To a lesser extent, "counter". This is one I use often as PART of a sentence, but whenever it is the TOPIC of one, I want to gouge my eardrums out.

Personally, I love the phrase "theorycrafting". It makes me feel as though I'm a scientist and intelligent 'n' junk.

Also I like using the word "Gamer" to identify myself as gaming is my main interest/hobby. It's the same as "Musician" or "Sportsman/woman" in my eyes, as long as it is willingly self-assigned. I hope that the more we "gamers" use it, the less stigma will be attached to our mothers' basements.

Oh and I love people pulling that card on me, as I live on the 13th floor of a block of flats. Dat basement.

I mean, look at TOR, where we were told the game would need a 1m subscriber base to make money. That number may have been off base, but at the same time it became the fastest selling MMO in history and still failed to meet publisher expectations. It has a population most MMOs would kill for (~700k), but it's so far under capacity players complain about empty servers.

I'm really starting to think the problem is: publishers have no idea what MMOs really are.

I actually started playing the 7 day trial of TOR this week and I was shocked at how low the population was in a lot of the EU servers. The thing is, you have all these people saying that TOR doesn't have a lot of subscribers while the problem is clearly too many fucking servers, coupled with no server transfer(yet).

I'm sure there's more than a few people who simply don't wanna start from scratch just to have some other players to interact with.

I'm not really sure if it's a gamer thing or just an idiot thing, most times I see someone use it in an argument I just leave the thread and never come back.

Also I've never heard it used outside the escapist (at least how it's used here) so maybe its just a cancer that's infected the Escapist and has yet to metastasize elsewhere.

Entirely in the context of online multiplayer, and the use of these as insults. The use of terms like "pwned" and "pwnage" are usually just childish and stupid, but using the word "rape" is flat out offensive and ignorant.

The flipside is when players are losing, they call their opponents "Geeks, Virgins, and Nerds". First, we're all in the same hobby. So our judgement that partaking in that hobby is a bad thing is supremem hypocrisy. Calling someone a "virgin" is just moronic, calling someone a "geek" or a "nerd" for being better than you is just being a poor sport.

And as soon as any girls start playing, the rubbish they have to put up with if they use mic chat makes me want to castrate my gender (Yes, I know that it is a minority that do this).

Although, the flipside to that, going on about being "Grrrl Gamers" generally annoys me too, since to me, it's a hobby for everyone, and gender divides have no material behind monitors.

And finally, this one's already been said, but: "Entitled". Using the argument that someone is "entitled" if they refuse to like a game, or are annoyed by DRM, or really, annoyed by anything, is not an argument at all. It's ad-hominem, but it's also completely irrelevant, as consumers are entitled by nature of their consumption. Industry is selling to us, and they are to answer to our whims if they want our money. That's how capitalism works, especially in artistic medium. This one came up on a massive level with the Mass Effect 3 ending, and the non-working of Diablo 3 for some players. Now, I'm not saying a position one way or another on this, but calling someone entitled is an abscence of a rational position, not a position that can be defended. It's as silly as calling someone who agrees with a company as a fanboy, or on the payroll.

Fortunately, we seem to have reduced our use of the term fanboy.

Also, people who claim to be 'so high right now,' when they sound like they've never even touched anything remotely narcotic.

You do make a good point. If you play online and talk "your language" to a friend or someone else, people should really stop being pissed about them not speaking English. There are some players, however, who at the start of the game asks if there is anyone else who is from their country or speak their language,and that will save a lot of "not-speaking-English-rage".

Anyway, you should get away with...not perfect English, as long as you make yourself understandable to the other players.

OT: Uninformative insults.

This really grinds my gear on so many levels. It is OK to get pissed about a game or a gamer, but only if you can (how shall I say it?) "Rage with arguments". This is blaming the team for not focusing, doing the wrong actions or going after the wrong targets. Those are OK, but the uninformative insults, are all unacceptable.

These are more sentences than words (but then again, words means more than one word, so I guess this is OK).

Some of these insults may be: "F**K your mom!" (source: 12 year old on CoD). Now, what the höle does that have to do with any games, or anything? Does the revival that the player is a motherf***ker change anything? No! It does not!

Also, words like N00b and ******. Words used wrong, because some players don´t even know what they means, but are only using it because other people do. Learn the meaning befor you use the word, damn it!

I sincerely hope that 1.3 sorts it out somewhat with the server transfers and merges, assuming the merges aren't just hearsay. The low population on so many of the servers is pretty much the only thing that's kept me from purchasing the game during my trial.

Trolling and soloing aren't as bad as they are already regular verbs. Trolling is a fishing term (it's when you tow a baited hook or lure behind a moving boat), whereas soloing is a musical term.

Tanking, whilst irregular, doesn't sound as awkward and wrong as "main", so isn't as objectionable to me.
