I was browsing through potential games to buy for my cousin on metacritic for the Wii when i noticed most of the games in the green are ported over sports or music games or are made by Nintendo. There are some exceptions like Dead Space Extraction and Rabbids, but most of the games i see that are good are made by nintendo.
The majority of the other good games on the list are just ports. And then the rest of the games tend to very broken or unplayable. How come the Wii, despite being the number 1 selling next gen console, won't attract big names? Surely Nintendo has the financial backings to buy any developer they want, don' they?

Because the only 1st party developer on the Wii is Nintendo? All the others are 3rd party developers.

Because if Microsoft or Sony developed Wii games, that would make them a third party developer.

They're kinda scared of it I guess. Everyone gave it the image of being a child's toy, and they never quite shook it off. Did you see how parents were crying that the Wii wasn't a "family console" anymore when Madworld came out? Exactly.

(Also, ditto the top two guys. You don't help the opponent)

any given game that is made for multiple consoles sells better on the 360 and ps3. Why? Because people buy the wii as a novelty item. An expensive novelty item. People buy a 360 and ps3 for the games. Big difference.

well, if you mean 3rd party devolpers, it's because (i think, of course.) most companies veiw it as a childrens toy, not a gaming console.

and it wouldnt be cost effective to make someone such as bioware develop excluisivly for nintendo, when people like activision and ea (who would be impossible to buy out) make the majority of popular wii and nintendo themselves make more than enough from mario, zelda, wii fit, wii sports ect ect.

Because if any other developer develops games for the Wii they're considered 3rd party developers. 1st party means the same developer that developed the game also developed the platform.

Why are you quoting me with this? Of course they don't care. That's why I said "you don't help the opponent."

Most developers have got used to either mouse and keyboard and/or the 'normal' controller and probably can't be bothered to try to adapt to the new type of controller. That, or take your pick of one of the above arguments.

because most 3rd party quality titles fail on the wii. dead space extraction, a game that utilized the hardware correctly, had good critical reviews, looked beautiful, HAD ALL THE MAKINGS OF A SUCCESS, sold 9000 copies in its first month of release. 9000! thats failure, complete and total. thats why we will keep getting minigame collections that sell like hotcakes and 3rd parties will avoid the wii like the plague till they figure out what sells.

Its funny, u would have thought that 2rd party dev's would be queuing up to produce titles for the Wii with its revealutionary control system.

Oh wait, the control system barely works, its not sensitive enough.

Maybe its cuz 3rd parties are out off from producing for the Wii by nintendo, cuz wouldnt they look silly if the best Wii games were made by someone else...
