I would say that (from a Christian standpoint) God does not go down with His ship, so to speak, because He created it. He's not defined by the ship, he existed before it. A captain is only a captain if he has a ship, but God was God before he had the world.

You could even argue that (again from a Christian point of view), the world we see isn't God's ship at all, the spiritual world is, and that will never end.
Amen thanks for saying this.

Genesis 19:24-26 said:
Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah-from the LORD out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities-and also the vegetation in the land. But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
I think God, should he exist, will do the sinking.
Yeah, God is a bit of a ***** in the Torah. He really seemed to mellow out in Jesus-times though, which is baffling.

Having a kid tends to mellow a man out, or so I've heard.

Well if you study philosophy, you learn that God is already dead and its the second time it happened. First time was during Plato's time.
Yeah, he died of boredom trying to sit through one of Plato's overly verbose and clunky lectures...

Well, going with the common religious idea that an all-powerful God created the world...

If you made a model plane knowing that your little brother would eventually tear it apart, and he did, would you be destroyed too?

No. It makes no sense. For God to go down with the world, you are implying that God is bound to the same existence as us, which means he is no God.

I love how the arguments are being influenced mythical, philosophical, and theological stand points. God or gods, are a human creation meant to explain the universe around us. Let's say the world goes through a Cretaceous-like extinction where only 3% of the earth's organisms survive, thus returning us all to cave-man status. Any concept of religion as we know it now will disappear. On the upside, for those of you who like to imagine a world with a Dungeon Master at the helm, new religions will spring up. Yay for human imagination!

He probably sold his Harley-Davidson, and went on to settle down with a stable job, and a mortgage.

This thread will not end well.

It is impossible to derive a serious philosophical discussion from lyrics to a song sung by these fellows:
Damn that chick on the left is HAWT!

....Wait a minute....Oh shi...

OT: If God does exist, then he probably has another 10 billion planets to watch over, or will just get to work on populating Mars. There's no reason to believe that God in the ONLY god, and that there aren't other gods with their only solar systems to watch over. I think I've heard that Mormon dogma touches on a similar concept, so I know I'm not the only one with insane ideas.

Nietzsche?
I always laugh when I'm playing Left 4 Dead, Dead Air and on one level the words "God is Dead" are scrawled on the walls.

Isn't that Black & White [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPCLhaNA4-E]? :)
Dammit. I thought I was being original.

Hmmm. Have you been reading Neil Gaiman lately?
I've never read Neil Gaiman, actually.

I don't think He would, the point is He's all powerful etc. Still, an interesting question.

Off topic, is it bad that I read this as "Will God go down on the world?" the first time I saw it?

Quel surprise. That's one of the main plot points in American Gods. If you like that sort of philosophy or whatnot, I'd suggest checking it out.

No, to admit that god can die is to infer than he was born at some point which apparently never happened, he just was.

This is one of the reasons that I find the whole concept hard to swallow and even if we all accept the exact same idea of god, would it matter if he existed? It's not like he wants to directly interact with us anyway. A god that doesn't listen to us is as bad as no god at all.

Overall the whole thing just seems to come down to the basic rule of humanity: People are stupid

Canonically the world ending is part of god's plan, and he will wisp all the faithful away just before it happens. So no.

And everyone who hates on fall out boy is a conformist. :O

even though i don't believe in a god, technically what he "created" was the universe, therefore he would only have to go down when the universe did. asking if "god" would go down with the earth is like asking if a captian would go down if his belly button lint flew off the side of the boat.
