Another vote for Niko Bellic. Bland guy, accent like he's trying to hard, no personality, speaks Serbian now and then unrealistically just to remind you that he's European (and Russian-Slavic people are popular right now), and a pretty generic revenge back story.

Oh god, I could list loads. I don't have ONE. Here goes:

Gordon Freeman - Half Life
Master Cheif - Halo
Cloud - FFVII
Tidus - FFXX
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider
Mario - Umm...well...Mario
The Protagonist from Fable I

I could go on. But I'll give some qualifying statements now.

Freeman - He is just unlikable. I understand what was said in the earlier thread that he is you, but still. Maybe if he had more emotions than a wet flanel I would warm to him.

Master Cheif - Ugh...just ugh...I've never liked the games, and he is the main reason why. Everyone is always singing his praises. But for me, he's a dick.

Cloud - The usual FF main character with a stupid hairdo and I believe he was a mute as well? (Clarification please. Ages since I played it.) Either way, I couldnt like him, cause he also had a lack of emotions.

Tidus - As said before, his voice is annoying and he is an egotistical twat.

Lara Croft - See any Yahtzee ZP review for Tomb Raider.

Mario - I liked the games. They are fun and classics. But Mario is a little weird. A PLUMBER is hired to save a princess from a spikey turtle thing? Just no. Better characterization here and I could like him more. But yeah, not going to happen. Ill survive :)

Fable I's hero - He has no emotions. The closest we see to emotions is him falling to his knees when at his mum's grave and some weird looped crying. It's the Gordon Freeman arguement again, I know, but still. They could of made him react more.

Thats the end of my rant :) Hope you enjoyed it.

Whatever the guy from lost planet was... he had a name, I'm sure, and it probably sucked as much as the rest of the game. "we are a big corporation and here to help" "now I am killing you because I have unfounded suspicions" "oh no giant space bugs".

Oh, and the entire starting cast of GTA4
"I am angry russian guy" x 10

Master Chief.
That's right, I went there. Come and get me fanboys!
/hug

master chief is about as likable as a brick, because a brick is given as much character as MC, except that the brick is manlier (how the fuck can MC shrug off orbital jumps, but gets destroyed by small arms fire?)

although i do say the Diablo 1 warrior is the worst because he becomes a boss in the second game

the thing i hate about link is although he probably is the best charicter in the Nintendo Flagship, they never let us see what the hell he says, there is no way he is mute, and he has multiple girlfriends at any given time (jesus, can he ever get to banging Zelda so they can both die.)

Lieutenant Sarah Kerrigan, The Queen of Blades. Matriarch of the Zerg Swarm, and Queen ***** of the Universe. goes from sad little girl to heartless murderer that makes the scientists on the Manhattan project look like wimps

Vaan from Final Fantasy 12. I was like: so this is what it has come to eh Square Enix?

You're going the androgynous route... you're going to go all areas before you actually make a non-blonde main. Bad enough I had to read Shakespearian English on top of that but to look at this prick from start to finish just made my eyes hurt.
I can deal with him being androgynous. What I can't stand is his painted-on abs and the fact that a wet piece of parchment has more personality. Seriously.
This. Nothing wrong with androgyny. We have enough muscle-bound steroid jocks being crapped out all the time in the West. The East can balance it out.

Faith from Mirrors Edge.
She just seems really unlikeable, and the voice-acting for her just grated on my nerves.
Hell, the only thing in that game that didn't aggravate me was the running.
Stupid main character, stupid side characters, stupid story. They should have just made the game a bunch of unconnected missions which were just "Run from point A to point B, occasionally fighting guards and running away from helicopters. No, we're not going to explain why you're doing this, just have fun."
Basically just the time-trial mode with twice as many missons.

Also, Lara Croft.
We get it, she has big tits.

I'm going to go for Cloud, closely followed by Link. Link is beyond dull, and Cloud irritates me no end, with his lameness and his moping about and whining.
Link has little character because you're suppose to project yourself onto him, as with most silent protagonists Nintendo likes to put out. Samus is another.
Not that I'm expecting to change how you feel or anything, but just putting that out there.

Master Chief.

I don't care how much of a pretty cool guy he is or how many aliens he's blown up. He's still a six-foot-something space marine with a gun.
I just played Halo 3 last night with a friend for a bunch of hours and I agree. He's just WAY too generic for a lead role, I think he would have worked better as a mute a la the one free man and oh, I don't know, HAVE A FACE!!!! And like someone said, characters work well as mutes, for example, I have no idea if master chief had dialog cause my friend and I were doing all the dialogue for the game making fun of everything.

Gordon Freeman. Yes I said it. Now quote me and tell me how wrong I am.
Why? He's a terrible character. A camera floating behind a crowbar.

But the game was still awesome. :p

Niko Bellic, I could never identify with him and for gameplay purposes he could have been a soulless robot.
Apparently the reason no one could relate to him was because no one really knows the struggles of an immigrant. I heard that from somewhere but I may very well be wrong.

Shion Uzuki from Xenosaga. I never missed a chance to kick her to the bench and use characters I didn't actively hate.

The male John Shepard, the voice actor sounds like a fucking monotone emotionless robot.

On the other hand, The female Shepard was wonderful and the voice actor was masterful.
