I think that it might be because...there's a quick travel system?

If you had a quick travel system in reality, would you bother with a car?

Don't you think all of the vehicles would be burned to a crisp after a nuclear missile? Plus I don't think they would be too worried about refining gasoline after a nuclear apocalypse.

And we already have fast travel.

Sorry to break the flow of the thread, but was I the only one who found it odd that you could drive a fully working car across the wastes in Fallout 2?
Fallout:Tactics had a Sherman tank.
I never got that far, but honestly?

You just blew my goddamned mind.

Once again, Fallout 2.

How one single car managed to escape destruction, along with the specific parts to make it work, is beyond me. And the fact you can use it to drive ANYWHERE.

Holy crap, there's a lot of noobs in this thread.

Cars in Fallout don't run on gas, they run via nuclear fission.

It doesn't have to be a real car, just a vehicle.

You don't have to follow the rules of the road. If you forgo all of those rules, it's as simple as turn wheel, press pedal.

And the other Fallouts had vehicles.

It's mostly because of the geography that it wouldn't work.

Its too cluttered, and the likily hood of a car still running in the Fallout Universe is zero to none. Yes, other fallouts had cars, but I don't think it worked out that well.

Who cares though.

If you do, get it off of FO3 Nexus or something.

If there were cars, you would be crashing into something every second basically. On top of that, you would have to pay to keep it in good condition (after being shot a lot), find the parts for it, and pay for gasoline as well.

Tl;dr it wouldn't work very well.
The Cars and trucks and tanks are fusion powered

Because not every game needs vehicles. Though there WERE tons. Cars EVERYWHERE. Not working does not make them any less a vehicle.

As much as i'd like to pull off some Advent Children grade Motorcycle tricks in Fallout, it'd make the game even easier

So you're saying instead of fast-travelling (note FAST) you'd want to drive across the Capital Wasteland.
Why?
The Capital Wasteland doesn't seem like a vehicle friendly place.

I think we should be able to ride something not vehicles necessarily but why not Brahmin or that bear like thing I can't recall the name of it at this moment in time but at least a Brahmin come on Bethesda...

Okay, obviously a lot of the people FOR the vehicles haven't played 2, where a fully working car was introduced for your leisure. The Bethesda map however is too twisty for a vehicle.

I also kind of liked the "Surviving on your wits" way of traversing the Wasteland, it suited the sand-box that Bethesda was going for.

Why would you want to have a vehicle or mount anyway? A lot of the fun was setting a clear goal and going to it, encountering various random things across the way. Or simply wandering around a previously untouched section of map in depth. You can't do in-depth research in a vehicle or on a mount, it would be much too easy to just bypass any challenge presented. Brahmin are super slow, the Yao Gui would definitely object to being ridden, the Giant Ants now don't have a queen, so are frenzied, and all of the other creatures have even better excuses for not being ridden.

um... because Fallout 3 is a good game?

Sorry, that's petty, but my own ham-handedness at games is so great that 90% of the time I can barely move my own character around, let alone a vehicle. So I tend to hate vehicle sections with a passion. To find a good shooter without vehicles for me was a godsend.

A good chunk of the point of fallout 3 was exploration. Who remembers that feeling of wonderment when you stumbled upon the oasis? That feeling was one of the things the game relied upon. Exploration just doesn't have the same impact when you are riding in car as opposed to Traveling it by foot.

I think walking through the Wasteland is great. I rarely fast-travel.
I do enjoy using the current cars as weapons, though. Baiting a couple of raiders towards one then blowing up is hilarious.
Especially at that drive-in place.

An atv would have been nice. Anything besides the slow walk. Plus I feel cheap using fast travel but also don't wanna spend 15 min everytime I wanna go to rivet city. There are "paths" to most every location so travel wouldn't be to bad with an atv type vehicle.
