Sonic is bringing out yet another game, to all of our 'joy', and this time he's pulling out the big guns, or in this case, swords...

This time he's sizing up against the "African-American" Knight, and he's bringing along his, trusty, sword?

High speed sword fighting in 3-D sounds like a disaster waiting to happen
A new Sonic game in 3-D sounds like a disaster waiting to happen

Weird thing is, I actually hope I get proven wrong and this is a good game
But then I wake up and realise, that will never happen

Thoughts on the new game?
Will it flop, as I predict?
I put it to you Escapists

People like Sonic so they keep buying games featuring him. Rabid fans won't give up on him and keep him in action. I don't see why the company doesn't just make a 3D Sonic and Knuckles game. Just update the graphics so that everything is in 3D on a 2D scape and I'd be down for buying it.

But Sonic with a sword? On the Wii?

No thanks.

every now and then there is a new sonic game and it's good. the most recent good sonic game i can think of is sonic's ultimate genesis collection. it only has sonic's 2d games and other genesis games

Sonic is a dead horse.
This horse has been kicked and poked.
Now this horse has another dead horse lying on top of it and that horse is being kicked.

I guess it is still quite popular though.

As much as I hate to admit it, the 2006 Sonic The Hedgehog game was quite fun. Haven't played Unleashed, but the simple truth is that Sonic games are still fun to play, despite its harshest critics. I'm never too sure what they were expecting from it.

Honestly, who comes up with these ideas? "Y'know, even though Sonic can easily jump-crush his enemies, lets give him a sword to draw out combat even LONGER!" The tried that in Shadow, and it FAILED, hard, despite the fact that he had a GUN!

The game will be crap.

Clueless parents will buy it for their kids in their millions, Sonic being the only character they recognise on the shelves.

More gimmicky Sonic games will be made.

Because silver prices have gone up so much that no one wants to waste it to make bullets to kill hedgehogs.

The only fun thing about sonic is moving at incredible speeds jumping and dodging things. Once you start adding more, it's like adding making a pie made out of every ingredient you have in the house. They are seriously trying to overshoot themselves with Sonic. If you just went back to the original concept, the games would actually be worth buying.

If they really wanted a game featuring the dark knight and a a weird looking hero wielding a sword, why would you pick Sonic? Can't you just be creative and make a new genre, I'm sure the box will still say "Sonic Team", it just won't be a Sonic game.

Enter the Sonic fangirl.

Sonic was the first video game I played back on the Mega Drive and since then he's been like a security blanket. But it's like someone's come in after a drunken night out and decided to pee all over it. And then vomited.
I don't own a Wii so obviously I won't be playing this but I don't like the idea of it at all. It makes me sad that he's become a gimmick (hah, look at me saying that like he used to be a SERIOUS game character!) and, well, crappy. I did buy Sonic Unleashed and I admittedly found it fun but I was actually hoping for a return to the old glory days and was pretty disappointed.
Don't even get me started on 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog. I bought my 360 in October (yay for free money for going to school) and it was the first game I bought. Let us mourn for a second the £15 I wasted on that.

I miss Sonic's good games.

Actually, they have judged a book by the last 3-4 failures of the same series.

An educated guess, in this case, is not inappropriate. It is generally agreed that Sonic games have been on a downhill slope for sometime now, with the biggest grievance being that they threw out way too many speed segments for combat ones. The fact Sonic appears with a sword in the games cover art(indicating at least a small focus on melee combat), tells me I won't like the game at all.
That being said, I also think just as many people want another good sonic game to come out. We've all got our hopes up in the past though, to have them violently put out of their misery, so most Sonic fans take a cautious pessimism towards the Sonic franchise. And its all his fault.
