Spain scored!

A well deserved and beautiful goal.

And Puyol is an amazing player.

And a very good goal for Spain. i was hoping for a German Victory but Spain is dominating this game. Thoroughly.
After destroying Argentina I had high hopes for this game but now I am sure that Spain will be champion.

What happened to Torres?

He is screwing up every chance he gets.

Netherlands vs. Spain in the finals.

I'm probably going to root for Netherlands due to their kickass orange shirts.

But may the best team win!

Commiserations dude, Germany were a fantastic, entertaining team through the tournament.

Spain were definately the better team overall, but I think Germany missed Muller a lot tonight and they were up against some of the best players in the world, 6 players from Barcelona... no shame in a defeat to Spain.

I suppose so, but it's still sad. Oh well, looking forward to the Euro Cup already.

On a lighter note, Paul the octopus was right yet again. If I were a superstitious fool I'd probably have to start worshipping the ugly bastard by now. :p

What in the name of Pele is this Paul the Octopus?

The Euro cup will be great, if Spain play Germany again I'll root for Germany next time. I think we have a good chance of qualifying too (as long as we don't get fucked over by FIFA's pre-historic attitude to replays again)

Paul the Octopus is an octopus that predicts the outcome of football matches. Basically what they do is, they have two plastic boxes with the teams flags painted on each box. They lower the boxes down into his tank. And the teams' box that Paul the Octopus crawls down in will win.

I think he is something like 80% accurate.

That was a surprise. Spain was better, but before the match I wouldn't expect that outcome.

Now I am really curious. What will be the prediction of Germany vs Uruguay now? And who do I bribe to get the best food on the Uruguayan basket?

Dear octopus, what will next week's lottery numbers be?
All hail Paul!

Feel sorry for the Germans, would love to see them play against us in the finally. But Spain clearly was the better team this matched.

This guy:

http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/6241621-paul-octopus-world-cup-prediction-spain-will-be-world-cup-2010-champion

He got all the german games (wins and losses) right. Lottery indeed.

Why did Germany defend all the game? It looked like they awaited to took a goal to attack.
Seems like the team only knew to counter attack when already winning.

Who's psyched?

I love the World Cup, have since I was a little fella watching Gascoine, Schillichi, Maradona and Cascarino...

I'm hoping for a win from Spain or Holland, I enjoy both those teams. I also hope France get knocked out early and Thierri Henri gets booed off the pitch (apologies French Escapists... Irish man here, I still love your country)

So who are the Escapists rooting for?

Feel free to discuss the various games on this thread.

Who do you want to win? Who do you want to make an early exit?

Will the South African team do well? And will thier fans ever stop blowing those feckin' horns?
I guess your wish came true. Congrats!

Amen to that last part. I'll shout it at the top of my lungs again and again: Give us robot referees! Or something of equivalent efficiency that'll prevent disasters of the calibre we've seen at this World Cup.

You really don't know who Paul the Octopus is?
He's an actual octopus. The cephalopod lives in an aquarium here in Germany and has been predicting the outcomes of soccer matches of the German team for years - people actually call him the "octopus oracle".
It works like this: Paul's keepers lower a contraption into his tank that has two transparent plastic boxes on opposing sides; each box has an unlocked lid on top, and there's a clam inside each container (clams are a delicacy for octopi). On front of each box there's a picture of the flag of one of the contending teams, and whichever container Paul chooses to raid for the clam inside is interpreted to be the predicted winner in the upcoming match.
Paul has only been wrong once: In the last EuroCup finale, when he predicted that Germany would win the Cup.

No cheating! Do not mess with the almighty oracle! :p
Doesn't get much better than clam flesh for an octopus, anyway.
