I don't see Vaan as the main character. He has almost nothing to do with anything that happens in FF XII. The main characters for me are Ashe and Baltier. Vaan is just a random kid who takes the role of the hero.
Him and Penelo. I've actually been playing the game for the past few days after the failure of my 360. The only reason he's really in my main party is because I have to see him so much that I feel like I'm expected to use him so often.

I've never actually played the game, but until I downloaded the demo, I thought that Yuri, the protagonist in Tales of Vesperia, was a woman. I know it's not unusual for RPG males to look like females, but this one just blew me away.

Isn't "yuri" a kind of Japanese porn, also? Sheesh.
That WASN'T a woman?

What has the world come to.

Marcus Fenix from Gears of War 1. (I haven't played 2 yet).

AS far as I can tell the plot of gears of war 1 is that humanity invaded a foreign planet and stole all their natural resources. When we learned it was inhabited we killed all the locust. (Notice the really bad parallels here.)Marcus seems way to happy to kill anything that isn't human including civilians. None of the characters call him on it.
I suggest going back, putting Gears 1 in, and ;letting the intro video play. It shows Sera, which is and always has been a human planet, and one day the Locust burst up out of the ground and destroy everying (also known as "E Day"). No one knows at this point why the Locust are doing it, but presumably that will be revealed in Gears 3. So humans killed the Locust in self defense.
And what else is there for him to kill but Locust and civilians? Other COGs? I'm beginning to wonder if you played the game or you're just a troll.
I vaguely remember the intro video, (I'll check it in a minute) but I did play the game to completion. Since the locust live underground I assumed that meant the locust were there first and panicked when they realized/thought they were being invaded. Marcus drops a bomb that destroyed all the locusts in the tunnels with making any reference whether there were civilians down there. Since he assumed that would kill all the locusts that meant he thought it would kill all the civilians to. I don't remember anyone making a reference about attempting to communicate with locust since it's unlikely that all the locust or one the same side. He and some of the other COGs seemed way too happy to kill their enemies even saying "I could do this all day!" By comparison Niko Bellic says "you miserable wretches" or "you should have found another way to live."
Marcus shows no other emotion the determination to kill as many enemies as possible no matter who gets hurt. Instead of lighting a tree branch on fire during that annoying night level he blows up kerosene tanks leaving the humans without power. That's the only time someone calls him on anything he does.

Maybe I'm seeing parallel's that aren't there because I'm so against the Iraq war but I can't how all references to that glowing underground power source doesn't mean anything.

while people hate Nico Bellic, i cant because he likely would be a distant realative of mine IRL

wrong, if you read the backstory, Sera is the Gears of War universe equivalent of earth. The Locust one day just pop up and Exterminate a huge number of men. the thing about marcus is he is a far superior main charicter to pretty much any other shooter's main charicter Excluding Gorden Freeman.
I had to read the back story on Wikipedia because I got GOW used. Since the the locusts are underground and humanity didn't notice them, I assumed that meant the locust were there first unless they teleported there without anyone knowing. I don't think Sera is Earth. there is too much brown, weird clouds, killer birds, and radioactive oil. Presumably humans colonized it. They never explained why the humans didn't just leave since sera is such a hellhole anyway.

He wasn't really the main character.

The entire point of the game (character wise) by the time you got your last party member was for none of them to be the 'main'. That's why you aren't forced to keep him out all the time. He really is just another person who happens to be the one you used first.

As for a main character from final fantasy to hate...Tidus. I liked X because Auron saved it but overall Tidus made me wish the game had no voice overs.

Cloud from ff7, yeah that's right useless character
may the war begin
I would think that there would be no Final Fantasy 7 without him. Most of the story was pushed on by the fact that he was a magnet for Sephiroth. They'd have never found Sephiroth otherwise.

Plus he was the best clone (which they mistakenly thought was a defunct one). I'll admit he didn't have lots of character, but I haven't really played an RPG with really deep characters.

I liked Balthier in 12, he wasn't deep but he had that smug attitude that reminded me of myself if I was actually cool or had any sort of charisma ;).

All you people saying FFXII clearly never played FFVIII. Squall made Vaan look like Odysseus.
Yeah. I had trouble connecting with Squall because he tried too hard to be emo. Renoa (or whatever her name was) was basically having sex with his leg at any given chance and he still was all emo.

There are people who end up killing themselves trying to get women to act as horny around them as the ladies did around him. Which made it difficult to understand his problems. Because I know very few problems that can't be at least lessened by a good ole sexy time.

I could probably name more places than I have digits that are absolutely terrible and extremely difficult to live in that people still populate quite readily.

Humans are stupid. They'd live in a big mountain of turds if you gave them the chance.

You ever feel like not one of the options in response on that game would be said by your character? That's why I rarely did any dialogues because not one response fit my character. Plus honestly I would not try as hard as he did to find my dad. I love my dad, but once you ditch my ass in a place with people you know are unstable and have killed before I am given very little incentive to find you again (he knew that the leader of the vault was unstable and dangerous).

If you play both 1 and 2 you find out the locust were always there and are fighting 2 wars. One with the humans above and one with the Imulsion which is actually a living thing and is killing the locust. Thats why they are trying to run to the surface. They are trying to survive and we are in there way.

Vaan from Final Fantasy 12. I was like: so this is what it has come to eh Square Enix?

You're going the androgynous route... you're going to go all areas before you actually make a non-blonde main. Bad enough I had to read Shakespearian English on top of that but to look at this prick from start to finish just made my eyes hurt.

I can deal with him being androgynous. What I can't stand is his painted-on abs and the fact that a wet piece of parchment has more personality. Seriously.

The guys brother wore thigh high boots, a boob tube, and a mini skirt. Then did the Cloud style ' nothing is what it seems coma. Oh i'm such a loser QQ' thing. A dow eyed family of messed up cross dressers.

But personally, i thought Link in a simular fashion to Freeman in Lame beyond comparison.

I'm going to go for Cloud, closely followed by Link. Link is beyond dull, and Cloud irritates me no end, with his lameness and his moping about and whining.
