stuff.

I've been gaming online since Counter Strike was a beta, yes, ye olde 56k days. And one thing has remained constant to this day. Complaining about weapons in the game. Back then it was the AWP, if you used one you were an AWP whore. Now, many a moon later, that has not changed, look at Black Ops, ive seen people complain about everything, INCLUDING the sam turret. People like to ***** and moan because internet anonimity allows them to be the tought guy they can't be in real life. Blizzard had a good idea with the whole "showing a player's name and home info" thing, it would make all these annoying little kids and egotistic teenagers something to think about before they go cursing someone out.

just like you said, people play games to have fun. and when bad things happen to them, they arent having fun. that causes them to get mad

People get angry about anything, and depending on the person, some people get physical as well.
Take a look at anything that anyone in the world does.

Every gotten angry at something at work? I'm sure the problem could've been fixed, why so angry?
Soccer fans in south america. Your team lost, now your going on a riot. Why so angry?

But obviously most people manage to keep their cool in most situations... otherwise it would be a bit more dangerous around me =p

If I had to make a vague guess, it would probably that people get frustrated because they feel like the game is actively beating them. And if there's one thing people don't like, it's non-sentient objects defeating them at... well, anything.
