I might have worded that last post a bit wrong, the fanboys have been there true but they only started to really "representing" themselves on mainstream on this last generations. Alas I'm too young to remember the Sega genesis/Snes days so I this is based on my older friends and they're usually right about this.
Fanboys have been around for decades now and they have always sucked monkey balls.

You're completely wrong. Nintendo make a profit on every console they sell.
Not only that, but it's the way Nintendo has always done their business. The active trend of selling your hardware at a loss started with the PlayStation 2, unless I'm mistaken. Nintendo chose not to follow it, though, and still created more powerful hardware at a more affordable price... but sadly failed in the marketing department.

Indeed I was, since I was talking about Nintendo's response to the PS2.

I still loved my Gamecube, though.

the wii wins because it caters to a new demographic, which nintendo has coined as the blue ocean demographic (it's actually the name of their marketing stragy, before anyone rushes to correct me). anyway this demographic is supposed to be "everyone" but it's really "anyone who is willing to give us money". with the emergence of dominating consoles that for, the first time scince atari, were not made by nintendo, something had to give. to trust the fanbase of another system to completely change consoles, especially with fanboyism as rampant as it is, is just ludicrous. so, nintendo added motion control, and all of a sudden parents who used to get motion sickness from most video games rush out to play wii sports, and other stuff.

from the competitors side, the 360's determination to be the better experience has although propeled to excell much farther past the PS3 for a great amount of time, has also resulted in a premature release, prompting widescale hardware failures. the solidity of the PS3's hardware, along with the blu-ray compatibility it provides has allowed it to survive microsofts initial onslaught, and now they are consolidating with many console exclusives and an expaned online network to be considered even remotely "losing".

so who is losing? no one really. all three consoles are making their respective companies money, so they all win. considering the wii is making more though, i gueuss you could say it's winning more...
at the expense of the hardcore nintendo fan wading throught a crapload of shovelware and a barren holiday 08...
i just can't seem to finish my rant...

The Wii is part of this console generation, the PS2 is not. The
Wii is competing against the PS3 and The Xbox360 and the Wii is winning.
Well that's because you are arbitrarily comparing consoles by release date. But that still doesn't mean that I get a 720p image off of my Wii. As long as PS2s are still selling at retailers than they are in the race as well.

What gets me is that game developers create great stories, colourful, lively characters, eye catching scenery, jaw dropping animation that can rival any cartoon, movie or television series. And then Nintendo makes a short game about a thing that has as much personality as a stick figure, with bad movement, graphics that look like they were made from a crayon box that stutter and glitch, scenery that looks like it belongs on a first generation PS1 game and it out sells everything. Am I backwards? Does that sound right to you? Is it wrong that I don't want to dislocate my wrists twirling a Nintendo WII controller? Can anyone else see how unnecessary this is? The worst thing about this is that everyone is going to think "Why develop complex games when I can paste together something mind blowing simple like Nintendo and get that fan base too? "Why put my effort into making realistic or high level games when I can just make little green and blue blobs and people will buy it just like Nintendo? "Waste my effort and money to make a game complex then lose money off of unappreciative gamers who nit pick the game to pieces? Then it will be the end of games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 4, God of War or Gears of War. Why invest all that money when you can just do like Nintendo and make just as much money with little effort?

1 The Wiimote is a reason NOT to buy the bloody thing
Atleast it's a new idea. Personally, I like that I can play a game like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 with three varying controllers, and I find the Wiimote more involving than older console apparatus.

2 There are great games in other consoles too. At leasts the other consoles do not alwats thread the same ground over and over again
Metal Gear Solid 4? Grand Theft Auto IV? Fable II? The other consoles do tread the same ground. They might tread it more effectively, but that's another argument altogether. And remember, after all, that the Wii has a lot of third-party titles that are more innovative, if not always better, than regular console fare (Boom Blox, Elebits, Trauma Center, etc).

3 There you are right: it's a cheap piece of crap
I've never been one to complain about low pricetags.

5 Well I think it;s the MAIN reason. Marketing. Showing cute girls playing with the Wiimote like it's a dildo and raising expectations and heartpaces of dumb guys. OK it outsold the other consoles... but WHY most Wii owners now complain about too expensive games, boring games and shitty gameplay? I could throw the graphics too, but since it's cheap I'll let it slide. WHY most Wii owners compalin they have little use for it?
I've never been one to complain about cute girls.

I bought a Wii a while back, and I have to differ with what you're saying: the games I haven't found more expensive than other consoles (infact, alot are cheaper), the library is fairly decent if you take the time to discern what third-party titles are worthwhile (and most gamers don't), and I like the funcentric gameplay featured in alot of the console's titles. I would especially emphasize the second point - Endless Ocean, Elebits, No More Heroes, Trauma Center, BlastWorks, and Boom Blox all kick ass, and I would personally take them over another GTA, or even most categorically superior big-name sequels. Plus, the Wii's open-ended approach to allowing software means alot of new developers are able to garner attention.

It's just an overhyped console that got the upper hand because the other two were more expensive and had bugs of their own, unfortunately.
The Wii probably is overhyped, but I still would've bought it if it sold two million copies instead of twenty. And ultimately, while the backlash against the Wii is partially warranted, part of it is reactionary: if it had bombed in sales, it might even stand a chance of being 'cool' in this forum, and I don't see too many people dishing on the Saturn -an apt analogy, since its library was mostly comprised of a few big-name titles and several strong also-rans - because it lacked 'good games.'
