Well goddamn, OP you just used what I was about to say.

The other word I really hate seeing around is "art" and if games are that. That discussion gets very ugly very fast, and no one wins after having it.
Yeah. I think the biggest problem is that there seems to be no objective definition. Everyone has their own, very personal idea of what is and isn't art I guess.

Personally, I hate the use of the word "rape" in the place of beat.

And, of course, the liberal use of "******".
You're probably right.

I don't want to cheapen the word, but I think if there's a set definition of that word for just games, then I don't think it's going to do this medium any justice or favor. I don't understand why all games can't be art and we can just leave it at that. I mean, everything after that is just someone's opinion on the game in question.

OT: Noob. We were all noobs once. I actually try to help noobs where/if i can. That apparently makes me a "Noobtard"
Correction. We were all "newbs" once. A "Newb" is a person who's new at a game, and thus not very good at it.

A "noob" is a person who's not very good at the game, and doesn't give a shit.
And who is also very bad at the game after playing it for such a long time.

They may also think they are "beast" or "teh awzum" at it, and anybody who disagrees is "teh gayz hatin' da material", or something of the sort.

Is this the words that make you cringe thread or the general gripes thread?

OT:

"GLHF" or "good luck have fun."

I know you're just trying to be nice but you sound ridiculous.

"gamer" I'm not sure why people who play games have a title while other forms of entertainment don't

And Immersion bothers you? I think what you're looking for is 'escaping life' because immersion is what makes scary games scary and well told stories fun. People trying to shut out life and escape to a game 100% are mental.

"Art."

While I do believe that games can be art, the term in gaming does not mean what we come to define art in other mediums. Art in a gamer sense is a marketing ploy and tends to apply to something that games you would not notice unless someone deemed it art in the first place. No matter how great Braid, Journey, Flower, Amnesia and Dear Ester are, they would not be nearly as popular today without someone calling them art in the first place.

I do not buy into the "Games are a product and therefore can't be art" argument either. 85 percent of what we would classify as art started life as product. This includes most movies, all books, all visual arts, and even video games. Regardless of how well some sold, they still were initially designed as product.

potions only become OP if you TRY to make them that way.
It gets worse in Morrowind when you can use Fortify Intelligence potions to exponentially improve your alchemy abilities.
Glitch is still in skyrim, you just make Fortify Restoration potions instead

"GG" Good game.

Sure, in some cases it applies, but most of the time definitely not.
You just completely obliterated me, that was definitely NOT a good game! My paranoid brain is pretty sure people just use it as an insult most of the time.

100% of the words that come out of 95% of the people in voice chat. The other 5% are sensible, decent human beings that I actually enjoy playing with and whom I don't mute after two seconds.

Seriously, it's like I'm a magnet to foulmouthed, juvenile screeching. It gets especially funny when they start daring me to mute them. I sometimes wonder if being ignored makes them die a little inside every time. Then again, the 95% does make meeting the 5% a welcome breath of fresh air. Except, it shouldn't be.

Also, English native speakers who can't pronounce words in their own language. It's not even my second language, but I still know who to say them properly. They have no such excuse.

I forgot Gamerchick, how could i.

Your a girl, who plays games, your fucking point? What, you want a hand out?

Stop acting like a fucking whore and either play or shut the fuck up.

Seriously.
Gamerchick/Gamer girl is a term I find irritating but necessary. If you don't mention it to people you play with (and do not use voice), its assumed you are male. People might say `So what` to that, but that's why so many people think women are a teeny minority, because if we dont mention it you're kind of auto-penis'd in everybody's mind.

Anyway... `Imba`.
For some reason, that term just annoys the hell out of me.

"At the end of the day" and "brings to the table" got old for me really quick.

We have a "Mongolian barbecue" chain out here called Genghis Grill that abbreviates its name to GG. That's what I always read it as, I recommend you do the same v:

When someone calls Halo a 'generic' first person shooter, It is complete evidence that they never played it or played it for the first level and then went back to something like League of Legends.

Halo is not 'generic' or even 'safe' for that matter. Its one of the few shooters in the market that upon each new game, changes the design and how it flows making it it's own style of shooter. Even then, when people complain about dark gritty greyish shit. They completely ignore the fact that Halo is one of the most colorful shooters around. Tired of iron sights and regenerating health? Halo doesn't have that. Instead it has shields which regenerate, then an actual health bar leading to better and more fair variations of health instead of that one battle that takes all your health away and then you have no med-kit conveniently lying around.
