This is true, however "There is no such thing as European, Asian, American and African culture." Is not. I'll use Asia as an example to show what I mean. Japan and China have two distinct histories, cultures, etc that are unique to those nations. However, there are many qualitative similarities between them in areas such as diet, folklore, and religion that are radically different in other parts of the world, Europe for instance. Buddhism is widely practiced in many countries in Asia, thus none of them can stake an exclusive claim on it, but sparsely practiced in Europe. Buddhist philosophy would be an example of Asian culture; something that is shared by many Asian nations.

Eastern collectivism vs European and American individualism, African tribalism vs American multiculturalism, even American Islam vs Middle Eastern or African Islam are all examples of regional culture that contain smaller national cultures, which are not the same, but have systematic similarities.

Because the astute reader would instantly have understood that I was pointing out that ignorant people who know nothing of Ireland would classify it as backwards and a joke for the stereotypes and occasional news snippets depicting the Irish as being child molesters, drunkards and flat out terrorists (IRA). So therefore her insulting another place that has a bad reputation without knowing anything about it is flat out retarded.

I certainly don't think it's justified. If a female acquantice of mine started spreading rumors we've been bumping uglies and I'm a total manwhore, would I be justified in corporeal punishment? No, of course not.
Her father is a dumb bastard. Parents should never, ever punish their children before absolutely sure of guilt.
That said, the West is very knee-jerk about physical punishment. If she's just been slapped around once, it's just stupid rather than abhorrent.
