I think it's more sexist that men are always put in the front-row role. Some of us aren't macho and out there, you know.
I'd rather follow a woman's lead in a nuclear crisis than my own, for example. Then again I'd rather follow anyone's lead rather than my own.
With you on that one; I'd be the last person I'd want to follow into battle.
I always play as female characters given the choice; it would be nice if they wrote a few more though. I suppose it's just left up to us to imagine a kick-ass female protagonist with no love intrests or romantic sub-plots then.
I think it's rather safe to say that a lot of people here would follow whoever takes charge, and aren't very willing to BE that guy/girl who takes charge. Comes with not being trained/educated on how to act in a combat situation.
That has nothing to do with the actual topic though.
I don't mind the love interests/romantic subplots as long as they are well written and make sense.
Sadly, that's very hard to do. And even harder to do WELL, so that even people who have different opinions on what good romance is, can agree that it is well written and performed.
And by different opinions I mean things like, person A might not be attracted to the same traits as person B, but they can both agree that the romance plot itself is good, even if it's not what they'd do/who they'd fall for in real life.
