Had been quite sick due to asthma, being unadjusted to lack of air at my families holiday house in the mountains, and a bad cold. Woke up coughing a lot, then blacked out, woke up again coughed, blacked out again, etc. When I finally managed to get up I noticed that my blanket was solid near the corner. Turns out I had been in bed for most of the day and had been coughing up a lot of phlegm.

Much less gross: My mum poring cold tea on my face which had been next to my bed for 2 weeks. Not a fun time, and I still have a stain on my pillow case form it.

Used to wake up with a cat on my face every day.

Choking on fur is not a pleasant way to wake up.

When I was in middle school, I had a major project due that I hadn't finished. I was uber-stressed out about it, and the night before I dreamed very clearly that we ended up with a snow day and I was able to finish the project. Woke up, and it was bright and sunny.

One time I woke up from a nap when my mom called my name ran out the door only to cut my foot in two places (the floor in the hallway is like less than an inch taller than the floor in my bedroom)

? I am in a wonderful half sleepless doze,
? Mum then wakes me up,
? Her: John...?
? Me: Whaaaat?
? Her: Michael Jackson has died
? Me: Ok then
? And I went back to sleep.

It takes alot to shake me from my bed, that is the only thing I can really remember and it is quite funny when I think back on it.

I had a bunk bed that was like a foot from the roof of my room, I woke up hearing screaming and a bat flying right past my face, then another, then another. it turned out to be just the same bat flying around my room over and over but scared the hell out of me

Hello Escapist, quick question for you:

What are some of the worst things that have happened to you seconds after opening your eyes in the morning?

A few days ago I woke up with a big wolf spider on my cheek. That freaked me out royally.

Back when I was at summer camp, I once woke up seconds before falling off of the top bunk. I was conscious of the slipping at the last second.

One time I woke up and hit my head on the top shelf piece of my bed.

...

Your turn!
I often can't feel my arms when I sleep on them.
First thing in the morning I feel "someone elses hand" touching me and i freak out before realising it's my own, just with restricted nerve endings.

Another thing I often do in the middle of the night for no reason is punch the wall or kick it. Problem is my bed had a metal railing around it all (due to it being a loft) so it hurts like hell and wakes me up pretty fast.

And last 2 days I woke up and threw up

Next time that happens, calm down and try floating towards the cieling. Sometimes that means you're having an OBE.

I thought this thread was about weird places I've woken up in. That can be startling; especially for those few seconds while you're trying to figure out why you're not at home.
One time while waiting for a 3 am train, my party and I slept on mail carts in a Swiss train station. We weren't the only ones either. A lot of people were doing that. It was like the postal service put them there for that purpose. Waking up there was startling.

Same thing happened to me..didn't really care at the time.

I've woken up several times with my dog on my head, but it wasn't that bad really.
The worst wake-up ever is when the police rang by doorbell, and I was in my bed naked, with a massive headache and the only memory I had from last night was that I met with a couple of friends and we started drinking in a pub.

My word, I get this an awful lot! I hate it when it happens, because I always freak out and start to panic, desperatly trying to kick my legs or move my arms, but they... just... won't... work!!! Luckely it never last longer then a minute...

Might have to find the warranty for my brain if it keeps failing like this ;)

I'm still in my Halloween costume, that sucks. And it's all ripped up. nice.
Why are there grass stains on my shirt? I don't remember going outside.
Wow my elbow hurts -- and its bleeding?!
THERE IS BLOOD ALL OVER MY BED?!

"Oh hi mom. You're outside? Oh yeah it's parents weekend. No I didn't forget mom. No, I'm fine. I'll be right down."

I had forgot to close the front door properly before going to bed. When I woke up the front door was open and all the pets (5 cats and dog) had ran off. Good thing nothing was stolen.

When I was a teenager, I once woke up from a nightmare with my fist through the mirror in my headboard... spent the day washing blood out of my sheets. I've never slept in another bed with a headboard.
