1 The Wiimote is a reason NOT to buy the bloody thing
Atleast it's a
new idea. Personally, I like that I can play a game like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 with three varying controllers, and I find the Wiimote more involving than older console apparatus.
2 There are great games in other consoles too. At leasts the other consoles do not alwats thread the same ground over and over again
Metal Gear Solid 4? Grand Theft Auto IV? Fable II? The other consoles
do tread the same ground. They might tread it
more effectively, but that's another argument altogether. And remember, after all, that the Wii has a lot of third-party titles that are more innovative, if not always better, than regular console fare (Boom Blox, Elebits, Trauma Center, etc).
3 There you are right: it's a cheap piece of crap
I've never been one to complain about low pricetags.
5 Well I think it;s the MAIN reason. Marketing. Showing cute girls playing with the Wiimote like it's a dildo and raising expectations and heartpaces of dumb guys. OK it outsold the other consoles... but WHY most Wii owners now complain about too expensive games, boring games and shitty gameplay? I could throw the graphics too, but since it's cheap I'll let it slide. WHY most Wii owners compalin they have little use for it?
I've never been one to complain about cute girls.
I bought a Wii a while back, and I have to differ with what you're saying: the games I haven't found more expensive than other consoles (infact, alot are cheaper), the library is fairly decent if you take the time to discern what third-party titles are worthwhile (and most gamers don't), and I like the funcentric gameplay featured in alot of the console's titles. I would especially emphasize the second point - Endless Ocean, Elebits, No More Heroes, Trauma Center, BlastWorks, and Boom Blox all kick ass, and I would
personally take them over another GTA, or even most categorically superior big-name sequels. Plus, the Wii's open-ended approach to allowing software means alot of new developers are able to garner attention.
It's just an overhyped console that got the upper hand because the other two were more expensive and had bugs of their own, unfortunately.
The Wii probably
is overhyped, but I still would've bought it if it sold two million copies instead of twenty. And ultimately, while the backlash against the Wii is partially warranted, part of it is reactionary: if it had bombed in sales, it might even stand a chance of being 'cool' in this forum, and I don't see too many people dishing on the Saturn -an apt analogy, since its library was mostly comprised of a few big-name titles and several strong also-rans - because it lacked 'good games.'
