COD4 -> MW2 = new weapons, new lighting engine, new models,

MW2 -> Blops = new weapons, new texture engine, new models

MW2 -> MW3 = mostly the same weapons, same textrues/lighting, same enemy models, etc

It isn't hard to change a game, however Activison's problem is how their mistreatment of Infinity Ward lead to them refusing to begin production and half the staff including ALL the creative leads ditching the project. Activision then had to quickly assemble a new team - based on loyalty rather than talent - to quickly make a sequel.

So of course this is the worst rehash yet.

MW2 covered a lot of the same ground as COD4 but at least it was a new game from the ground up.

MW3 is clearly just a remix of MW2, just dropping in more elements.

Survival Mode wasn't in MW2.
Have you read fourzerotwo's twitter at all?
It sounds not exactly like MW2.
Adding a (kind of) new game mode doesn't make them any less similar gameplay-wise.

And no, I don't follow fourzerotwo's twitter, because I'm not really interested in the game.
Survival Mode =/= Nazi Zombies.
On 402's twitter, he talks about how things have been removed, tubes have been balanced, they are changing the melee system, they are changing the killstreak system, etc.
Hmm, looks like something they could've just patched and not charged $100 for.....oh, yeah.

What is this? Apple?

I can see where you're coming from, as I hate what Activision did to IW.

I'm guessing their motto is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", as its formula draws millions of people every year.

They are adding more new weapons, though. They just haven't been told yet. At least I think.

But I hardly see anyone complain about Madden being the same, it's always CoD or some other series.

LOOKS! It's the same weapons, same enemies, same engine without any apparent modification.

Even the "explosive dogs" are the same except they have C4 packs glued to their side but it functions just like martyrdom.

Things like survival mode would be simple for an amateur coder to mod in, if only they had mod tools. It is almost all the exact same assets remixed together, this is the kind of thing you'd expect in DLC expansion pack for MW2, not as the sequel! Hell just given the chance we would have made this for ourselves!

Yes, there are a few new weapons, but look at Team Fortress 2 all the new weapons given for free over a similar time period!

OT: I will get MW3 but I'm not going to rush out to get it, not till at a VERY reasonable price.

I hold it in about the same regard as FEAR 3 or Red Faction Armageddon.
TF2 also has bought weapons which are overpriced and usually overpowered so I can't hold it in the same regard. Also Armageddon and FEAR3 actually went ahead and changed a lot of stuff so you can't put them in the same bin as MW titles either.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the whole price thing.
(I usually get them for about 30 bucks, a few days early.)
And I think there was mod tools for Black Ops.
How do you get it for $30 a few days early?

Activision are notorious for pricing their COD games as high as anyone could possibly get away with. The standard PC version is £39.99, it is the single most expensive game on the Service.

only the Deus Ex Augmented Edition costs as much and that has a huge pack of extra content plus another game included in the price.

Then there are the inevitable map packs, it is OBVIOUS that they were complete months ago and merely released at a steady $15 pace to milk the most money at the cost of dividing the community.

Adding a new game mode doesn't make them any less similar. Survival Mode is basically Nazi Zombies with soldiers instead of zombies.

And no, I don't read fourzerotwo's twitter, I barely follow COD at all.
If you're not interested then why did you start reading the post to begin with?
It's called "browsing."
Do you typically browse things that are clearly labelled as something you're not interested in? Why not just navigate to the QVC website and look at ice cream makers?
Sorry, I didn't know this thread was reserved only for people who are going to buy the game. How dare I share my opinion.
It's not, but you're being arrogant if you think anyone takes your opinion seriously when you say things like this:

Opinions generally become invalid when you have no idea what you're talking about and you sling around random insults like FOX news does. I guess we all know where you've obtained your argumentative skills from.
I value his opinion for everything he has said.

He has been witty and concise while you have been belittling and argumentative.

Why not just play MW2 again?

No. And why would anyone want it to be like CoD4?

CoD4 lacked so many features that even Call of Duty(1) had. If anything, I'd like the next game to go back to its roots.

It'll be fun either way, though.

Because of the ridiculously broken multiplayer. I am hoping for the new one to have a multiplayer that doesn't make me pull my hair out. They said they would take out some perks and change some aspects, so some doubts were relieved.

Also, I never really payed for MW2. I borrowed it for an extensive time :p.

They aren't overpriced, they are free. I have almost the entire arsenal without paying for a single one.

The new weapons are not overpowered, every buff has a corresponding nerf. Stronger in one area yet weaker in another.

COD's weapon progression is however straight upgrade path, so many weapons are just straight up superior in every way. Though to be honest all the weapons are so similar used in such a similar way all it does is give you and advantage, not a DIFFERENT way to play the game.

Like Direct-Hit's higher damage and higher velocity yet virtually no splash damage you can no longer depend on the old aim-for-feet technique, you pretty much have to aim for the body or MUCH closer to their feet. That is playing DIFFERENTLY with new weapons.

"Also Armageddon and FEAR3 actually changed a lot"

They're still not that amazing. Same with MW3: nothing special.

Why don't I just play some more Black ops? Why bother with MW3?

How anyone can even be considering wasting their time on a Call of Duty game with Battlefield 3 coming out is completely beyond me. I played 250 hours of MW2 (of which I'll admit I enjoyed about 100 hours) and I've played 300 hours of Bad Company 2 (and I'm still playing it and still loving it). Battlefield Bad Company 2 isn't just narrowly superior to MW2 it is analogous to comparing the attractiveness of Emily Blunt to a stale turd. If you're oblivious to what Dice are doing, then I encourage you to buy BFBC2 or watch the BF3 trailers, or if you have experience of Battlefield and still think COD has something to offer then you're clearly mental and a lost cause.

Yes, they used the same graphics as mw2. That means that instead of working a lot on the graphics they can focus on the gameplay and balance
Sorry but thats no excuse for a triple a game running on the same engine as its last 4 predecessors. Balance does not require a huge budget or a humongous team to do. Sure graphics alone don't show game quality, but the lack of advancement in the graphics, sound, and gameplay of the past games has left a pretty bad taste in people's mouths.

It won't. Pure and simple, it shall not. Cod 4 was a masterpiece, but infinity ward are now way too proud and smug to think about making effort.
And also too non-existant after the whole firing fiasco.

Dude, COD is INHERENTLY unbalanced!

Think about it, if you can Create your own class are you going to deliberately give your class flaws to balance the game? No. everyone is of course going to choose all the perks and weapons that makes them as overpowered as possible.

The only way "create a class" works is by keeping it simple, like Counter-strike simple. Just armour and weapons.

Look at how counterstrike handles weapons.
-The M4 carbine is a 3 hit kill, 2-headshot-kill.
-The AK47 is a 2 hit kill, 1-headshot kill BUT the weapon has huge recoil. The difference between M4 and AK is like stopping-power except it is linked with disadvantage of high recoil. Also you can tell if you are facing a 3-hit or 2-hit kill gun from the sound.

In almost every other game when they deal out all the perks for each class they give corresponding nerfs. Like TF2's Heavy having massive health and powerful weapon, but the weapons is quite short range and he is a huge slow target. And Scout of course is NOT allowed to equip Heavy's minigun, IMAGINE IF HE DID!

Killstreaks are - ALL - bullshit.

They are somewhat fun to use, but not enough to balance out how frustrating they are when used against you. Like dogs, they kill dozens but you don't get to see or savour any of the the kills. Even chopper gunner from 1000 feet you are just shooting at tiny specks. A good killstreak is one that is more fun to use than it is to have used against you.

It seems the game everyone wants is counterstrike but can't seem to admit it. It has hidden depth that you can only appreciate after you've seen how easy it is to abuse the COD system.
