It's probably just the way I've been brought up, but the OP sounds like a terrible pervert...

There should be a section of the site devoted to Jonluw's questions, it happens so regularly it's basically a feature like extra punctuation at this point.
Maybe a new sub-forum for just Jonluw and Daystar Clarion's threads?

I'm not sure that topless men are really 'flaunting' anything. Perhaps it's different in America but here in the UK the majority of men have nothing to be particularly proud of when it comes to the chest area. Mind you, it's true that for 363 days of the year we haven't the weather to warrant a bare chest.

I'm sure being topless is legal in many countries. Women breast-feed in public quite frequently now and to my knowledge there haven't been too many arrests. But if we're talking about boobs being a social taboo then it's certainly still the case.
I don't think there's a large gender disparity in fitness in either the U.S. or the U.K. Women are just as out of shape as men are in both places. Also, if you think women only want to see perfectly sculpted chests of marble, studies show you're probably overestimating what they find attractive.[footnote]http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18089177[/footnote]

Legality is the first part of it. It's not until sometime after it's become legal that something can become normalized, most of the "topfreedom" laws are relatively new in North America.
I'm well aware that only very few women will settle for nothing less than a demigod, my point wasn't about that. Only the most vain of men will remove their clothing specifically to entice women (which is what I'd define 'flaunting' as). I don't think women find men's chests any more attractive than men find women's legs or midriff, and we seem to be content to have those on display.

For the majority of men, going topless is a practical thing, like you said. Which means that when it's practical women should also be free bare all. However, for strenuous activity it makes more sense for a woman not to have her breasts hanging out, even though bras can get very sweaty and itchy (so I'm told). This is where bikini tops find their niche, practically speaking.

Legality is a whole new level of confusing. When we start the debate of what precedes what in terms of social and legal taboos, it's genuinely a case of the blind leading the blind.

I don't care about that, I just dislike censorship in general. People won't just avoid looking at something offensive they'll demand it gets covered up and removed when they could easily just not look at it.

Yeah... I'm from the US midwest, and I'd rather not see most of the people around there topless. Men or women.

Aside from anything else, a man who's caught staring at breasts is in for an awful time, regardless of whether or not they were 'on display', as it were. It's quite funny to watch what happens when a woman in a low-cut top meets a room full of men, suddenly the skirting-boards and light-fittings become incredibly interesting.
I'm of the particular belief that if you're going to shape it up so nicely with clothing, then I'm going to partake of its magnificence. Whether it be a particularly well shaped rump in yoga pants, or a wonderful cleavage pushed just enough out from that too-small shirt, I'm gonna look. At least once, twice if it was enjoyable. Staring, not so much, but I'm not going to purposely look away either.

And I happen to be a lucky enough fellow that my lovely girlfriend feels the same way about it. So when done in public, even with my ladyfriend along, I'm safe. It's amazing how much more appealing your woman is when she's secure enough to let that happen.

Truly feel bad for the rest of the male population with the stuffy, "DON'T LOOK AT HER YOU PERVERT" significant others.

Sure, it's Puritan nonsense, but there's a positive, probably unforeseen consequence to it all.

Breasts are amazing.

They're amazing and they really shouldn't be. They're milk sacs for feeding infants. That's all they are. But by covering them up and keeping them out of reach, sexually repressed rule-makers have painted that shit GOLD. Breasts are those top shelf, just out of reach items, and when you finally get to them it's amazing.

Doug Stanhope put it pretty well - if women were allowed to show their boobs in public, but had to cover up their forearms, you'd lose your shit as soon as you saw a hint of wrist.

So why, then, are such massive efforts being exerted to keep children protected from taking part in the wonders of breasts?
It is to teach restraint at such an impressionable age. To build both an immunity and an appreciation.

The power of breasts is (are?) overwhelming. They are like a narcotic. If you were introduced and hooked in any way other than sustenance from an early age, you would form an addiction. If not protected, we would be consumed by breasts at all hours. You would lose your drive for anything other than breasts; forgoing, work, social interaction, food, shelter. Civilization might collapse.

They are also something to appreciated. If breasts became an everyday thing, they might lose their appeal. Imagine eating ice cream all day every day. Aside from sugar rushes and brain freezes, you'd get bored with the flavor, you'd eventually yearn for something else. The same would happen with breasts.

However, combine these two factors. You would become bored of breasts, yearn for a break, but you would be unable to take yourself away. You would grow to hate that with which you were consumed.

Breasts must be contained and moderated, for the good of us all.

"With great power comes great responsibility."

Wish I had someone to tell me off for staring, as it is I just stay fixated until I'm spotted and immediately lose any chance I may have had with any girl in a 5 mile radius.

But girls who display every inch of flesh that they possibly can (and a few they really shouldn't) and then call you a pervert for staring really need to re-evaluate their view of themselves. If I'm going to look then I'll at least be discreet about it but they should make a choice about being either assertive or modest, there really isn't much of a middle ground, and girls who try to make one are just asking for trouble.

According to OP's profile, he was born in the twentieth century, which would make him over 11. I find that very hard to believe.

Its weird that total nudity isnt allowed either.

I see no reason why not. Children HAVE a gender. So hey already know what 50% of what they are looking at is. Whats the harm of learning the other side. Is life really so terrifying we need to keep children in purosefull ignorance of their own bodies? Things that will do no harm to them and are not disturbing or scaring in any way? Its a body. A person. You know what a human is. You ARE one. Perhaps sexuality is so repressed because we try and tell everyone its bad.

The netherlands has a VERY sexual liberal country. Lowest teen pregnancy rate in europe. Go figure.
