playing oblivion edler scrolls 4 when out of nowhere i get some mad disease like blood lung or vampirism (as awesome as it may be i enjoy my ability to leave the house at any time of day thank you very much) or when you run out of arrows or potions and you have to spend hours and hours figuring out which shop sells them only to find that a single pot is more expensive than all your gear combined .... then i have to get a job in the arena for some cash ....

oblivion is by far ... the biggest flow breaking, ball kicking game i've ever played

**edit** oh and in assasins creed ... why can't you just stay in the bloody animus or what ever it's called you silly arab!! ... or should i say silly scientist .. not inducing a coma on the silly arab ... pfft

The constant checkpoints and guard outpost in Far Cry 2. So damn infuriating.

Or in Halo 3 when im in the zone because ive just shoved a plasma grenade up some covenant arse, itching to kill some more alien scum - then I get a vision of Cortana telling me im special.

Prince of Persia (new one) is fresh in my mind. This whole "open world" and "orb collecting" just stretches the game out and makes it feel like a chore.

One thing that can't be excused, though, is putting auto-save points before unskippable cutscenes that lead to difficult fights, rather than after them at the start of combat. Mass Effect was guilty of this, in that skipping the dialogue was impractical if you wanted to choose your responses.
...are all good examples of why some games are just better off being played on the PC. I constantly got annoyed at the elevators in the game because they just went too damned fast, I never managed to read through all the new bulletins <.<

Oh and quicksave.

All of Assassin's Creed. The uber-fucking stupid sci-fi element completely destroys the suspension of disbelief (you're supposed to be in the Holy Lands).
You're playing it wrong. You're in the future, while the Holy Lands are just a crappy simulation you're watching - in that respect, the suspension of disbelief works preeetty well. Though, the fact that you're technically suspending disbelief twice - once for the protagonist and once for yourself, is kinda cute.

Mirror's edge.

Any combat.
Any standing in a corridor looking for the exit.

The only "flow" in the game is when you are able to RUN, not just walk around trying to find somewhere to go next.

The lifts in Mass Effect I was willing to forgive because they never happened during action sequences, and all they were was a disguised "Loading" bar. And frankly, I liked the elevator chatter better than having to watch a loading bar.

I'm going to go with Otis calling you at infuriating times during Dead Rising. It doesn't help that, when you picked up the phone, the action didn't stop at all. Just you did.

Way to make a hard game even harder Capcom. False difficulty through careless design, but I can't help but love it.

Agreed.. although those elevators were for loading purposes, it was the saddest and most poorly executed part of the game, I wouldn't even mind a black screen fade with some tips or concept art from the game. Listening to the characters jabber about nothing or argue was just irritating and mood-breaking.

I have to agree with the futuristic sci-fi bits in Assassin's Creed and the elevators in Mirror's Edge.
"Yea I just outran 3 snipers and disarmed a SWAT team, now I'll just get to the top of this building and..."
*Lift music*
"What am I doing again?"

Yea basically any game where they try to hide loading screens are annoying, but then again having loading screens breaks came flow too.

Figuring out how the fuck are you supposed to do the next quest in many RPGs, then after 3 hours realising that you got it all wrong and the dude/quest item is in that one house you were sure you've searched already.
Yeah this, with a slice of the anti-climatic experience the OP started the thread with. Nothing breaks flow more than a dramatic moment waiting patiently for you to stop being a retard and find the next plot point.

Assassin's Creed. The ancestor-animus thing has some sharp hooks as a story element. In a game where you fast forward to every fucking moment, it ruined any feel of immersion the game has.

I know right, why can't they, at the very least, cut the timer in half?
