this pretty much sums it up for league of legends...... where a fun game is totally ruined by a small too large amount of player's attitude.

Things I learned from playing LoL

1. If you do any amount of damaged to a player and then that player is killed by any other person than you that is a Kill stolen from you and you may rant about it for until the match ends then report the player

2. If you DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDE for the champion you are playing THEN YOU ARE A NOOB

3. If you die at any point during the opening 5 minutes of the game you are a feeder and will be reported

4. If you do not do every thing some random person (who pings the map about 1000 times a second) says TO THE LETTER you are a NOOB

5. When your losing a game and getting hammered by the other team it is ALWAYS every one else fault

I think DotA and LoL for sure. Angry players left and right. I've seen everything from minor flaming to leaving games just because someone died. That doesn't bother me though, what does bother me is the fact that their own toxic behavior in reaction to other's mistakes is what loses games.

The FGC.

When I was younger, I went to a small arcade in PA. Dad gave me some quarters to go play a few games. I saw a MvC machine and decided to try it out cause I saw Megaman on it. After a match against the CPU(which I lost, first time playing the game) this big guy comes up to me and says I have to play him to continue playing there. I lost. Horribly. Then I was told to leave and don't come back, him and his friends kept making sure I couldn't reenter. I told my dad about it and we just left. Then years later I found out that was common in arcades cause of that arcade mentality or whatever.

Then years later I decided to rent SF4. I played it for awhile then tried it online. Lost again and got a message from my opponent saying I should have my hands broken for losing. Returned the game and never really played another one of those things again.
That's really unfortunate, I'm sorry you had those experiences with the FGC. The arcade days were pretty rough and you could easily get into a fight at an arcade. But today's FGC (and not the online community, the online community for the most part is really tame) is decent. Not good, but not bad. You still get made fun of if you started playing FG's during 2009 or sooner (because of Street Fighter 4). It's definitely a more social community, and there are some really nice people at your local scene, most likely.

The worst part, was I used to be part of it, when I was younger.

The Dawn of War 2 Multiplayer sub forums were the worst... but also the only one I ever got invested in.

I doubt it was anything special. If you play LoL you likely have encountered the same folks. People screaming for Buffs to their fav builds/units/strats or nerfs for the builds/units/strats they can't deal with.

Like the Franchise they bought into (Warhammer 40k), the amount of hostility between the "races" was actually quite fitting:

SM players always stormed other racial sub forums to stem the tide of heresy and to curb stomp xenos (calling for SM nerfs was worthy of exterminatus apparently). No forum was safe... not even the lore forums.

Eldar players kept to their own sub forum and shunned anyone and everyone who tried to cross them. Sometimes they would swoop into other sub-forums, but only if it dealt with Eldar interests (say a SM forum were discussing Eldar strategies)

Chaos players were a mixed bag... that's all I can really say for them.

Orks were all over the place. If they weren't in fighting about what units suck more then others, they were out in other sub forums hooting and hollering for nerfs.

Tyranids were strange. They rarely made contributions, but commonly complained about the Synapse issue. They infested all corners of the forums but only observed and passively contributed. I figured they were like Genestealers, biding their time to strike. However, when any change was made in the balance towards them they would flare up and rage across the forums.

I never got a feel for the Imperial Guard. They were relatively new on the scene by the time I started to drift from the community. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a handful of very vocal members, that publicly executed any "grunts" that dared to talk out of line.

It wasn't all bad though. Pretty tame actually. There were a few good community members. The L2P community was good since it was the only welcoming aspect of the forums for newbies. Though that part of the forum only appeared late into DoW2s cycle, meaning there were lots of embittered players roaming the forums and the game.

Yes. And honestly I've never really had a huge issue. Most of the games I joined no one was bothering with headsets.

Likewise, although when I've played CoD I've usually immediately muted anyone that has a mic (they weren't ever communicating anyway). Although I groaned like a willow tree when the host migrated in one game and the first thing I heard was "Fucking' pussies maaaan." Bleurgh.

On this forum, although a couple of years ago, in a nostalgic game thred, I mentioned that I did not like the Zelda series. I got so many qoutes from people saying I was an idiot, and many PMs with death threats, insults, etc. Luckily, I don't take anything on the internet serious, and also hope every one of those people get raped. Literally. Like...tied down by a fat, hairy guy called Barry and raped. Up the butt. It's even worse when people tried to justify calling me an idiot by saying the games are better than what I preferred....and not backing it up. "Metal Gear Solid 1 is shit compared to Ocariniareana of Time because it's better and Nintendo."

People like that almost make me want to rage. Almost.

Captcha: lol cat

Not really gaming...but I got fucking nailed by Reddit one time when I said I preferred dogs over cats. People were acting as if I had actually killed their cat instead of stating a preference. I really don't like a large portion of the internet.

Pretty much this. I want freedom to experiment and get creative in a multiplayer game, not be called "******" over and over because I didn't pick up Warmogs. And I don't much enjoy having two out of five players give up after fifteen minutes because they aren't comfortable with the momentum of the game.

And eventually I realized I was spending 40 minutes per match playing a game I don't actually enjoy. Thanks LoL community for expediting that.
Tbh, I thought like this too. However, I find that now I only really play with people I know irl, and when I do get a troll I just ignore him/her and report them at the end.

I think because of the style of game and the time commitment needed, it can be way more infuriating to have someone rag on you than in other games.

So much elitism and hatred running that subculture. You want the prime example?

http://www.sirlin.net/articles/playing-to-win-part-1.html

This guy is the prime example of what is wrong with that community. Pure petulance and elitism. LoL is just filled with idiots. The fighting game scene is just full of this...

There is a reason why people like Smash more than the other fighters. It's easy to pick up and the person losing can, gasp, fight back!
I didn't read it all, because, let's face it, by the time I got to the section about scrubs, I already wanted to punch the guy in the face. But as soon as I read:

Mr. I Know How to Have Fun Better Than You said:
...a game becoming less fun because it's poorly designed and you just losing because you're a scrub kind of look alike. You'll have to play some top players and do some soul searching to find out which is which.
I gave up. If I ever have to do 'soul-searching' to find out whether a game is bad or I'm just bad at it, I'll officially abandon gaming as a hobby, because everything will have become too convoluted. That is entirely missing the point of why I play games in the first place.

This guy wrote a book? Really? Everything that is wrong with the gaming community is bound up in those pages right there.

The ME3 community is not too bad, i've only been insulted once, but that guy was horrible to everyone and tried to kick numerous people for no reason at all. Other than him i've had no issues with the ME3 multiplayer.
I've never played the ME3 multiplayer. But given the way the system is designed, I guess I'm not surprised that the community isn't too bad. Plus, the only people playing it are the people who liked Mass Effect 3, after all, which, from what I've read, is part of the small, non-vocal fraction I was talking about. I think most of the vocal assholes were part of the group who cried foul over the ending.

Not that I'm saying everyone who disliked the ending was a vocal asshole, by the way. But I can recall reading some things from a few people who definitely were. And the tidal wave of outcry would have been the perfect environment for them.

actually some of the people i've played with hated the ending but play for the multiplayer, probably because Bioware keeps releasing new maps and stuff at no charge and the characters are fairly balanced, but for the most part you are right

Inb4 LoL... Dammit.

It's only that bad in solo queue or duo queue in Ranked. If you're lucky enough to have a reliable 5 man team it becomes 100% more awesome. Except when one of your premade team (not naming any names) is this feeding machine half the time.

Me and Rookie have a 5 man team with a few subs. +1 Padwolf of course. The 5 man Ranked games are a load of fun. I like the counterpicking and stuff.

I will always remember the one time when this one Nidalee was hardcore raging at our Karthus for feeding, I said something like "raging doesn't help anyone" and she actually backed down and apologised. Mind. Blown. I must have triggered a sudden realisation within her or something, I was expecting nothing more than more rage.

I hate when people can't admit they made mistakes. I got our Rengar fed as hell in a 2v1 lane with my HECARIM ganks, he was 11/3 by the 30 minute surrender. He was against Vlad/Xin. They kept trying to fight me... The guy with 3 seperate disengages and their focus was terrible. They don't get that Red Buff makes a 2v2 more of a 2v2 and a half.

They were underleveled as fuck (I had both jungles) and they were still all "oh it's only a 2v2, we got this!" *melted by Rengar* over and over again. Then "bg report my team" from the both of them. Dafaq?!

By the way, I feel like Season 3 has made HECARIM so much more awesome. He's less squishy and has noticeably more damage with the flat AD buff and base armour (health?) buff and actually doesn't risk dying to second wraiths with the machete. 4 HECARIM wins in a row. When did I get good with him I wonder? I don't even stack Black Cleavers! Shocking, I know. Welcome to Season 3, the League of Cleavers.

Wonder if the Sejuani buff elevated her from Garbage Tier even a little bit? Funny thing is on paper she looks awesome. In practise... Ehhhh sub-par in every way possible. Her ult is really good but that's about it.
I wanted to say LoL too...

But I came into it from Heroes of Newerth, so really, in comparison to that hardcore elitist-douche crowd, the LoL community, while clearly immature, is nowhere near as bad.

I keep hearing that HoN's community is somehow worse than LoL's can you elaborate? Trying to think how, do the devs support the game much? Are the gameplay mechanics more technical and therefore clearly automatically superior in the eyes of some elitist idiots?

No wait, that's DOTA 2. My mistake

[sub]Whaaaayyyyy burn![/sub]

Joking aside any community that manages to be more unfriendly than LoL needs an award of some kind.

Oh and looks like the League of Cleavers has been cut short by Riot actually nerfing the broken stuff correctly! Along with more Rengar nerfs... Again. I don't even play Rengar and I feel sorry for anyone who plays him, he was dreadfully OP but that first nerf curbed it a bit the second one made him totally balanced then this one is unneeded and frankly bizarre.

Apparently Diana and Zyra needed the nerf hammer to slam down on them as well. *sigh* baby steps Riot, baby steps.

The whole community is shocking and quite frankly an embrassment to gaming.
If it's not some "clan" camping and hording all the vehicles, it's the general arrogance from the players.
They all think it's the best mod in the history of the universe, all act like 12 year old's and generally just ruined my experience of a potentially good mod. Additional to this, a lot of them are gaming elitists who believe that unless you played the alpha from day 1, your not entitled to play. Tbh, they can keep their terrible game. Nothing about it made me go "wow"!

Also Just Cause 2 Multiplayer...

Same sort of thing, you try to organise cool stuff and people just generally ruin the fun.
Some people were organizing a mass skydive off the Mile High Club for example, and people just kept camping on the spawn point for it or killing people as they were about to jump -Why ruin someone else's fun?

Oddly enough, I think I understand what this Sirlin guy is trying to say. It's just that he's horribly pretentious and elitist about it. To me, this guy is a clear Spike.

To explain myself: The creators of Magic: The Gathering have divided their player base into three archetypes. Spike, Timmy and Johnny.
Spike plays to win.
Timmy plays to experience something. The scrubs in the article.
Johhny plays to express something. In fighting games this is probably the guy who likes to take a joke character and still win with it.
MaRo says it better here [http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/mr11b]

In short: In fighting games (and Magic, too) Spike thinks Timmy isn't a "real" player and vice versa. They both are, but it doesn't end well if they play against each other.

OT:
Dawn of war: Dark Crusade multiplayer. I tried it once and found a 2 vs 2 "noob" multiplayer match. I seriously doubt the opponents of being new. They chose a map I believe was called "The Breach". One was playing Imperial Guard and the other Necrons (I chose Tau, the other guy Orks I believe). The map had only a single entrance point to enemy side and the Guard player immediately started closing it off with as many squads and turrets as he could. While we tried (unsuccesfully) to breach it the Necron player started upgrading his base. The Necron base is special. When it is fully upgraded it can move and teleport. So it teleported across the part of the map that could't be crossed by the rest straight into my base, unloaded everything and started destroying my buildings. I couldn't retaliate and died in short order.

What bothers me is not that they did this, it was probably still winnable if you knew how, but that they masqueraded it behind a newbie match, so nobody they played against would know how to counter it. From stories I heard this is most of the Dawn of War community.

Reading through these posts, I've reaffirmed my idea that any sort of Dota game is just not for me. I'm glad you dota sorts all are having fun (though your definition of fun is odd to say the least), but no. Just no.

Otherwise, I've also noticed that I've had some amazing luck playing shooters on Xbox Live. Halo, CoD, even Gears I just haven't run into any really horrid players. Most of the players I've run into were just there to play, and didn't really get too caught up in any drama or griefing.

The one bad experience I had was Street Figther, but that really isn't a game where I'm even remotely competent - so no loss there.

My most recent experience with an awful player was Team Fortress 2 during the Halloween event. I stick to MvM, but tried out the Merasmus event. Played quite a few, but there was this one guy....ugh. Silver lining, I did learn how to mute players in TF2. Anyway, that's about the worst I've seen.

Some of the best experiences were on the Grumpy Gamers servers for the first Modern Warfare. Really great bunch of guys.

People who blindly complain about stuff that is supposedly ruining the industry or something like that.

The biggest example begin "Brown Military Shooters". I mean, it cant really be that hard to simply... you know... ignore them... right. But no, instead lets complain about those ALL THE FUCKING DAY and while we are at it lets insult ALL the people who play it and their mothers because they are obviously inferior human begins for even thinking about enjoining (Spelling?) a damn VIDEOGAME.

Seriously. I would rather be with one of those supposedly 13 years old that habit in COD and those games (That I barely have met like 3 of them in all of my gameplay time- Again, people overexagerating) than with someone like that. After all, they are also like 13 years old that complain about everything all. the. fucking. time.

As you may have guessed, this does not apply to a game but rather pretty much the whole interent gaming community... well the louder ones anyway.

I don't quite get why that's an essay ride.

And as for EVE online, I got my battlecruiser ganked at the jump gate first time I tried to venture into an ultra lowsec system being camped by goonswarm.
