"Hardcore" brings up images of 14 year old skateboarders from the 90s who think they're changing the world and "sticking it to the man" by listening to Blink 182 and pulling off a kickflip".

Truest thing ever said.

This is why I dislike using the word.

Because people seem to not understand what entitlement means. OP included.

Everyone can be greedy. Everyone can Want things. They have a right to that.

However entitlement is when you think you have a right you dont have.

"I have a right to day one DLC because I bought the game."
No you just want the day one DLC. You have no right to it.
"I have a right to get the ending changed because I like the game."
No you just played the game. You dont have a right of authorship.

That is entitlement.

It grinds my teeth when people whine at me for calling them entitled and will afterwards say "the customer is always right" without any realisation of what they just did.
Except by definition that is not what entitlement means. You should qualify by either saying "sense of entitlement" or "false entitlement" because otherwise it's nonsense, similar to me calling an obese person "thin" instead of "not thing".

Please don't redefine a word at whim.

I hate it when people just randomly shoutout MLG at the top of their lungs not only in an online match but also at my school where there are people who are convinced that they are professional gamers because they have a fairly high kill to death ratio in COD and refuse to play anything else because they believe that they are going to be contacted by some member of MLG and get payed boatloads of money for sitting on their ass playing games.

IT'S A SILENT P MORTHERFUCKER! JUST SAY "OWNED"!

Also "pussy-ass"... well which is it? If you're getting confused between the two it says a lot about your girlfriends hygiene.

Fair point.

"sense of entitlement" is mainly the context. Ill use a direct example of where I have been whined at for calling people entitled when my exact words was "Gamers feel they are entitled to.."
Well that makes sense, it's just when people just say the E word, I'm left scratching my head. It's like being shouted at for having a "right" to do something.

But yeah we can debate what the equilibrium point between the consumer and industry point is.

I hate it when people call their MMO characters "toons," it just seems weird to me for some reason.
Only time I can recall ever calling a game character a toon was in Battlefield Heroes (and in my defense that game does look like a cartoon).

I die a little inside every time someone says "loose" instead of "lose"

Rouge instead of Rogue. I know it's a one character difference but come on... Rouge is french for red, or is a type of makeup. Rogues are people who backstab anyone who calls them a Rouge.

Realism. I'm sorry, video games are not about realism. They never have been, never will be. Being a one man army and personally shooting your way through hundreds of guys while shrugging off bullet wounds is NOT realistic. Making all your level environments a grungy brown does NOT make them realistic. Making your characters scruffy looking with short brown hair instead of crazy blonde spiky hair is... well, okay, you can have that one. Games are an escape from reality, so why the hell would we want them to be more like what we're trying to escape from!

Entitled. Ugh. The trendiest bit of Ad Hominem on this site, and probably others but I see it a LOT on these forums. See also: Fanboy

I find it irritating when someone doesn't speak english to spout poorley phrased insults at me, involving intercourse with my father or mother.

I think there must be like a "Internet Non-english Speaking Dick-Head Phrase Book" with such classics as "jajaja nooooooob" or "i fuck yur peg muthar" and lets not forget "#Name# BAD".

Seriously... if your going to insult me use some flair son, perhaps go with... Oh my god you crotch sniffing tit badger!.

To be fair, "pwned" is a pretty stupid and/or old word in itself, as well as its brother, "owned."

At least when used in terms of gaming.

OT: I'm going to have to throw my hat in with "umad" and "problem?" as well.

"omg" makes me see red. I'm not really sure why, but whenever someone writes omg I want to reach into my monitor and punch them.
Especially in DOTA, when combined with "this *insert hero name*", which is my second most hated phrase.
"omg this lina" <--- Makes me want to buy a high-powered rifle and climb a clock tower.

I hope it never does BECAUSE Entitled is not insult, its a word that is more or less a term for smart consumers who knows what he was promised or told he would get. You can't turn Nice into a insult, the same goes for this.
...

/facepalm

Please explain your reasoning behind this...
Well heres the bing version of entitled.
http://www.bing.com/Dictionary/search?q=define+entitle&qpvt=definition+Entitled&FORM=DTPDIA

Entitlement is more correct to my statement however.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/entitlement

Entitlement alone is not a bad thing, nor a insult, there is such a thing as arrogant or ignorant entitlement. Since the Mass Effect 3 ending thing, where IGN thought that Entitled or Entitlement is a prime word to describe Mass Effect 3's ending protesters are incorrect in the assumption that this was a bad thing. The Retake Mass Effect movement supporters are 100% entitled to a ending that is fit for purpose or is what they were told they would get, they did not get this. They were not arrogantly or ignorantly entitled to anything that they weren't told they were told they would get.

To wrap up, Entitled or Entitlement is less of "A dude who thinks that they are owed something without reason" and more of "A person who is aware of his rights when it comes to purchases or investments along with legal recourse."

Webster did show a example of Entitlement as being used as a sort of bad thing, but the key word here is that Entitled is not a bad word alone, but more of a word describing someone who is more aware of their rights. Other sentences that use entitled can be:
I am Entitled to Welfare for Y reason.
I am Entitled to a refund for a product that did not work.
I am Entitled to sue those who have caused me much grief and suffering.
Thomas is so aggravating, he thinks hes entitled to my comic book collection because I let him borrow one book which he returned in poor condition.
Those protesters are entitled to the freedom-of-speech.
Everyone is entitled to their privacy.
The Entitlement of stock investors is to invest in whatever stocks they see fit.
