I don't think there has ever been a film series to produce as many quality films as Harry Potter. 7 films each with good to great critical acclaim and each entertaining in their own right.

Well done HP, well done.
You haven't seen the fifth movie have you?
You mean the 5th movie with a 71 on metacritic and 78% certified fresh on rottentomatoes?

You mean the movie that introduced true wand-combat to the film series?

Yes I saw the 5th movie. And I had problems with it.

I never said they were perfect, revolutionary, or amazing. All I said is that they all got good to great reviews and they were all entertaining in their own right.

Eight movies. Eight movies, and I still cannot figure out why the f*** Voldemort doesn't have a nose! :p
Because he has snake nostrils.
Yes, those are nostrils, but I'm asking for a nose. Did they ever explain why he has nostrils but no nose?

[sub]I'm not denying they did, but I don't remember if or where they said that.[/sub]
Not that I'm aware of. They just point out that he has slits, instead (it's in the books, too).

Presumably, they assumed that the man who lives and breathes snake imagery doesn't really need an explanation for why he would want to look snakelike.
Fair enough for the snake imagery. But if I recall, Voldemort was a student of Hogwarts, wasn't he? Don't you think the kid without a nose and looks kind of like a snake would raise a few eyebrows?

Again, I haven't read the books or seen the movies in a long time, so maybe there's an explanation for that and I'm making an ass of myself.
He began to take that appearance when he started to recruit the Death Eaters after his time at Hogwarts to make himself more menacing and most likely to hold a stronger grip of fear over the Death Eaters so they would be easier to convince to his side, setting aside common goals and beliefs (the scenes in Half Blood Prince were while he was studying at Hogwarts, just like any other student - albeit more morbid curiosities). Also, I'm not entirely sure, but I do believe it was a permanent form of a shape-shifting/appearance-altering spell that he used to mold his face into a more snake-like visage. Or, it could have easily been the soul splitting procedure into the Horcruxes that corrupted his visage into that.

OT: The trailer does look really good, and so does the one that was specially included in the dvd of Part 1. Needless to say, the hype is getting there.

Edit: Ninja'd several times on the explanation of Voldemorts appearance. Sorry for an extra post giving the same explanation, War.

I'm not a fan of the franchise (although I read all the books wen I was younger) but that looked quite good.

That's alright. Thanks though. It did sum things up in one post rather than gathering info from the others.

loved all the movies and the books. haters can hate all they want but a generation grew up with harry potter and it was sure as s**t better than that twilight stuff we saw for a while there. im sure the movie is worth seeing, even if it is just for the special effects, heck avatar is just one big sfx bonanza in 3d and look how much people loved it. i stopped expecting them to recreate the books after I read the voluminous 5th one and everyone else should probably lower their standards a bit if they want to enjoy the movie more.

Well the books definitley had more of an effect on me than the movies have but this signifies the complete ending to an amazing series enjoyed by so many.

Did anyone notice Voldemort's recurring scream? It was the same one each time, just this angry NYURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Just found that quite amusing.
But anyway, there were a few scenes I couldn't quite place. HOW MUCH HAVE THEY CHANGED IT OH GOD IT COULD BE RUINNNNNED. *cough* Anyways, I'm going to wait and see what happens, it's going to be great either way: If it's good, then there's enough said. If it isn't, I get something to ***** about for a while! :D

Or moreso as an example of monstrous allegory that depicts that in death the masquerade lost, in ressurection the facade need not be worn. Human only in it's dimensions, beastial in that it can never be reckoned as whole or redeemable by the fair.

It was aimed at a children/young adult audiences ... Might as well make the face of evil as easily recognizeable rather than something that can pass for entirely human (and therefore innocence and all that).... Tom Riddle, as opposed to Tom Ripley

Edit: Yes I suck at puns....

Yeah, so the cliff dive looked a bit silly, but I was never as emotionally invested in the films as the books anyway, so I'm not that bothered. Looks like it would make for a good afternoon.

I have to admit that the trailer looks awesome. I wanted to see the first part in theaters but I hate going alone.

I'm sure this time will be no different.

Childhood officially over.

Seriously, I've been with the series from the start. From book one to movie 7/8.

It looks goddamn amazing. I'm a bit biased, since I've loved every goddamn movie and book, but seriously...looks AMAZING.
I know...I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself come July 15th...
