Also: "Whats wrong with your faaaaaaace?"

EDIT: In fact just go and watch this series of reviews:
I liked the whole original trilogy and episode 1. the 2nd and 3rd episodes were just dumb...

OT: I liked Jar Jar because he helped me pass my spanish final. Hearing him talk was the first time I figured out that I could understand foreign languages...

I know that many people find him annoying, but I don't understand all the hatred for Jar-Jar and the Phantom Menace. I think that Liam Neeson (as always) did a great job with the character he had, and while I do find Jar-Jar kinda annoying but I don't hate the character.

I know that everyone is going to have a different opinion, but maybe I'll agree with one of you.
I won't post my opinion... mainly because i'll turn into a angry post. Maybe you should check the DISTRESSED WATCHER's ongoing reviews of the Prequel.

End of f*ckin' story.
You like saying that, don't you?

Edit: I remember liking him when I was younger... much younger. Now, he's about as annoying as a female hairdresser.
what is wrong with female hairdressers now?!

how does a guy with the mind of a peach become ambassador anyway ...
*beep* Sarcasm detected.

He becomes ambassador by knowing the inner workings of the senate extensively, of course!

I want you to watch RedLetterMedia's Phantom Menace review [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI]. He doesn't go in to Jar-Jar that much because everyone else already has, but he does go in to why The Phantom Menace is one of the worst films ever made.
i especially like how he just says that jar-jar was the same as the ewoks in EP. 6

I see what you did there with the title... >_> <_<

Anyway, arguably he could be one of the enablers for the rise of the empire so... yeah. He's a big douche.

I only wish you could have seen the original cuts, before the 'special editions'.

What bothers me more than anything is that it is now essentially impossible to get those original cuts. Lucas never released the originals on VHS, the very first release for home theater (apart from occasionally being shown on HBO when cable TV was brand fucking new) was the version with all the absolutely unnecessary CGI stuffed into the screen.

Makes me feel very sad and very old.
They are three versions release of Star Wars. I remember taping the theatrical cut on TV when i was 6. Also, i bought the full VHS Set before they finish the Phantom Menace. So, there the Greedo Shoot first scene but not the Christensen as Darth Vader's Spirit in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. Also, there the new one with Whiny McDouche as Darth Vader now so, i just threw aways the boxset. This is the Street Fighter ways of Marketing and I'll take no part in that.

Watch the video now!!

because he burnt down my peasant village.

edit to stay on topic: because the way those guys talk makes me want to stab them... all of them... with rusty objects.

They made him a Senator... GAH!.

"You were banished because you're clumsy?"
and then i knew we were in for it.

Now i know George Lucas said

"There is a group of fans for the films that doesn't like comic sidekicks. They want the films to be tough like Terminator, and they get very upset and opinionated about anything that has anything to do with being childlike."

but i saw Jar jar as a kid and even i didn't like him that much, granted he has a point, were just too grown up for Jar jar to appeal to us.
you know, that movie has been out most of my life, and ive hated him the entire time

I haven't watched them in a while but hen I was younger he was my favorite character so nostalgia gives me a rather nice perception of him.

Jar Jar's annoying qualities:

In a movie that is supposed to have political intrigue, planetwide occupation and epic battles on multiple fronts (and we'll leave aside the fact that it was said that people were imprisoned and dying but you never saw one Naboo who wasn't either a council member or a redshirt pilot about to die so you have no way to verify this), you have Jar Jar, who speaks unintelligibly, steps in poo, and basically, immediately does the one thing the Jedi tell him not to do. "Don't make any trouble" (gets accosted by Sebulba); "Don't get between the power couplings" (numbs his head); "Don't touch the repair droids" (wrecks the shop), the list goes on and on.

Jar Jar's One Redeeming Quality: he made this video possible (which ironically also highlights all the failings of the first movie's attempt to be taken seriously, skip to about 1:10ish):

I can understand what people hate Jar-Jar, but why do people hate the Ewoks? Those little teddy bear things are both fluffy and dangerous.

He was a useless character that really added nothing to the plot or any kind of inter-character relationship.

That and technically he gave Palpatine the executive order (or whatever) to use the clone army... so kind of his fault

I do like the fact that, ultimately, it was his vote that gave Palpatine the last bit of power he needed to destroy the Senate and create the Empire. The Empire is Jar-Jar's fault. Somehow, the sentence seems so right.

I watched the Phantom Menace when I was 10 and even then I thought Jar-Jar was as annoying as f@#$. Probably because my parents weaned me on the original trilogy at the tender age of 5 (seriously, I would watch Empire Strikes Back, rewind the VCR AND REWATCH IT), but I thought the whole character was just stupid. Loved Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor, but hated everything else.

The main trouble with Jar-Jar Binks is the dude does not jive well with any kind of machoness. Even if you're not inherently macho in nature, he's just a tad too kindergarten.

I loved him when the film came out. When was this..? Hm... *checks* 11 years ago? That means I was about 8 years old. That explains it!

Yeah I really dislike him now. I love the original trilogy, not a fan of the prequilitrilogy. Although I do view it as part of the lore, and the movies were alright to watch once, they're not classics or anything. Just like Matrix: Revolutions. Just ok, nothing spectacular, but still a nice way to tie things together.

Thankfully, Jar-Jar's presence was levelled out thanks to that awesome climactic duel where Qui-Gon rubbed shoulders with Colbert.

Shush. It happened.
My favorite part of the entire film. Thanks for the memories.

Buwahahahahaha! What was heard cannot be unheard.

OT: He is supposed to be the comic relief character of the movie but the problem was that R2 and C-3P0 were still in the prequels. People have to rag on the comic relief and seeing as R2 and 3P0 were from the originals, Jar jar was targeted.

Me personally? I tolerate him. Here is my contribution to the laughter though:
